Hottest Language Learning Tip

hottest language learning tip

write a diary

literally

just write a diary, it has helped me sooo much and i dare say it has been the most developing thing i’ve done while learning french, nothing else compares

1. you’re exposed to the language daily

2. you quickly see which words are missing from your vocabulary

3. you learn to write about the things you think about a lot

4. learning to actually think in your target language

5. having to look up words and when reading the entry back a couple of days later you can’t even remember which words you didn’t know

6. going back to the earlier entries and seeing all the mistakes and knowing how much better you’ve become

7. when you’ve been writing for a few months and your target language becomes a natural way for expressing yourself

8. when you’ve been writing for a few months and you start seeing the diary writing as a way of self-expression and stressrelief, and the language learning aspect becomes natural and secondary

9. filling out a whole book using only your target language and physically seeing how much you’ve accomplished

Well. Here’s A Big’un. I Finally Had Time To Work On Printables So I Decided To Make A New Version

Well. Here’s a big’un. I finally had time to work on printables so I decided to make a new version of the exam pack printable. Hopefully this helps with exam season.

Includes:

IFTTT - Write down rewards for accomplishing important tasks! Motivate yourself!

Exam Schedule - Keep track of all the deets for up to 18 exams! (dear lord, I hope you never have to suffer such a fate…but in case you do, I added a couple rows, just for you). Check off your exams as you take them.

Monthly Calendar - Keep track of important exam dates. Plan up to 6 months in advance, like the extremely prepared student you are/aspire to be. Comes w/ legend if you like color coding ‘n stuff . :D

Major Topics - Keep track of topics covered on your exam(s).

Scoreboard + Graph - Keep track of your exam scores as you take your exams. Visualize your progress. There are enough graphs to record exam scores in 6 subjects.

D-Day Calendar - Figure out your study schedule in the context of how many days you have left until your exam. Each page has 36 days.

Weekly Calendar - Keep on top of your study schedule; you can plan out your days or just write about your study plan for the week. Also serves as daily planner.

Self-Evaluation - See how you did on certain topics on an exam. Helpful when you’re reviewing past exams or mock exam results.

Click HERE to download the printable (PDF).

For suggestions on how to use the printable, click HERE.

Good luck on your studies, everyone!!

Postscript: Unfortunately, this printable isn’t available for editing. Because of this, I’m opening up my ask box for feedback regarding some small edits you might like me to make on this printable. This means that at a later date, I will aggregate your feedback and try to make an even newer (possibly better) version of this printable! So all’s well that ends well.

Extended Essay Tips! (from an IB student with senioritis)

I finished my EE last week. Here are some tips that I wish I would’ve had while I was writing mine!

1. Pick a topic you’re genuinely interested in!!!

This is IMPORTANT because you’ll be doing a lot of research and writing about this topic. If you hate what you’re writing about, it will be that much harder to motivate yourself to actually get stuff done.

2. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR SOURCES

It might be annoying in the short term, but it will be so helpful in the long term when you don’t have to sort through 30 different journals and books to find one specific fact to cite.

3. Make a quality outline!

Outlining should really be the hardest part if you’re doing it right. It is so much easier to move things around and work on structure with an outline than a completed paper. Also, a thorough outline will make compiling the rest of the paper so much easier.

4. Try to start earlier rather than later

This is an obvious one, but really. Senioritis is real. SO REAL. By march of senior year you pretty much know where you’re going next (at least in the states) and doing high school stuff is really difficult motivation-wise. Start your EE early so you can have it done by the time all of your motivation to succeed leaves you.

5. 4,000 words is way less than you think it is

It sounds like a lot, but it really only leaves space for either deep explanation of one VERY specific topic, or a surface-scratch explanation of a huge topic. This is IB, so they want deep. Pick a specific topic.

6. Online libraries and databases are your friend

Google scholar?? GOOD SHIT FOR THIS PAPER. I have no idea how anybody wrote the extended essay before the internet.

7. Chunk it.

Don’t try to write this paper all at once. Break it up into small tasks and work through it that way. Not only will it make the whole process seem more manageable, but your writing will sound less frantic and your ideas will be more coherent.

8. Enjoy it!!!

We have such a cool opportunity to explore a topic that interests us and write about it! Take advantage of this! Enjoy learning about a topic that’s is fascinating for you! Take pride in your writing! Acknowledge this opportunity that so few high schoolers get to have and appreciate it. The EE can be overwhelming and stressful and scary, but at the end of the day it’s so cool and has been a super positive experience for me :)

I wish everyone would wake up and realize that your idealized self is simply your current self but with drive. The person you want to be is you if you put in the work! Like, life is ultimately up to us and we can change ourselves whenever we want! Make plans to do better for yourself, speak it into fruition, and work for it.

🏡Working At Home🏡

🏡Working at home🏡

Today most schools and universities are closed, most of us are now working from our place and it can be difficult to meet the conditions to study. So here's some tips to help you study from home!

1. Don't stay in pajamas all day!

I know this might be tempting but this doesn't help to wake up your brain. Putting on clothes you wear outside can trick your brain into a more productive mode.

2. Keep a schedule

Quarantine is a good time to rest so you don't need to spend as much time working as you are in school ; but you should keep a schedule, with fixed hours to work. For example from 10am to 12am and from 2pm to 5pm. In order to stay focus, you can use the Forest app and activate the Reminder function.

3. Find yourself a working space

Staying in bed is really tempting, I agree with you but it might not help to be productive. I took too much nap while working in bed so never again! Try to find a different space to work, in order to separate your resting space from your work place. A trick that might help you : use some decoration to build your own working space. Adding some plants on your table and a good lighting on your table when your work can help.

4. Create a productive atmosphere

The perk of working from home is that you can get more comfortable than in office or school. So be free to pour yourself some tea or coffee. To avoid distraction, I tend to play lo-fi playlist so I'm not distracted by every noise I hear (aka the cries of my neighbor's babies).

5. Keep track of your task

A lot of teachers are giving assignments with different due dates, WRITE THEM DOWN! If you have one, write them on your bullet journal and amake to-do list with all the tasks and divide your assignments steps by steps so you can cross things off your list more often!

6. Try new hobbies

Always wanted to do something new but never had time do to so? Well... Now you have all the time in the world! Make this quarantine less boring by trying new things (that you can do at home, of course)! Wanna declutter your home? Lear how to cook? Doing exercices at home? You have all the time needed!

And of course, take care of yourself and your relatives!
