Shyama Golden (Sri Lankan-American, 1983) - The Passage (2022)
[Image description: apparently a social media post from user God, reading Thou shalt not deny gender is a spectrum while claiming to be manlier.
If you can rank it, it's not a binary. /End image description.]
When Dulcie covers Eddie's entire face with her hand and Eddie is so Thwarted. It's good bc normally Dulcie is the Thwarted one
These two fight each other so cute.
DEADLOCH Madeleine Sami and Kate Box as Eddie Redcliffe and Dulcie Collins
I was walking down a sidewalk once in Berlin and this dazzling butterfly wandered over and landed on my sleeve. It was so beautiful and I just stood there looking at it for a few seconds. Then there was another human walking toward me, going the opposite way down the same sidewalk, and I didn't speak hardly any German at that point but I just sort of looked at them visibly and they noticed and looked at me, and then noticed the butterfly, and we stood there both admiring it for a minute, until it flew off. Then I tried to say something to them in German but it came out in French by mistake and they frowned and said something back in Mandarin and then we both just stared at each other in bafflement for a second and then both laughed and walked away in our opposite directions But it had been such a cute interaction that as we walked away from each other we both, in the same moment, glanced back over our shoulders at each other, and saw each other looking back, and made eye contact twenty feet apart, and both giggled self-consciously, and it was so good This was years ago but it still gives me life
Sometimes I just really like us
do you ever see someone in some quiet intimate moment and suddenly love them so desperately you feel like you’re dying
#like when they pass a mirror and make a face and mess with their hair a little #or when you hear someone singing in their car with the windows rolled up as they drive past you #i don’t know how to express this i just. people are people and it makes me so sad and filled up sometimes
A slow-build romance leading to polyamory. Rated explicit. Long (84,000 words). Eddie POV. Complete.
Eddie/Dulcie are definitely the main pairing. Eddie/Cath are shown making out once. There is also one Dulcie/Eddie/Cath sex scene at the end but otherwise no Dulcie/Cath or Eddie/Cath is shown (though both are mentioned).
Canon-compliant. Set after the end of the series proper, starting right after Ray’s death. Includes the canon epilogue scene (in which Eddie and Dulcie visit Holly) and then continues after that.
I didn’t like Cath in canon but I think she could get her shit together and be a better person and a better partner, and I’ve leaned into that very hard, while doing my best to also keep her in character.
Important note: the first scene is rough but things don’t stay that way. This is a happy fic overall, with a very happy ending.
See Chapter 1 for content warning.
This was an utter delight to write. Please read and enjoy. I'd love to hear in comments how you respond to it -- all feedback is great, including critique. <3
Lastly, thank you SO MUCH to my absolutely amazing beta, @ratherembarrassing, for help with so many important dialect and character notes. This fic would be such a hot mess without you, and I'm so so grateful for your time and your meticulous attention to detail. <3 <3 <3
This way to the fic :-D
Thinking about the way Eddie stops in their tracks and looks down at their bare toes just for a second there. I love this gorgeous little oddball so much I'm tall and sometimes when someone I love is shorter than me it feels like a present. Like, how lucky, that what I most want to do is scoop you up and squeeze you, and you're the perfect size to be scooped up and squeezed!
Fannish things, writing, other stuff. Often NSFW. My pronouns are they/them.
