i like making ocs and giving them their own names. i can pull an original name like jean pierre kon, and make it jean pierre konSIDERATION. all the kons have names likethese. konsistence.

BUT there are also konstantine and konrad.

also there's other guys like melissa alchemelli (melissa taylor) and ecotta (scottie cañizares).

also theres hinnosen and gil t. (tine). i thought yous hould know that.

theres also soku dorian or emmet alexander or sayon harikone or kain harikone or elisa dorian or ezekiel hernandez.

AND herschal ron "ronnie" insertlastname and marjorie "marc" insertlastname. i love those guys.

...there are also "ramirez laica" who was just made to be alayton copy but ended up more of a lautrec. his name is pretty simple and yet STUPID so you know he wasnt made w the best of intentions. and his loyal student luc von symphonia. UH HUH.

sometimes i forget luc is not related to natalie symphonia, the robot daughter of a mad scientist guy named maxie (massimo maximiliano maximillien).

About ramírez, in his same arc, there's a guy named finnick correto. but whom was later renamed as derek delalei. just like en'mi, his name is a play in dere(cho) de la ley, or right of the law. i think its pretty obvious who he was named after and why is he in the ramirez arc. threres also clarisse laica and ramón laica but i didnt wsnat to overcomplicate okay sorry.

but we could never forget valencia rosario's friends. his name is pretty neutral yeah spanish man uh huh. hes mute and is in a group of other disabled people. there's a mediator, who's a very versatile character, named aka. just aka. not akari, not alisson kon. aka. aka aka. i have used her as for to replace layton in fics, to replace red from pokemon in fics, to replace anyone that can fit her mediator and neutral self. she is more of a tool than she is a character. did i mention shes lesbia

So, can I ask whether this game has any kind of following, or people wrote it off as “eh, another Professor Layton ripoff” even though it’s more like Boktai with Mon game elements and only then the occasional puzzle and it’s such a huge nerdy loveletter to Paris and its flowerful history? Also, the wonderful wonderful voicework. And the assholish protagonist. And the Phantom of the Opera. And…

It didn’t have a decent TVTropes page until I built one, which is usually a good indicator that it needs more people to know about it.

TLDR: if you own a 3DS, you better have a very good reason for you to not have played Doctor Lautrec. Like “I only bought it to play Pokemon and I own no other games” good.

So… I realized a lot of people think that Lautrec is probably somewhere in his 40’s like Layton and Descole.

His assistant Sophie is 22.

They are the same age as Alfendi Layton and Lucy Baker.

The subject of Professor Layton “copycats” came up in conversation last night, so I gathered up the three examples that I know of off the top of my head.

May’s Mysteries and Doctor Lautrec are the two that most clearly borrow from Layton’s presentation, gameplay, and overall tone, setting, and theme.  Rhythm Thief is the most loosely connected of these three, with rhythm minigames!  And yet, it always struck me as very “Laytonesque.”

Rook and Bishop: Rip-offs of a rip-off?

In 2011, a Nintendo DS game called Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights was released.

With its puzzles, animated cutscenes and gameplay it was clearly inspired by the popular Layton series.

The protagonist even bares a striking resemblance to Layton himself.

In the game, there are two minor characters named Paul and Jean. Besides their names, they aren't based on any current Layton characters.

They are the stereotypical dumb henchmen to the big boss. One is tall and thin, the other is short and fat. They wear matching uniforms and sunglasses. They show up occasionally to be a slight nuisance and provide comic relief. At the end of the game they leave the Boss to become better people.

Fast forward two years later and the latest game in the Layton series comes out.

Lots of new characters are introduced but two are very close to my heart.

Rook and Bishop. The stereotypical dumb henchmen to the big boss. One is tall and thin, the other is short and fat. They wear matching uniforms and sunglasses. They show up occasionally to be a slight nuisance and provide comic relief. At the end of the game they leave the Boss to become better people

It's probably a coincidence, but it's funny to imagine that Level 5 were so mad that someone ripped off their game that they decided to steal their characters to see how they like it.

And naturally, Level 5 improved the characters.

Paul and Jean were fired by their boss for their incompetence, which led to them helping the protagonists and becoming better people.

Rook and Bishop on the other hand made the decision to quit by themselves. They never acted out of spite or because they had nowhere else to go, they wanted to be good people. This makes them more compelling characters.

(Also Rook and Bishop don't flirt with the female characters and make them uncomfortable. They just have gay little conversations with one another.)

In conclusion: Don't rip off Level 5. They will take your characters and make them better.

imso convinced my fandoms are connected what do you mean mother, pokemon, professor layton , ace attorney and rhythm thief are distanced they cant be that far there is a thin line between them that my adhd brain probably can't distinguish that swhy she likes them all ii believe
