Got To.

Got to.

It's been awhile since I've updated, but I'm really looking forward to this year and everything I have lined up to work on. I'll be participating in some very exciting (to me and my nerd self at least) exhibitions soon, and I have a compilation zine in the works which I'm psyched to get started on/spreading the word about as well.

Stay tuned all!

Super Villains Show

Super Villains Show

November 25 was the opening for the Super Villains show at Rotopol Press in Germany and they've put up a bunch of great pictures. Looking at the space and all the excellent work made me really wish I could have been there. And it looks like the show really was full of excellent work. You can check out a photostream of the opening on Rotopol's site here, as well as photos of each piece in the show here. In the mean time I just wanted to share a few pieces that really impressed me. It's super humbling to be included among this talent you guys. Thanks again, Rotopol!

My man Jimmy is putting together a zine called Bits & Multiples of 8 for video game fan art from the original Nintendo system to Nintendo 64 (Sega + Playstation included), and he's just put out a call for submissions on his blog! The cover features characters from tons of games (see if you can name them all) and will make a lovely 4-color screen print on a lovely zine full of lovely work. Check it out! It'll be rad.

The Cosmic Shroud

The Cosmic Shroud

This is The Cosmic Shroud. I created him for Rotopol's Super Villains exhibit opening November 25 in Kassel, Germany. There are tons of really excellent artists taking part including Hellen Jo and Victo Ngai. This was a lot of fun, and I was so happy to be invited to take part. I wish I could be at the opening! Check out Rotopol's site here for more details.

Here's my little backstory on the Shroud (warning - real nerdy):

The Cosmic Shroud burst from the shadow of a lunar eclipse, and roams the galaxy compressing matter into singularities for absorption. It hunts anything from space-traveling heroes, to satellites and space stations. It must encircle its victims with its shroud in order to compress them however, so the larger the target, the longer it takes the Cosmic Shroud to unfurl and bind. If you're quick enough, you can escape it, but as yet nothing has successfully defeated this villain. Missiles and beams alike pass through it, and it can't be contained any more than a shadow can. If spotted, avoid at all costs.

Nobrow 6

Nobrow 6

Nobrow 6, The Double is available for preorder! The big reveal feels pretty good.

My piece entails an unwelcome invasion into a private bucolic garden. I was psyched to be included in this dauntingly great lineup of artistic talent. The book features work by Luke Pearson, Chuck Groenink, John Martz, Tom Gauld, Niv Bavarsky, Nick Iluzada and tons more, and has a good chunk of comics in this issue as well. Thanks very much to Alex Spiro for extending an invitation my way.

Get your hands on it!

here are a couple details if you'd like to take a look:

Here's A Painting I Made For My Grandmother On Her 85th Birthday This Last Sunday.  I Chose Calendula

Here's a painting I made for my grandmother on her 85th birthday this last Sunday.  I chose calendula and white cosmos because those are October birth flowers, and a skylark for our Danish roots, which all come from her! She's a great lady with all the vigor of someone whose far from 85, and I always love seeing her. I think she liked the gift :)

so, i’m trying to move.

in an effort to not haul around/destroy all of my work from the last couple of years, i have added several originals (and more prints) to my shop. this makes me sort of sad, but not so much if some of these drawings and objects end up having lovely new homes.

check them on out before it’s too late.

Kelly's work is beautiful.  Go beautify your walls/tabletops/shelves with it!

I recently did this piece for Bust Magazine's Oct/Nov issue on newstands now, for the article "Backseat Drivers No More" as part of their News From A Broad section. Big thanks to my AD Erin Wengrovius who pushed for those sweet pink lucite wayfarers.

Video Game Fan Art Day

Yesterday Jimmy Giegerich and I decided to make "video game fan art day" happen, and these are some of the quick little drawings that resulted on my part.  Here are Frog from Chrono Trigger (always in my team) including a little one of him croaking, Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and of course: Solid Snake. Check out Jimmy's great Ganondorf and also Sam Bosma's rad Chrono!

Andrea you deserve the buffalo much more than I do, you work is intimating and excellent!

Thank you! but I don't know about that!  Your work is amazing!!  I think The Buffalo is an honor to be shared after all...perhaps it should become the new Grammy or -insert award here- of art blogs?

I Did This Desktop Wallpaper For The Fox Is Black's Animal Collective Series A Little While Back And

I did this desktop wallpaper for The Fox Is Black's Animal Collective series a little while back and I'm excited to finally show it to you!  I loved working on this and was so psyched to be invited.  Check out the blog to download it!

It's been a little sparse for posts round here, and there are a lot of things I've been working on that I'd love to show you all, but I can't share just yet!  In the meantime I'll try to make more appearances and provide more sustenance in between updates.  Thanks for all the love and reblogs.  They've been really uplifting :)

The Trashcan Droid From Star Wars, Whose Name Is Apparently Gonk? (dumb) Jimmy And I Had A Moment When

The trashcan droid from Star Wars, whose name is apparently Gonk? (dumb) Jimmy and I had a moment when we discovered that, growing up, we each felt sorry for this lame little droid stuffed in the corner of that sand crawler because he was so ugly and all the other droids were probably mean to him.  That never stopped me from making fun of him either though.

It's Been So Long!  I've Missed You All!  Sorry About The Lack Of Posts.  Lately Inspiration Has Been

It's been so long!  I've missed you all!  Sorry about the lack of posts.  Lately inspiration has been a little bit scarce, but I thought I'd jump back on the horse with a new kaiju painting!  This is Agasukeron, one of my favorites.  These colors aren't exactly true to form as far as the figure goes, but I do love some pink every now and then.

Here's a tip: don't paint with gouache on top of reg'lar old acrylic without some sort of matte medium between the two!  For some reason my brain turned off and I thought I'd save some gouache by painting the background here in acrylic.  Mistake!  Ended up using more gouache to keep my colors solid and even.  So don't be a noob like me: all gouache, combo gouache and acrylic gouache, or make that acrylic a decent surface to paint on.

ink on dead magnolia leaves. is this “anthropomorphic fallacy”? uhh, too much time down here.

My lovely friend Kelly Lasserre's handwritten type is so good and so enviable!  There's something really sweet and silly about this that I adore, and all the painted objects she's been creating just make me so happy.
