I wanted to do the “Six Fanarts” challenge, so my friend recommended me six of her favorite characters to draw. Then I sent the picture to her so she could colour it in because she absolutely loves colouring.

Working on (yet another) ATLA wip in which during the invasion Azula helps Zuko escape and goes with him (because her beloved dumbass of a brother clearly has not been paying attention to all her subtle warnings on how not to get dead and clearly needs a more direct approach at keeping him alive and mostly in one piece). And in the process of getting the fuck out of dodge, Bato who's been separated from everyone else ends up accidentally crashing their escape party along with Toph and the four of them end up on the run together.
Toph gets along with the two runaway royals who are as suspicious and untrusting if Bato as he is them...at least until the fire siblings unintentionally trauma dump about their fucked up childhood and Bato decides "I'm dad now" and adopts them against their will.
Eventually Azula and Zuko just give up on fighting it and are like "okay cool, you're gonna be Firelord after we kill Ozai and then we can just chill for like, five god damn seconds"
And anyway eventually they all meet up with the Gaang and Hakoda and co and it's just like...
Hakoda:
This is my daughter Katara: Master Water Bender, Teacher of the Avatar, brave and true of heart.
And my son Sokka: genius inventor, master strategist, unmatched in his fierceness and loyalty.
Bato:
This is my new daughter Azula. She'll sell your soul to satan for a fire flake and then use that fire flake to take over hell.
And this is my new son Zuko. He's faral and will probably bite you. Don't leave him alone too long or he'll probably end up trying to fight god again.
And this is Toph... I don't know if I've adopted her or if I'm being held hostage but either way I've started saving up for the next time I have to bail her out of jail.

If I had a penny for every time I developed an unhealthy obsession with an animated fictional character that became the bitter, resentful antagonist of the story after they’d been betrayed/ outcast by their (chosen) family and, in the process, obtained a scar on the left side of their face, I’d only have three pennies, which isn’t a lot but it’s still weird that it happened thrice

Hakoda is seeded first in the tournament, having earned nearly 75% of all votes in his round 1 pool, defeating Fire Lord Ozai, Adult Aang, and Lieutenant Jee, and eliminating Master Yu, Admiral Zhao, Shady Shin, and Chit Sang from the competition.
In round 2, he defeated Amon’s Lieutenant with more than 88% of the votes.
In round 3 he crushed Uncle Iroh with more than 75% of the votes.
In the quarterfinals, he kept his momentum going to crush fellow DILF Tonraq with STILL more than 65% of the votes.
In the semifinals he STILL beat Firebending Heartthrob Mako with nearly 60% of the votes.
We have... ONE propaganda for Hakoda!
But tbh he doesn't need much more. We know what he looks like and what he’s working with. We know he’s an amazing warrior and a sweet dad. We’ve seen his leadership skills and have already crowned him one of the fandom’s top DILFs so… his competitors may have a lot to live up to…

Zuko came in second place in his round one pool, up against some very stiff competition, earning the 10th overall seed in the tournament. He beat out Uncle Iroh, both Bataars, Zaheer, The Boulder, and the Pirate Captain.
He defeated Monk Gyatso in the second round, earning over 83% of the votes!
In the third round he beat Bumi II with over 85% of the votes.
In the quarterfinals he managed to beat DILF King Piandao himself!
Finally, in the semifinals, for some GODDAMN reason he beat Iroh II by a sizeable margin.
There are only three pieces of official art of Adult Zuko, unless you want to count Old Man LoK Zuko which you are more than welcome to.

how similar zuko and ozai look from side profile got me thinking:
i mean they have the same straight forehead, same brow, and the long and sharp nose. having a familial resemblance to the person you hate most in the world is real and it sucks. i imagine this bothers zuko for a long time, bc every time he looks in the mirror he's reminded of ozai.
until one day he gets socked in the face by an assassin and breaks his nose. ever since then he has a nose bump and he's very happy with it

i feel like when zuko finds out sokka loves poetry he's just completely over the moon, like finally, someone else who appreciates the arts! until sokka says "of course i love poetry, it's like math but with words" and zuko nearly goes through the 7 stages of grief in a single minute. (he gets stuck on denial because there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY he likes something comparable to math.)
unfortunately, yes. sokka keeps shattering all of zuko’s fragilely-held illusions that there are two types of things in this world: math (which is bad) and art (which is not math).
zuko shows sokka a perfect conch shell on ember island beach and asks sokka if he thinks seashells are something that can only be appreciated by frivolous girls. to zuko’s great relief, sokka immediately replies “of course not!” until he immediately follows it up with an explanation of the fibonacci spiral, and isn’t it so amazing how math can be found in all of nature???
math??? in nature??? zuko’s nature???? preposterous!!!!
first poetry, then nature! zuko is determined to find something beautiful that sokka cannot tarnish by comparing it to that most vile and accursèd fiend numbers.
“what about MUSIC.”
“hate to break it to you, but that’s all math.”

zuko returns later with an irrefutable claim: that paintings are not and cannot be math.
sokka explains composition to him.
“next you’re going to say plays are math!”

by the end of the day, zuko is simply distraught. has his whole life been a lie? he always thought that math was numbers, and everything else was firmly Not-Math, but as it turns out, everything is math??? and there are numbers in everything???? O katara, what is he to do????
katara (an ally in his righteous crusade against math, specifically the type of math that sokka likes to insert into everything that is good and fun and sacred) wisely informs him to stop listening to so much of what sokka says, because, “sokka is an idiot, and your life will be so much better if you just tune him out.”
“besides,” she continues, “there’s no math in bending.” they both take comfort in this notion.
sokka wants so desperately to correct them. it would be so easy to refute such a ridiculous claim! instead he merely shrugs, as if to say, “well what would I know about bending??”
katara and zuko sleep soundly that night, which is all that matters.

SOKKA CENTRIC FICS
Here are some Sokka centric fics! Most of these works are not labeled as Sokka centric and so it’s very hard to find! There’s only 64 fics out of 15019 fics
Keep in mind I did not do any Zukka or Tokka fics bc I did not want to wade through that esp bc Zukka fics are 80% Zuko centric. It’s also possible that I missed some fics as, again, they are kinda hard to get a hold of. I literally had to block the Zuko tag at one point bc if Zuko was a character in the fic, it was going to be about Zuko, and it was just a lot to wade through to find that one fic where Zuko was a character but wasn’t the main character. I think my chrome shut down at some point which could have caused me to not include some fics. Basically I’m saying I didn’t get everything but I got MOST of it. Like 80% of it, even if I didn't include things I personally don't really like to read-sorry. Show this to anyone who says Sokka isn’t underrated! my man got 64 out of 15019 fics!
Also, PLEASE KUDOS THESE STORIES 👏👏👏👏 so many of them have far too little kudos and deserve more love! I think bc ppl are kinda bad with tagging, some of these stories hardly get any hits! Give them some love. And reblog this so other Sokka stans don’t have to wade through so much fics like I had to (seriously I’ve seen some crazy fics you would not believe *shivers*) bc it’s hard to find a needle in a haystack

People who are writing a story about Sokka should tag that story as SOKKA CENTRIC. It’ll give ur fic more love, and make it easier for ppl who love Sokka to find a fic about him. Also, on tumblr you see all these great analyses on Sokka, with theories like Spirit sensitive!Sokka, or Sokka working for the white lotus, and yet there are hardly any fics on it??? The untapped potential?!?! We also have no idea what Sokka does in the future (still salty LOK) so this gives us a lot of room to imagine and create stories! Like I need a fanfic on how Sokka does wtf??? You’d have thought that with this atla renaissance and people gaining a new found respect and admiration for Sokka’s character, that there’d be more Sokka focused fics, but nope :(
I’ve noticed that those who like Sokka don’t contribute to the fandom fic wise and guys we gotta step up (like I’m one to talk lol I’m gonna try and write some fics I swear!)
Also if you still want more Sokka fics I suggest searching in the tags bender Sokka, water bender Sokka, and fire bender Sokka. I also suggest that you go to fanfiction.net. I know it’s old, but so is this fandom, which means a lot of fics are there too. It’s easier to wade through the fics on fan fiction.net than AO3 simply bc of how little tags you can put there, so if Sokka is tagged, you know he actually plays a part in the story (no shade on AO3 I love it but sometimes it’s hard to find stuff bc the tagging system relies on the people knowing how to use tags, and the avatar fandom does not, but that’s bc it’s old)
Anyway, LOVE SOKKA MORE and don’t forget to reblog and let other ppl get access to these fics bc I know I would have loved it if someone made an entire list! (And organized it lol I never thought I was capable of organizing)
