Love the comparison to an AO3 comment section. I had a similar experience when I went to see it and I agree that it’s exactly what the play deserved, honestly I think it’d be stranger without that kind of reaction (would be lying if I said I wasn’t acting the same, just much quieter.)

maybe the world just isnt ready for the Dead Gay Poet Play,,, (got to see OSF's production of Born With Teeth last week and absolutely adored it. won't be getting over it for a while. reference photo is from OSF's instagram!)
