maya isn't stupid, she knows he's deflecting and she wants to just about roll her eyes right out of her head over it. everyone with eyes can see that's something's up with the two, that's not going to work as easily as he thinks it might. he could honestly learn from her, she knows how to deflect like a pro. "right. suuure you don't." she gives him a look, a little nod, sarcasm evident in her both tone and actions. "and you so definitely do, you can't see yourself when you're with him but everyone else can. honestly it's a little pathetic. and it doesn't. matter to me, that is. but i'm bored with nothing else to do." she gives a shrug. "so are you gonna stop being a baby and just tell me? because he's walking around looking like someone ate his cat."

oh , how shawn wishes that everyone would just leave him the hell alone . let him go about his way and not be bothered by the hundreds of people in auradon who just had to get to know the prince , now that the truth was out about who he was . that or just pry their way into his business . " i don't know what you're talking about . " he finally says with a sigh , running his fingers through his hair to push it back . " i do not follow anyone around like a lost puppy . and what's it matter to you anyway ? "

"ugh, can't wait until that's me." maya comments with a groan at udyati's comment about not being in school anymore. "but fucking right? exactly. exactly. you get it. school is a fucking cesspool full of teachers that get off on giving you a hard time and tries to teach you shit you're never gonna actually need in life. i'm an artist, why do i need to learn math?" there's a reason she's either constantly skipping or sleeping in class. "and now you can't even make comments to yourself, in a hallway, without getting more unnecessary bullshit."

"stuff like this is why i'm so glad i'm not in school anymore. you're already forced to give up so much of your time and energy to that hell of an institution and you willingly give them more? could not be me. most teachers are energy vampires. to quote mj: all i wanna say is that they don't really care about us."

this time maya can't hold back the roll of her eyes at kie's comment about her attitude. it's not like it's anything she hasn't heard before. but at the revelation of what the other's here for, realization dawns on her. she hasn't forgotten about the sketches, in fact, they're sitting finished on the desk in the corner as they speak. but she had forgotten kie would be showing up to get them soon. to be fair, it's been a long week.

still though, she's not easily going to admit her faults or mistakes so instead she purses her lips, ignoring the comments about the texts - she always keeps her phone on silent when she's trying to concentrate and she won't apologize for it - before letting out another sigh and setting the pencil down and laying her sketchbook open on the bed.

"right, yeah, okay. but no, no need to ask anyone else. they're right here." she stands, making her way over to them and picking them up the desk. however before handing them over she gives the other a raised brow. "i want the money first." of course she's not going to trust easily, it's not in her nature. no matter how much khione may have proven herself to be trustworthy in the past. this involves her getting paid.

it takes her longer than expected to get to maya, if only because mister kent inquired about her and her friends like the good person he is.

(and, also, whether this is a shoes-off household or not, she is a shoes-off person.)

after making the trek to maya's room, kie knocks before entering. it doesn't matter if people told her before that she can just enter (some of her classmates don't give a fuck, like karol topolski); she can't for the life of her enter someone's precious private domain without at least announcing herself.

"your frosty attitude," kie shoots back immediately, "please cool it down. i'm here for the figure skating dress sketches, as previously discussed. with the payment, also as previously discussed."

for a moment, she's quiet, taking in maya's room. "dunno if you saw it but i texted you i was on my way. and then i texted you again when i got here." then her demeanor softens, like snow flurries descending. "if it's not do-able, that's okay too. really, i can just ask penny lent. no harm, no foul. it'll still get done before my showcase. i don't want you to get stressed out on my behalf. i know what it's like when other people turn art into something it's not and i would never want to do that to a fellow artist."

it's been a long day, far too long of one - in her opinion. dedicating her life to fighting crime means sometimes her days end with her impossibly worn down, strung out, exhausted. but she never lets it show though, not for most around her, at least. always having to be that tough girl, that angry girl, the one putting on a brave face because she'll be damned if she lets anyone break down the walls she's so carefully constructed and put up ...

the exception, however, to all of this is of course, rose white. the one person on earth who gets to see every single side of maya that she doesn't show to anyone else. the weak side, the soft side, the vulnerable side. the one person who calms all those smoldering flames. so now, as she arrives, she doesn't say much. dropping her bag down on the ground, before approaching her girlfriend, not even hesitating before making her way into the other's lap - arms going to wrap tight around her.

maya's mom had encouraged her to talk to shawn, 'he needs all the support he can get right now and he is family', so here she is, attempting to do that. even if she doesn't really want to. head is propped on her hand as she looks at shawn. "so ... what's the deal with you and prince stevie? you're usually following him around like a little lost puppy dog ... trouble in paradise?" truthfully she doesn't really exactly care, but talking about this is much more appealing to her than talking about his feelings. "or did he decide to ditch you when the truth came out? realized he was more into the whole vk aesthetic?"

maya is trying to concentrate on the sketch in front of her, charcoal pencil moving across the paper, when she's suddenly interrupted by the sound of her bedroom door opening. eyebrows scrunching together, irritation flaring up at the interruption, she raises her head, somehow not surprised to see that it's kie. she lets out a sigh, holding back an eyeroll. "i'm a little busy at the moment." gesture towards her sketchbook. "but what's up?"

Maya's eyes narrow as she fully processes what the other's said, and before either of them can even blink - she's shoving them against the nearest wall, arm across their chest, holding them in place. "What the fuck did you just say?" Is asked, rage flaring to life in her chest - blue eyes turning black in anger.

Maya wanted to give into her instincts, to raise her hackles, bare her teeth, run away, but she was trying so so hard to actually be respectful. Be the daughter her father had raised. Still though, she crossed her arm over her chest protectively, eyed the older woman warily. "Look, I'm fine. Really. I just need to get home, so if you could let me call my dad I'll be on my way and out of your hair ..." She didn't do other adults, didn't trust most aside from the select few that she did, she just wanted out of there.

"i don't need help from anyone, least of all you." maya says with a glare towards the other, backing up from her as though rain's going to provide unwanted touch or something. "just leave me alone. don't you have someone else you can go bother?"

"you're gonna get yourself punched if you keep saying shit like that." maya comments, brow raised. she's not necessarily saying she's going to do the punching, but, well, if the situation calls for it. "do you ever hear yourself talking and think maybe it's better if you just stay quiet?"
