It doesn’t appear that Gat has any sort of ill-will towards the bishop. Having dedicated himself to the other sense, despite facing death multiple times, and having been exiled from his tribe years ago.
Having felt drawn to Hazel since he’d met the young bishop, he’d decided to follow the other of his own accord. In this verse, he hasn’t died yet - though there are some close calls.
