Rainy Day impressions
My plan to digitalize my notes on my iPad didn't happen today, since the Apple Pencil I bought on eBay is not working at all. Like -this thing is clinically dead. Also I had to move to the living room, since my boyfriend typing on his keyboard is currently the most annoying sound in the world to me. Needless to say, I didn't start my study session in a good mood.
But: I did what any sane person would do and made myself a macchiato and a bowl filled with sweets.
It's a beautiful day outside and I already feel a bit better, now that I've actually started.
Yesterday I went to a cafe and got a little bit of calculus done 🤭. Definitely behind in the course material but I’m proud of myself for putting in the effort. Also super happy I journaled a bit since it’s been months!
2h of calculus
10 pages of Braiding Sweetgrass
2 cups of tea
Hi! I’m Mel, and this blog a project of mine I’ve been thinking about for a while. This is basically a digital archive for all my science thoughts- anything that I feel deserves more attention, published research, or just things I find really cool! Keep in mind that I’m a minor (17 years old) and I’ll be using the block button liberally if I feel uncomfortable 🪐💫

so true and no less valid the other way around. most likely, it was noam chomsky who introduced me, a social scientist, to linguistics.

imagine how i managed to get a tarot client from a spanish lesson? we were asked to introduce ourselves and the teacher asked what I did for a living and I was like "How does one officially say that they read tarot cards for people?" lol
it's very literal, by the way - "Leo las cartas del Tarot"
we had a small talk about our professions and then one of my classmates asked if i had whatsapp or something so she could get a reading! i hope that this inspires you to just "do the thing" because this wouldn't have happened if i didn't bully myself into buying the spanish lessons!
what i did today 📤:
gym session with my sister (1.5hr)
bought new skincare products bc i'm breaking out again
ancestral reading for a new client
spanish revision + input (1hr)
duolingo (15min and 488 day streak)
currently listening 🎧 : las calles de mi ciudad by Bilbao

Not much studying has gotten done this weekend; I’m too busy enjoying some time in nature :) I did manage to read through a couple chapters of my EMT review book, and I saw a Milbert’s tortoiseshell butterfly, or, if the Latin name is more your style, an Aglais milberti.

Where do small perturbations go to get their hair cut? The ep-salon :-)

Why do mathematicians love pi so much? It's related to some shape, but they like that shape because it explains why pi shows up? Sounds like circular reasoning to me
Thank y0u, 1t’s amaz1ng t0 f1nd an0ther truly mathemat1cal th1nker 0ver the 1nternet.

two versions of my desk, before exams vs. during exams
Hey ! First of all, happy new year. I hope you’re all going to spend a very successful year ! I don’t know if you know focumon, a great and very cute website (and app,I think ?) to stay focused and work towards your goals.
If someone wants to progress with other students to stay motivated to study, you can check out my party : https://www.focumon.com/parties/466-the-study-party
I hope you can all manage to find motivation, focus and do your best this year. I believe in you. Good luck to everyone !
Happy new year 2025 !
don't study because you need to. study because knowledge is power. study because they can never take it away from you. study because you want to know more. study because it enhances you. study because it grows you.
Actually romanticising my life or at least certain points of it, makes it much much better. Reading, but do it with candles, a good hot chocolate, a nice surrounding: Much better. Studying but do it with good music and surroundings? Hell yeah. Taking a walk but it's in autumn and you can see the many colours swirling around your boots? Yas.
Slay life.
Born to read lots of books.
Forced to study for my exams.

It’s always interesting how, whenever I prepare an exam, my mind is always curious and needs to know more about the topic i’m studying. Am I studying literature? I wanna know more about that specific author and what they wrote. Am I studying anthropology? I wanna read an essay about a specific culture or the impact that some things have on society.
Right now I’m preparing a linguistic exam and the first thing I did yesterday when I entered into the library is borrowing a book about sociolinguistic, even though for me studying linguistic is a pain in the ass; but, despite that, I still wanna know how the use of language is correlated to gender, provenance or even social class.
Studying at uni is not easy. There have been times where i just wanted to give up, and sometimes I still wanna do it, not because I’m not good enough, but because of the amount of exams I still have to prepare.
Studying at uni is not easy, but then I force myself to do it and I rediscover the beauty of what I’m studying, I fall in love with the exam I’m preparing.
What I understood today is that there are some subjects that, even though are hard to deal with, they worth the studying, they worth the love. They worth the patience.
Linguistic is my odi et amo, something that makes me lose hope most of the times but also makes me wonder. And sometimes you need to stick with these specific subjects, even though they’re not easy to understand. Sometimes you need to stick with those specific sparks these subjects give you, protect them and find in them the reason to keep going and reach your goals.
