Ok! Tomorrow it's time to go back to work: finishing things, receiving new requests, and starting ideas.
But after saving the Dream, others are doing the opposite. 2023 was very much for Verannor and Caerisia - let's see how this one is going to be.
Hey @cumsplunge (please don't make me say your name again)! I saw your tags and I wanted to note that, while most spiders have relatively poor eyesight, there are actually many spiders with very good eyesight! The most obvious example is ogre-faced spiders, which are named after the distinctive look their massive eyes give them. Just look at 'em!
These little guys are also known as net-casting spiders and, as you might guess from the name, catch prey by actually casting a net of their webbing!
As such, having huge eyes gives them the eyesight to properly see and aim their net. Other spiders such as wolf spiders also have good eyesight, but ogre-faced spiders are easily my favorite. If you want to learn more about ogre-spiders, check out this hilarious (and informative) video by Ze Frank on Youtube:
jumping spiders and their babies

let's be jumpy with mama

Why is she looking at me like I'm the one who left her and the kids.
Lately everybody has been screaming about nothing
While I have been thinking about something
I write too much
And say too little
But maybe my words were just meant for paper
Lately it feels like my only friends
Are my colorful pens
Lately it seems like relationships are just dead ends
That die as fast as well spent weekends
I hang on like a loose tooth
That doesn’t believe that the tooth fairy afterlife is the truth
I feel like I stick around like an old cold
That’s got a gnarly hold
And I tell myself to
Put down the needle
Put down the thread
And stop sowing this tangled web
But I've got spiders in my hair
Arachnids are everywhere
I'm cursed
But I will wait
Until you become my prey
Someday
“It's me boy, I'm the PS5, Speaking to you inside your brain!”
“It's him boy! It's the PS5 Speaking to you from inside your brain, listen to him boy, leave the girl we don't need her. Come along and play his games, you'll have cowboy times in space! Do do do do yeah~ You need it boy your free will is an illusio-”
“idk man that's a lot of fucking spiders, I'd hate to go up against them ”
“So much venom. Even more webs. Oh my god”
It’s easy: Form a triangle, then a hexagon, then a bicycle wheel
This is the general mechanism on how a spider spins its web (talk about engineering, right?). When an insect gets caught in its web, the vibrations caused by the insect is felt by the spider which then rushes to engulf its prey.
Now here is the trippy part ; This is the effect of drugs on the pattern of the web.
Hope you are having a great week. Have a good one!

Is it just me or is that the most puppy looking fly ever
Finding critters for the city nature challenge! It feels more like they're the ones finding me, I barely got out of the house before seeing that larva
Creature things
Arthropods and a bonus snail!!
Anyone else like to pin the really tiny ones?
This is the jumping spider that lives on my desk. It just caught a fruit fly.

Shore Spiders (Pardosa milvina), male (left) and female (right), taken July 3, 2024, in Georgia, US
I only discovered after I was sorting through my photos from this trip that I had coincidentally gotten a male and female of this species in the exact same position, which helps emphasize their differences. You can see the difference in coloration, abdomen size, and palp size pretty well! This species is everywhere where I am, and they're especially prevalent on the shore of the creek, as their name suggests!
Stretch Spiders (Genus Tetragnatha), female (top) and male (bottom), taken July 7, 2024, in New Hampshire, US
This pair was set up under the awning of a dock lamp. It was an extremely effective setup, seeing as I had to hang out over the water on my stomach and put the life of my phone at risk to get pictures lol! In the top photo, there's a good view of the horrifically large fangs of this genus, while the male on the bottom is showing off his lovely gold coloration! He's a catch!
White-jawed Jumping Spider (Hentzia mitrata), juvenile, taken October 8, 2024, in Georgia, US
Videos of jumping spiders jumping at my camera are one of my favorite nature-related things to collect. On top of it being adorable, there is also variation in how each spider approaches the jump, especially their windup. I like scrolling through and looking at how all of them differ as individuals! This one was pretty calm about it, but I sometimes get jumpers who only aim with one leg, or even wave their legs around wildly while preparing to jump!
