Luke knows he saw Reid putting something in his mouth, at first he thought it was a breath mint, but what mints come in a round blue container? None.
They've been together for a few months and well Luke is aware of Spencer's, special behaviour, and the fact that he has an autism assessment in a week. On the next Wednesday. Luke tries his best to susport him and what he needs but it's hard when Spencer won't tell him because he's embarrassed.
Luke get's in the drives seat, glancing and hoping to spot the blue thing. "Ready to head back to the office?"
"Actually, would you mind dropping me at the metro?" Spencer cutches his bag close to himself. Luke's demeanor takes a dive. "Of course Spence, are you sick?"
"No..." Spencer mumbles, rocking back and forth slightly
"Hey, tell me what's wrong" Luke coaxes gently, locking the car so they won't be bothered. Spencer whimpers a bit, bouncing his leg. "I just...need to go home"
"I can drive you home, why would you wanna take the metro?"
"I just, need to be alone"
"Spencer, anything you need to do to feel better, you can do around me" Luke promises. Spencer bounces his leg a bit more, looking uneasy. "Promise?" Spencer grabs for Luke's hand and Luke gives it to him to hold. "Promise Spence" Luke says again, gently squeezing his hand.
Spencer pulls out a chewable necklace and begins to chew. Luke does his best to not react, only starting the car to take Spencer home. Sure it's, unusual. But if it helps, then it helps and that's all that matters. Plus, it's harmless, and a lot of Spencer's other self soothing isn't. Spencer's leg is bouncing restlessly as Luke drives. That in is self is not uncommon, but the fact he isn't rocking, not even slightly, is very different. So the, chew thing, is helping.
"How long have you kept that from me?" Luke tries to stop the question, but it comes out anyway. "A month and fourteen days.." Spencer admits, looking down, the chewable necklace still in his mouth.
"And what just is it cariƱo?" Luke asks gently, turning down the street to Spencer's apartment. Spencer doesn't answer right away, and Luke doesn't press, maybe he's gone non-verbal again.
"C-chewelry"
"What?"
Spencer whimpers and Luke squeezes lightly his hand "I'm not mad, just confused, i don't know what that is..... Do you need some quite?" Luke half whispers as they drive into Spencer's parking space, the parking space that is basically Luke's now. Spencer makes a light humming noise that Luke takes as a yes. So he shuts op. Helping Spencer out of the car isn't always easy, as his body sometimes just freezes op for hours. Luke smiles as Spencer gets out without a tug or a little reassurance. He simply follows Spencer op into his apartment.
By the time Spencer's gotten into more comfortable clothes and his body feels like his own again, Luke's made his bed op for him to rest. "Come on" Luke gently takes Spencer's arm, leading him into bed. Luke's sure he's worn out by now and while he sometimes thinks he's treating him like a child, Spencer's ever protested to the princess treatment. Spencer slips into bed, the chewelry still tucked away in his mouth. Luke would have thought he'd have given it op by now, but he's doesn't mind. It's actually pretty cute.
Spencer's eyes are half closed, Luke still has no clue why or how Spencer got overwhelmed today, but does it really matter? He'll ask him tomorrow. For now, Luke tucks himself in behind Spencer, holding the extremely tired man in his arms.
