Yut lung is obsessed with dress to impress, but he plays a lot of videogames overall. He spends most Saturdays playing COD with sing over call, telling song to "fucking kill yourself" when they both die. He also loves bullying children in VR chat!

Shorter didn't know how to swim until summer I'm Cape cod, and he almost drown. Several times.

Ibe had been previously married, and divorced several times. He's a hopeless romantic and realizes that he's probably made a mistake when it's way too late. He also previously knew Eijis mom in highschool, but they were separated after college and just simply growing up. They weren't too close but were definitely friends.

Eijis little sister is four years younger that him, and she is obsessed with idols and wants to be one.

Ash is constantly cold, Eiji is constantly breaking a sweat.

Shorter often gets so immersed in things that he forgets to take care of his basic needs. Lucky for him, he has a wonderful friend who tells him "take a shower you smell like shit" when he forgets ( bet you can guess who)<3

Ashs favorite movie is Romeo + Juliet, Eijis is transformers, Shorters fast and the furious, sings is detective Pikachu, and yut lungs is white chicks.

the banana fish fandom has been looking like it's dying recently, so let's share headcannons!

Eiji is a huge star wars fan, Shorter on the other hand is a huge star trek fan. Instead of fighting about this, they instead nerd out together and have binged the entirety of Star Trek the original series and the original Star wars movies ( jokes on them Ash is a fuckin nerd who loves both)

Shorter is a really big fan of music, pretty much any kind. Ash likes any kind of music that has a lot of music, so imagine him listening to alot of Midwest emo ( he loves la dispute) and also classical. Eiji listens to pretty much anything on the radio, but he has a soft spot for classic rock and metal like Ozzy Osborne.

Yut Lung has about 5 Instagram accounts, and he uses each of these just to bully others that he finds himself jealous of.

sing is a beyblade kid. Shorter also loves beyblades and he plays with sing.

Shorter introduced Eiji to South park. He has never been the same.

If we're looking at a banana fish AU in 2025, that would mean the boys are all Gen z ( which is absolutely crazy to think about) Eiji was definitely a unrestricted Internet access kid which is probably why he can deal with so much shit. Someone getting killed? That's nothing. Smile HD? Now that's terrifying.

Shorter probably has eaten a tidepod or something like that.

Ash collects classic vinyl, which is one of his escapes. He has all kinds, pop, jazz, rock, even some new stuff, but it really helps him calm down.

Shorter plays drums and Ash plays guitar. They were once in a two piece punk band which ended with a shootout between them and a rival gang.

shorter is actually really smart, but he dropped out of school because he was struggling with his ADHD and wanted to help his sister.

Ash would often claim Nadia as his own sister because she was so awesome.

Ash doesn't really get Japanese, so he started watching subtitled anime to try to understand the language better.

In Cape cod, the boys shot their own movie. Ash didn't want to be in front of the camera so he helped Eiji with the cinematography. It was a very poorly produced 15 minute film about Shorter, an aspiring actor, and it strangely turns into a zombie gore flick.

Ash and Eiji have some of the worst pet names and it's mostly a joke. Sometimes Eiji will call Ash some Japanese word with an absolutely crazy meaning, and Ash will think it's sweet but it definitely isn't.

Ash is definitely little spoon and he will fight for the death to keep this.

Despite his love for mustard, Ash absolutely cannot take spicy food, but he eats it cause he likes it.

Ash is a dog person and Eiji is a cat person.

I've seen some great Banana Fish content. So I just like to throw in some thoughts about this great/sad anime:

1) Cain was great. I feel like he didn't get a lot of credit. Love his character design. He came through when needed and cared about his gang.

2) Shorter was my favorite. 😔😭

3) When Ash screamed Eiji's name, I wasn't ready...nah, this whole scene had me about to act up! Yut-Lung, you bastard! But, seriously, I was invested in their potential future. 😭😭😭😭

idk why there’s so much porn in the Banana Fish tag but it feels like the world is writing a poem for me and it’s gonna put me in the ground

I finally made a blog, so I think I’m gonna make a post with the things I’ve noticed about Banana Fish that I haven’t seen anyone else talk about :D

(This won’t be very comprehensible, sorry, I’m autistic and gay and there are creatures in my air vents)

°Firstly, I used to wonder why on earth -after all he’d been through- Ash feared pumpkins of all things. Sure, it was something that frightened him as a kid (I’m not one to dispute childhood fears being silly, I used to be scared of my mother’s eyebrows when I was little) but you’d think that he’d maybe have gotten over it by now, right? Well, I have a few theories, but I think the most logical is one I have where it’s just him clinging to the last fear he had that couldn’t actually hurt him. He’s scared of pumpkins because pumpkins can’t molest him or kill him. At least, that’s my theory.

°Next, just want to point out that after Shorter dies Ash starts wearing his sunglasses. :D

°After cross-referencing the image of Skipper being shot and a diagram of a child’s internal anatomy, I’ve come to the conclusion that if he’d gotten immediate medical attention, he could theoretically have lived. To explain; Skipper got shot on his chest, around his collarbones. This missed his heart, from what I can see, but got his collarbones (obviously) and his lungs. While he’d have had shattered collarbones, probably nerve damage and a bilateral pneumothorax, those things are survivable when treated quickly enough. We saw him ‘die’ when his eyes dulled, sure, but honestly seeing as it missed his vitals he was probably passing out from pain. Meaning if someone had called an ambulance, he could have lived. But instead he bled out because people thought he was already dead.

°Not a sad point, but why does nobody talk about how Shorter slowly gets deyassified in the manga. First appearance, he has a Mohawk, earrings, a heart on his face, a fur coat, the mix. Next appearance, he has the Mohawk but he’s lost the earrings, heart and coat. After that he looks like Walter White. Who did this to him. Who did that to my wife. Own up.

°I’ve seen people dunk on and defend Yut Lung, and I’m not sure who’s side I’m on, but I’d like to point out the fact that in the manga he was way more outwardly remorseful about Shorter’s death. I’m not sure why they changed it, but I prefer the manga.

°Also, Yut Lung in the manga was ᵗⁱⁿʸ

°Also why does nobody talk about how in the manga Shorter had his shirt and shades when he dies, and in the anime they took them. How am I supposed to pay attention to his death when his boobs are out. Come on now

I’ll make another one of these if I come up with more, idk, but I just wanted to ramble. Hope it was interesting, at least.

I wish if Eiji was as sassy with the other character like he is with Ash. Also ignore the sketch being messy
