Here is my contribution to @meabhd‘s coloring contest! She did the lines, I did the coloring.
I had sooooo fun with this, mostly cause they are Harry Potter characters (Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown) but also cause I tried a new coloring technique! Turned out to be great practice and something I’ll definitely try again.

A sketch of Parvati’s and Padma’s dresses for the Yule Ball. Got reminded of how abysmal their dresses were in the film, so did my own version.
OMG YES. IF YOU HATE LAVENDER BROWN, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE SHE DATED RON, PLEASEEEEEEEEE GTFO.
Cho and Lavender were villainized by the narative in favor of Ginny and Hermione
Rowling despises teenage girls with traditionally feminine interests. She only treats those who don’t want to be like “other girls” or the pick-me girls well in the narrative. It’s clear she projects a deeply personal issue onto certain female archetypes, which makes me think she must have a lot of unresolved resentment, probably dating back to her childhood. She portrays Lavender as foolish for being desperate over Ron, when in reality, that’s not foolish at all—it’s completely normal for a teenage girl experiencing her first relationship and not knowing how to handle her emotions. She also mocks Lavender and the Patil twins’ interests, like Divination, girls’ magazines, or gossip, as if those things were inherently frivolous and shallow. It’s as if being a girl and enjoying “girly” things automatically makes you stupid or as if femininity itself is incompatible with having depth and other, more “serious” interests.
Likewise, through Harry’s praise of Ginny for not crying—contrasted with Cho, who does—she implies that sentimentality, emotional expression, or a lack of self-control are negative traits, while repressing emotions (which is traditionally associated with masculinity) is a positive thing that makes you “tougher” or “stronger.” Narratively, Rowling always favors Hermione for “not being like other girls” and turns Ginny into the ultimate pick-me girl. She’s a character who barely matters or has any relevance throughout the series until she suddenly transforms into the perfect cishet teenage boy fantasy: the girl who is super hot and sexually desirable but at the same time doesn’t waste time with “girly stuff” because she’s too busy acting just as aggressive as any macho guy, being hyper-focused on sports, and being “one of the boys,” cracking jokes, being rough, and acting cool. She’s a girl bro, the embodiment of the perfect woman according to male fantasy, not female. It’s as if she were designed by a hormone-driven teenage boy rather than a woman in her thirties.
Ginny is a disaster of a character from a gender analysis perspective—truly atrocious. And then there’s Luna, who doesn’t bother anyone because she’s too weird, yet she’s accepted by the “not-like-other-girls” girls precisely because of that weirdness. She’s the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, completing the trifecta of contemporary misogynistic female stereotypes embodied by Hermione, Ginny, and Luna—the only teenage female characters who are curiously treated positively and praised by the narrative. The rest are torn down at some point, specifically for reasons directly related to their gender.
Twins
Twins are incredibly interesting, as even those with very similar DNA and upbringing, can turn into very different people. We see this with all siblings: Lily v. Petunia, Percy v. the rest of the Weasleys and so not every set of twins ends up like Gred and Forge, a great example being Parvati and Padma Patil. Parvati and Padma were so different, they were sorted into different houses with Parvati being placed into Gryffindor and Padma being placed into Ravenclaw. Later on Padma would also be named Ravenclaw Prefect and was noted to be more serious than Parvati and was never noted to have such a close friendship with her sister or with anyone else to the extreme that Parvati had with Lavender.
But while their personalities were quite different, they did have both positive and negative traits in common. Both sisters bravely fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, joined Dumbledore’s Army early on and fought against Umbridge’s rein at Hogwarts. They also both showed to be somewhat superficial, agreeing with Harry when he was the chosen one or Triwizard Champion. More information about Padma would have provided more insight to how similar or different they really were, but it’s interesting with twins and siblings how some things just are how they are: people are born a certain way or a different certain way and very little can be done to change that

Ron after the Troll and lighting the teachers on fire: BLOODY FUCK! DRINK YOUR TEA AND CALM DOWN! I’M YOUR MOTHER NOW.
Ron meeting Neville: Awe my baby now. I’m gonna teach you how to fuck someone up.
Ron after Neville stood up to him and his friends: That’s my baby!!! That’s my baby! Wish he didn’t use that on us but I’m so proud!
Ron meeting Lavender: Ah a fellow pure-blood. You’ll make a great Beauty Witch like your foremothers. May you bring them honor. Good luck in your future medical profession!
Ron after watching Lavender shut Hermione down after she talked down about Beauty n’ Love Witches: Get her, Lav! Get her! That’s my baby girl! What Harry? Mione was asking for it. Just because she’s been here for two months, doesn’t mean she knows everything. Lot of Beauty Witches work in the hospital. One even created that bone-regeneration potion, ya know.
Ron meeting Seamus: Hello new roommate! Hope we can get along for the next six to seven years.
Ron after seeing Seamus blowing things up: BLOODY FUCK! FUCK FUCK FUCK!!! GET A TEACHER! YOU ARE GROUNDED SEAMUS FINNIGAN! GROUND!
Ron meeting Parvati: Huh…did I see her with blu-Oh! Right, she’s like the twins. She seems like the calming sort.
Ron after watching Parvati play switch-a-roo with her twin: I now understand my mum.
Ron meeting Fay: Oh she’s studying to an Auror? Sweet, can’t wait to see her there.
Ron after seeing Fay throw hands with a six year: Nooooo! Why?! My baby!
Ron meeting Kellen: Ah I see she likes Care Of Magical Creatures. A very hard profession. Good luck to her. She seems like she’ll make it far.
