The response was utter insane. In a good way! We had 18 (including myself) total, forming a Conga type line, snaking ourselves through the con floor. We even had people leading us shouting, “Make ways for the queen!” It was surreal. We had such an amazing time. Plus all the photos we posed for the crowds were astonishing as well.
The most interesting stories we definitely the responses we were getting from the crowds. Multiple people bowed for us, several people were just amazed at the shear size of the parade. Plus our two bearded handmaidens in the back of our line were getting lots of attention.
I decided on the decoy dress first. I really wanted to create it. That certain dress has a bit of a challenge to it and I knew I needed something fresh for Star Wars celebration in Chicago. But as I thought about it more, I thought it would be fun to make a group out of it! I had a couple of friends waiting to do something big for SWCC and boom, flamemaiden army 2019 was born! That dress has always been a favorite of mine plus the handmaidens. It felt like the perfect time to cosplay these magnificent ladies from Phantom Menace. PLUS we then figured out that it would the 20th anniversary of the film too. PERFECTION!
My outfit was put together pretty organically. There was a lot of experimenting with polyester velvet fabric manipulation with a heat gun. I used some cheap Halloween spider webbing decor I found from Joann’s plus lovely silk dupoini from Silk Baron. It was all over the place. The handmaidens also creates some of their gowns. It’s a tough look especially with trying to achieve the flame ombré. They did such a wonderful job. Also others purchased some from eBay then altered and weathered to their style. The amount of craftsmanship these creators put into their gowns either bought or made was incredible.
Getting recognized was the icing on the cake. The best part of the day was just being a part of this group. I’m honored to be their Sabé. It was an amazing day.

went to see rots last night and what a fun experience! my mom and i didn’t get to see it in theaters when it first came out, so it was new to both of us. seeing padme, my favorite character, on the big screen while dressed as her was such a great feeling, as was being surrounded by fellow nerds.

i am very specifically talking about this dress (for those who can’t see the image it’s the dress she wears on the flight back to naboo, and during qui-gon’s funeral). it’s dramatic, it’s gorgeous, and i will be making myself a wearable version in the future.

my central padmé take is that she is someone who constantly and increasingly feels like she has blood on her hands that she can never wash off. this is the core of her deal to me. ever since i started seeing her like this she has never ceased to make perfect sense to me

kinda fucks me up to know that the first among anakin's immediate friends and family to realize he'd become a danger to them was threepio. like what about anakin triggered his threat sensors? was it the way he moved? the expression on his face? what about the youngling slaughter clung to him? how could a droid sense the dark side when those who love him couldn't see it?

Feigned Death: Rumors of Padmé Amidala’s Survival
Anyone on that planet will tell you how they grieved at Padmé Amidala’s funeral. Some know the truth. Few will admit it. She did not die in childbirth, but she knew that to protect her children that the whole galaxy had to believe that she died.
Upon her internment, she fled, hid in the outer rims and lived out of reach, in great heartbreak, out of reach of her family, her children, out of reach of him sensing her. She lived a long life, some say even had more children and went on to help others in need, but never fulfilled, always a void, sad.
Strong rumors even spread that she made a few daring visits to her young daughter on Alderaan (fuzzy accounts exist that she visited her son on Tatooine) but that it became much too dangerous, and she had said a final goodbye to Leia at such a young age that the child would probably just hold the memory as images, nothing certain, an impression of her beauty, her heart, her longing, her pain.
“What does it matter if my grandmother had more children? They would not be strong with the Force unless she had met another Jedi as strong with the Force as my grandfather.” Ben mused.
“Wouldn’t it matter to you that you have more family out there? This stranger pushed. “Perhaps they aren’t strong with the Force, but perhaps there are more ways to be powerful in this galaxy. Perhaps they would have stories from your grandmother about your grandfather.”
She hadn’t decided if it was wise or not to hint at these stories passed down amongst her people from the descendants of the Amidalas, but it was too late to take back what she had just implied. And her intention was to remain silent no matter what his next words were because she felt like that she had just revealed the location of Padme’s descendants although she didn’t even know where that was.
She questioned herself on why she felt the need to share all this with him, only knowing him for these few months, but she also knew the answer to the questions that she posed to herself about why she felt so compelled to share details with just him.
