As a kid that came from a 'She loves me, she loves me so much it hurts. I just wish she was a better Mother so loving her back didn't feel so hard' relationship with my own mom I latched on to Kurt and Rouge so, so hard as a kid. I felt their pain, their conflict, but every time I saw Raven... I couldn't help but love her, couldn't help seeing my mom in her. It doesn't help that Mystique is actually her favorite right behind Storm. It's my own inside 'joke', my mom will always love me just like Raven will always love Kurt and Anna but she was never the mother they needed her to be, especially when they needed her the most. Maybe I won't always feel like her little Nightcrawler, but for now, I don't mind it so much, I have my own Rouge after all (even comes with their own Gambit) and he's the best big brother in the world.

I think the ideas that

“Raven is a bad parent”

And

“Raven loves their children”

Can and should co exist. I will never sit here and say Mystique is a good parent, but I think acting like they don’t love their children is just being willfully ignorant of their characterization since the 80s.

I see a lot of people try to claim Raven doesn’t care about their kids. I actually think they care a LOT, it just, doesn’t deter their actions. And they’re not a good parent, don’t get me wrong, but that doesn’t mean they don’t love Kurt and Rogue and I think trying to claim they don’t actually does away with a lot of Raven’s character nuance.

A lot of the tragedy and depth of their relationships come from the fact that Raven DOES love their children, but it’s not enough. And Kurt and Anna Marie know that, and that’s part of the tragedy of it too.

I’m not a Mystique defender, but I am a Raven Darkhölme characterization realist. A lot of people flatten their character to add more sympathy to Kurt’s story especially, which feels kinda iffy to me. But that’s for another post.

From a storytelling perspective, it adds so much more depth and tragedy to all characters involved to not make the relationship so shallow and one sided as “Oh Mystique doesn’t love them”, and even to juxtapose Raven’s relationship to them with Irene’s is a whole other thing I may talk about one day. But like, you do the story injustice to flatten it down to just “Oh Mystique sucks”

Tl;dr - Raven Darkhölme is a shitty parent but they do love their kids. And that’s the whole tragedy of the thing

just finished Xmen 97 last night and the emotional damage was INTENSE

I wanted to make a Kurt keychain just for myself, so I did this. :))

The keychain will not have the white boarder around him, but everything else is staying! I have a second version of this doodle that has some neat textures but I'm not turning it into a keychain because I'm unsure how that would turn out on a small little thing. I'll definitely share the keychain when it arrives.

I'm still figuring out how to get it done though, and I will, but it might take a bit with all the stuff I have going on irl atm. Oh well! :))

I'll probably do a few more if this one turns out good. I'm thinking one of Ahsoka next. Then maybe Qifrey from WHA and Ekko from Arcane. Also might do the hobbits from LOTR. ^^ I'm very excited.

Thinking about designing myself a little Kurt or Bamf keychain and having it made. 😭😭This man is making me crazy...

Some Kurt wips because I am once again doing a Kurt central sketch dump sooner or later. I typically just digitalize my sketches from my sketchbook, so that's why a bunch of them are all on one canvas aksjkja. What can I say? I love this fuzzy blue man and I'll say it over and over again.

Rook has had a hard life. His fight or flight response activates when shown genuine kindness sometimes, and they always chose fight, which I figured would play out funnily with Kurt, since he is such a genuine and sweet guy lmao.

They momentarily worked with the X-men for a random mission and now ends up running into members of the team occasionally. This is also how he met Reign, who casually assists the X-men with missions! :)) She isn't really part of the X-men exactly, she just does her own thing, but she's a wicked spy and they find that useful.

The character in middle, between Rook and Reign in the second slide, belongs to my bestie @awritersrenaissance! Her name is Gabrielle Morris, also known as The Moth hehe. Fun fact, Gabs and Rook are cousins and their stories are pretty intertwined! (The character mentioned as Hammerhead is their oc as well.)

Sorry for all my notes, I know they're not ideal, but that is just how I get info out sometimes lol. I will probably be drawing these sillies more later. If anyone is interested in Rook and Reign for any reason, please don't hesitate to ask questions! I love yapping about my ocs.

I'll probably make some silly doodles of them interacting with canon characters soon enough. I have a funny idea for Rook and Kurt's interactions asjakjsk.

These doodles vary in dates, which you can tell by the fact that Rook's ref has only my signature and no watermark, but the others have the watermark and no signature lmaoo.

I changed Kurt's dialogue a bit, since I feel like "babe" is a more common and inclusive term, but it also keeps the playfulness of the original panel that I redrew. :)) Kept the style kind of simple, since I did not feel like I would finish this if I went anymore complex. Anyway, here is the comic panel that I redrew/that inspired me to do this.

A... idk??? Chibi Kurt??? I don't want to call this a chibi style, but idk... maybe it is just stylized. Anyway, I drew these a day or so after the last Kurt drawing. I wanted to see if I could capture the way I had drawn/painted his fur again, but did not feel like doing a complete piece lol. So here is a funky Kurt.
