Loved This So Much This Was Exactly What I Was Envisioning And More - Blog Posts

hi luv, I too was wishing I was in pandora rn but im stuck revising for my exams lmao

I wondering if I could request a Tayrangi clan reader x neteyam dating headcanons

-> for a quick preface I read up about the different clans in avatar lore and the tayrangi clan is so progressive and eclectic that I even prefer them over the other clans shown. Ikeyni (shown in the first avatar movie) girl bossed so hard for her 2 seconds of screen time, Ikeyni is actually the first female clan leader ever, so I wanted the oc reader to be her first born daughter and the next in line for the clan leader position, so there's a lot of parallels between neteyams and ocs life. and neteyam and the oc have the same type protective over each other narrative like Jake and neytiri <3

also still not over his death, like why James gotta do us like that

ps; give ya full creative freedom cuz I love ya writing, have a nice day

Neteyam x f!Tayrangi!Reader

an: I love, love this request and I'm super thankful that you also included more information about the Tayrangi! Honestly, I had to google it to remember who they were, but Ikeyni was THAT girl in the final battle for sure! Hope I did your request justice, I think you inspired me so much, that it became longer than expected.

Also, good luck on the exams - you've got this! <3

After the war, the Omatikaya develop close diplomatic relationship with the Tayrangi clan. That included being present on all important ceremonies, exchanging warriors in training and yearly meetings, where they discussed the potential danger of humans returning.

It was the celebration ceremony for the birthday of the clan leader’s daughter when you came to the jungle for the first time, together with your mother and a handful of your best warriors.

You have arrived on your ikrans, who were a little bit bigger than the mountain banshees that lived in the Hallelujah Mountains. Circling around the Tree of Souls, you managed to gain the attention of all the Omatiakaya sitting on the ground, who stepped back in a circle, once you landed in the middle of them.

Neteyam’s eyes immediately landed on your form - proud, tall, and covered in red and white body paint - and he choked on his air, catching everyone’s attention, including yours.

The eldest Sully has never been so embarrassed, the tips of his ears and cheeks in crimson red, while Lo’ak was behind him, holding his torso and trying to shake him up and down.

Once he managed to take a breath, he looked towards you again, only to find you smirking at him, before you turned your attention to Jake and Neytiri.

Soon he realised the woman next to you was your mother Ikeyni, and she was also a clan leader. Now it made sense why you carried similar painted patterns on your face and chests, and why you were seated right in the centre, next to his family during the whole ceremony.

Unlike him, you were not shy. You kept gazing towards his direction while you were all praying to Ewya for the health and prosperity of the child, and had no problem coming to him and his siblings once dinner started, sitting right next to him.

“Hi, I’m Y/N? You’re Neteyam, right? The oldest son of Toruk Makto? You’re cute!”

He almost choked again, this time on his food, while Lo’ak and Kiri burst out laughing. The whole time while you were eating you kept flirting with him and giggling at his embarrassment, giving more reasons to his siblings to tease him.

You were staying with the Omatikaya for few more days, and you and Neteyam wasted no time searching each other’s company. Flying with your ikrans, going hunting, walking around the jungle, where he would proudly show around his home - you were glued to each other almost from early morning to late night.

Just like him you were the next clan leader in training, yet you were raised and trained in much different way.

Unlike his timid and calculated nature, you were very confident, loud and adventurous. You had no problem seeking high adrenaline activities with his brother Lo’ak, who openly admired you, or breaking the rules set by the elders.

You also did not have the complex of the golden child - your mother told you that the only way to learn is through mistakes. Neteyam was jealous of your care-free nature, wishing that he was also treated the same way.

The day of your leaving, you promised each other you’re going to visit, when in sudden burst of confidence, he kissed your cheek before running away.

Unfortunately for you, the meeting did not become reality for a while. Already 15, you were one of the warriors sent to help the Omatikaya clan once the humans came back and your blood boiled with excitement, knowing you would see Neteyam again.

Once you did, your heart stopped for a second - he looked somewhat taller, and his hands and back gained some muscle.

His reaction was not different - still painted in the traditional red and white paint for your clan, you started looking more like a woman, rather than a child. His jaw clenched once he noticed Lo’ak was already having you in his arms, twirling you around, while he was still frozen in his place.

While you were still the self-assure, funny girl he met a year ago, you looked way more collected and calm, not rushing in any dangerous races or activities (much to his brother dismay) and preferring to spend time with Jake and Neteyam, strategizing your next moves.

The older Sully brother, however, had a very hard time concentrating around you, causing him to get scolded more often by his dad. You saw that and in your typical nature, called out Jake for being too strict on his son, leaving him baffled with the way you just spoke to him.

You just struggled your shoulders, saying: “In the Tayrangi clan you do not owe ultimate respect to those older than you - if they are wrong, they need to be called out. How else would they know they are not in the right?”

Again, you started spending more and more time together, your wild nature definitely affecting Neteyam, who has never sneaked out late at night before, neither had he answered back to his dad, when he was scolding him for Lo’ak recklessness.

Jake definitely did not like you in the beginning - just like any Tayrangi, you were too independent and had complete disregard for any rules.

Neytiri on the other hand adored you - she has always held a great respect towards Ikeyni and you were complete copy of her character, making her proud that Neteyam was involved a such a strong female. She also secretly enjoyed the way you would argue with Jake, since in her opinion, he was too harsh on his sons.

Always speaking your mind, you are the one who openly admitted your feelings towards the boy during one of your late night walks in the jungle, and stating you wished you were more than friends.

All the confidence Neteyam developed while you were apart from each other, immediately vanished and it took him nearly 30 minutes to gather his words in proper sentences and admits he likes your back.

This was also when you had your first kiss - short, soft and gentle.

After that you would constantly steal kisses from each other - early in the morning before everyone wakes up, during training, while you were playing around with the other siblings and thought they were not looking.

Jake has definitely caught you at least a couple of times, however, seeing that his son looks way happier and in a good mood, since he started his relationship with you, he just smiled at you, leaving you alone.

I imagine while he is not a big fan of PDA, you would constantly try to search close contact with him all the time - in the forms of hugs, small touches on the arm, kisses on the forehead, massages - you love to show him your love and you were not afraid for the other Na’vi to see it.

Both of you are very protective of each other, completely losing your mind if one of you get into danger. Unlike him, you are not hiding your emotions, so every time he gets hurt, you show your whole palette of moods - from sadness, to disappointment, to anger, till you finally cry in happiness next to his shoulder, thanking Ewya he is alive.

Despite living with the Omatikaya for a while, you do not adapt well to all their rules, especially the ones that involve always listening to the elders. You would often get defensive very quickly, especially if you hear unreasonable critique towards Neteyam, who always try to tug you back to his side and apologize for your outbursts, before you glare at his head.

I just know, you’re going to be the one pulling Lo’ak’s ears every time he gets in trouble or at least tries to. While he loves you like his sister, he is very scared of you.

Would probably fight with Neteyam from time to time, mainly because of your cultural differences, yet you would made up after an hour at most. You can’t seem to stay away from each other for a long time.

Would make him choke again, once you randomly ask his parents if they can promise him to you as a future mate.
