LMAO I’M SO SORRY. Tis the curse of being a Marauders Era fic writer 😔
No way in hell I just saw someone say Jily doesn’t make sense??? HELLO??? ITS THE BACKBONE OF THE ENTIRE SERIES?????
What if trophy-husband, stay-at-home-dad, wife-guy James and famous-chemist, working-mom, breadwinner Lily?
Sirius literally towers over everyone. He’s like 6’5 and super broad. He’s not touchy, but his favourite form of physical contact is putting his chin on people’s heads (only his closest friends). Remus (5’10) likes cuddling up as close as possible to gather heat, like a little warmth-sponge, and will worm himself so far into Sirius’ personal space that he ends up inside of his jumper with him. James, being the second tallest Marauder (6’0), doesn’t fit unless he hunches over, but he enjoys it the most out of the whole friend group, partially because James is also pretty broad and Sirius is the only one who can make him feel dainty. Peter (5’3) likes it, but feels really short whenever Sirius does it, which is annoying. Lily (5'5) thought it was weird at first, but got used to it and started to find it sweet when he began doing it when she got close after getting with James.
Okay I understand that! From what we see of Jily in canon (which was only actually 5th year and then how much they loved each other when they died) they were something akin to rivals back then. Which… they were 16 at most, so, y’know. I do stand by my point that Snape’s relationship with the Marauders wasn’t bullying, but their relationship was inherently negative. They both had friend groups that fought near-constantly, and it was definitely vicious, there’s no doubt about that. I just think that it went both ways and, honestly, I wouldn’t blame them if they were bullying a guy who was, for all intents and purposes, a death-eater in the making (and was very vocal about it). I would also like to note that Snape was obsessed with Lily and her feelings towards James were probably exaggerated to some extent by his negative biases towards James! From what we hear from Sirius, she didn’t actually hate him all that much, just found him a bit annoying (which, to be fair, he was also biased in the other direction, but he’s always a lot more honest than Snape in canon, so I’m taking his word a little bit more seriously). Circling back to what I said about James and Lily’s relationship, based on their actions when they died, it’s very clear that they both grew up a lot and are clearly much better people for it. But you are very right that JKR’s work is always kind of bad, even if it’s canon, so I’m glad that we, as a fandom, have managed to expand on her ideas to something less inherently horrible.
I ship fanon jily but I do not ship canon jily. You're telling me a guy who bullied a girl's best friend, harrassed her, wouldn't take no for an answer when she made it clear she wasn't interested in him, told her he'd stop bullying said friend if she went out with him, ended up marrying said girl? And she had a baby at 21? Sounds pretty toxic to me (even if said 'best friend' was also a dick).
James Potter who knows how to take care of long hair. He learned how to properly section and brush it, how to braid, how to make a bun, how to trim split ends, how to pick the right products, how to clean it, how to take care of curls, all of it. Lily doesn’t understand— his hair is constantly a mess and he only uses high-end product because his dad makes it. Then, she walks into the dorm towards the end of seventh year to see him sitting on a bed, a very disheveled Sirius in front of him, slouching and half-dead looking, while James gently brushes out his freshly-washed, mid-back length hair.
James, being the amazing friend and brother he is, learned how to take care of hair because he knows how much Sirius’ hair means to him, but he gets depressed sometimes and can’t do it, himself.
