I've loved being involved with the Morning Coffee Writing Competition this summer and today is our final day for submissions (we close at midnight Dublin time). If you have a 500-1000 word story up your sleeve or would simply like to donate, you can do so via this link. As an Irish person I loved the inclusion of the Irish experience in Sinners and how it is comparable to that of black people and the Native Americans. The Irish were colonised and forcefully converted to Christianity, we were stripped of our language, culture, land and religion similarily to the people of the African and Native American tribes. Hell, when Irish immigrants first came to America they weren't even considered white (which really goes to show how arbitrary the term 'white' really is). The Rocky Road of Dublin scene is just so great. To have a mainstream film feature a character sing a traditional Irish jig and do some Irish dancing is so cool, plus the song straight up slaps. I love this movie so much, it better get all the awards.
That being said, just because Remmick suffered at the hands of the British does not justify all the terrible stuff he does. He is still very much the villain of the film.
