lulu looked up and at the man and swallowed back her tears and tried to smile at the joke. it was a weak attempt and past her would have loved that pun. she nodded, “yeah better then spilled milk.” gathering up some things in her arms the blonde nodded vigorously. “i’m fine. really. you ever just have one of those days when you know it’s all going to be toppling down but you don’t know what gonna push it.” that was her every day life. “I really should just get reusable bags at this point. but my cart is broken so one thing at a time ya know.”

a slight nod, he may not know exactly what the other was going through, but the feeling was familiar. frankly, he wouldn’t admit that to anyone who actually knew him. mike munroe was supposed to always be on top of the world. more often than not he felt like he was missing something, or that maybe he wasn’t doing what he should. “there’s always hope for a better tomorrow, that’s probably what i’m supposed to say. i’ll keep my fingers crossed that’s the case for you. but as for your cart i could take a look at it if you think it’s salvageable. i don’t know a lot about fixing things but i do like to try to figure shit out.”
each footstep echoed against the concrete as mike went for his run, airpods in each ear. mike attempted to focus — mentally going through his notes for one of his upcoming finals. LAW SCHOOL, he had the confidence ( perhaps too much of it ) to do it, but there was always a part of him that feared FAILURE. he almost didn’t see the other until a can struck his foot. he quickly picked up what he could to help, pausing however at the sight of her tear filled eyes. “hey, no need for emotional cabbage — better the spilled milk than you right ??” mike jested in usual manner, an attempt to lighten spirits. “you alright ?? they never double bag, it’s bullshit.”
lulu juggled the bags on her arm and tried to get back home quickly as possible. her wagon had lost a wheel and she was still waiting for the new one to come in but she had to grocery shop. the blonde picked up her pace but the inevitable happened and one of her bags broke. she watched as her stuffed rolled away from her and she tried not to cry. she knelt to the ground to start picking up some items but tears filled her eyes and she shook her head. she could do this, she could get home and then she would cry at home.

Amelia laughed and nodded her head. “I’m happy to do it honestly. It gives me something to focus on.” She replied, shrugging her shoulders a bit as she spoke. Having this party to focus on took her thoughts away from her dad and everything else in her life. Hearing his words, she smiled a bit and gave another nod of her head. “I promise I’ll take at least ten minutes at a time. I think my boyfriend and friends are lingering around here somewhere, so I’ll get them to make sure I chill out.” She assured him. “I’m Amelia, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.” She introduced, holding her hand out to him.

“well good — cause if everyone’s not having a good time, it’s a failed party.” he quipped. truthfully most didn’t not have something go wrong ; whether it was with the planning or the guests. even more casual ones than this could turn quickly, or so he assumed. “but thank you. i’ll rest easy the rest of the night.” a short laugh and he extended his hand to hers as well. “i’m mike. nice to officially meet you. i’m surprised to run into a new face, i feel like i’ve been here forever. then again, this place is way more crowded each year.” even now looking at the crowd one would have to push their way through. he liked it though, kept things interesting.
mike took a moment away from the ball’s festivities, enjoying another glass of whatever beer was on tap. after practically living at frat parties he learned not to be too picky, even despite usual high standards. raven brow arched at the others words before they wrinkled in confusion. “sorry dude, am i supposed to know who that is ??” mike was a hot 100 billboard kind of guy. “what’s the genre ??”

swirling the champagne in his glass, steve rogers stood against the wall, the corners of his mouth upturned as he watched everyone dance. he’d always been fond of dancing, but at the moment, he had decided to simply observe. and anyways, the music wasn’t exactly what he was used to. he wasn’t even sure he knew how to dance to it. “ you think if i requested some ella fitzgerald, it would cause an uproar? ”

Amelia laughed lightly and nodded her head. “While I can see your logic, I don’t know if I could completely agree with it. Just because you can’t see them, doesn’t mean they aren’t hiding around here somewhere. However, I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the event. We do all this work so people will hopefully enjoy it.” She replied. With his words, her head tilted a bit like she was thinking over his offer. “Hmm, can it be a total of an hour? Like maybe not all at one time, but more of a cumulative hour throughout the whole night. That I think I can accomplish.” She figured some times with her friends and Wes, she could make up an hour.

"well someone’s gotta bear the brunt of the work && i’m glad it’s not me,” he quipped, though quickly added — “ && that it’s done by people who are actually good at it.” mike always followed through on his word, on anything he set his mind too, but that wasn’t always necessarily a good thing. trouble tended to follow, more so than he even knew. when it came to school he was organized, a future lawyer had to be. but in daily life ?? mike had to relax a bit to survive. “usually i’d say no, but i’ll compromise. just try to at least chill more than five minutes at a time. there’s always some drama at these kinda things, but doesn’t make it any less of a party.”

Listening to him list off the things that were great about event made the same smile on her lips grow as she nodded her head. It was his next sentence that made her chuckle before she shook her head. “Not on my own no, but I did have a hand in the planning team. And have been working at it for the last few weeks, and that’s just working on decorations and such.” She explained, shrugging her shoulders a little. “Honestly, celebrating is something I’ll probably do after the event with probably a giant ice cream and sleeping until I can’t anymore.” Amelia joked with a laugh.

dark gaze playfully searched around the venue — “well i don’t see anyone else close who seems to be on the team. so, you can just take the credit for now. as well as my thanks. anyone who helps bring some ENTERTAINMENT ‘round here gets my humble gratitude.” while a lover of parties, he wasn’t exactly a planner. mike liked to lived life on a whim, see where each day took him && deal with the repercussions of anything later or not at all if he could help it. he laughed along with her, shaking his head. “that you do. but you also gotta have at least a little bit of fun tonight. for my sake. knowing someone’s at a party && having a stressful time ?? talk about a downer. a minimum of one hour of fun, y’gotta promise.”
to mike, this was like PROM, but even better. some might say he was stuck in high school — wanting to relive the glory days && go back to much simpler times. but honestly, what the hell was wrong with that ?? unlike many, he could only assume, he loved those days. as an athlete he got along alright, more than alright to be perfectly honest. so, mike already was having a good time, drink in hand as he wandered the place when amelia spoke to him. an easy, dimpled grin met her own, nodding enthusiastically as peered around the venue once again. “hell yeah. can’t complain — food, music — it’s all fucking perfect.” only then did he catch onto her words. “wait — you’re tellin’ me you did all this ??” raven brows arched, impressed as smirk widened. “well shit. you deserve at least one drink or something. CELEBRATE a little.”
Amelia had been working events for a long time at this point. Even for being twenty-four, she had more experience than a lot of the people she met during her internship. She probably could’ve done something great there, but her family was more important to her. Her sister was just finishing high school and her mother needed help, even if she wouldn’t come out and say it. Nice thing about Ivywood, they sometimes threw decent events and she got to help. Amelia told everyone she would meet them there, knowing she would have some work to do before the event started. As she finished getting ready, Amelia slowly moved down the stairs, eyes moving over the event happening below. It was okay for her to have fun and to forget about everything going on for a little while, plus she was in love with her dress and excited to get to wear it. Spotting someone, she smiled before speaking. “Are you enjoying the gala so far? I honestly think it turned out pretty great, but I might be a little biased.”
