I Really Like V But He Is Not A Fucking Saint - Blog Posts

Wow I really hope there's a Rika route since guess what dearie people actually like her and would like to see her idk turn her life around and stop culting? Asides from the fact that we had to sit through that shitty V route that pretty much just destroyed his character.

Wow, coming into my ask box hidden behind a mask with a condescending tone? I can see why you like her. :)

Rika can “turn her life around” and “stop culting” without adding romantic love from an MC into the mix. In fact, though V’s love was arguably not healthy, if anything her being in a romantic relationship and still heading down the path that she did should tell you that love is not the cure-all for her. Therapy (and prison at this point) would be necessary. The game says as much through Zen when he talks with V on Day 10.

In a game where romance inspires characters to change themselves for the better, it’s clear that at least part of the meaning behind Rika’s character is that you should learn to love yourself first before expecting the love of someone else to save you. Think about it - V tells the MC that he tried to love Rika unconditionally, like God would. And while that was ultimately unhealthy for both of them, even that was not enough to sustain her and, just like Zen said, she moved onto something else to fill that gap that only loving herself would fill and tortured countless others through Mint Eye.

The only way for her to turn her life around would be through therapy and for paying for the wrongs that she has committed, which you could argue happened through Yoosung’s intervention in V’s Good Ending or through Zen’s intervention in the Secret Endings (though she was not prosecuted for her crimes in the Secret Endings, which was bullshit).

“that shitty V route that pretty much just destroyed his character.”

Hahaha… Nonny, you DO get that V is an antagonist, right? He’s been the same character the whole time. While I’m sure some of his intentions were good, in the end he lied and obstructed justice in order to save the object of his obsession. In Ray’s route, he even says as much - he knows he should intervene to save Saeran but also knows that he would lose Rika in the process. And so he waits and lies about everything to the extreme detriment of those around him.

From V’s own mouth:

Jihyun is an antagonist in Mystic Messenger. He is written as a sympathetic antagonist. But an antagonist none the less. If anything, his route and Ray’s route have only made his intentions more clear. The character has not changed, his route did not destroy his character - merely showed it in a clearer light.
