What bothers me about Harry Potter fans is how much they ignore the filth of their favorite characters. Especially the Marauders and Severus Snape. If you despise Snape and love the Marauders, don't forget that your anger at Snape for ignoring the feelings and emotions of others is the same as Remus Lupin ignoring the antics of his friends that cause moral and physical pain to another. Let's face the truth and understand that they are all traumatized idiots. I despise them all, but they are damn interesting.
Recently watched the Howl's Moving Castle once again and now I just can't stop thinking about Tom Marvolo Riddle being in Howl's place: young talented wizard with no interest in aggression, only self-preservation but used and abused by the system that sees magical children as soldiers and mere tools. Him lacking the heart and and surrounding himself with shiny things like a magpie. Him meeting Harry with a heart so big for his chest he carries it on his sleeve (it's so naive and stupid Tom suspects a foulplay at first that caters to his bird brain). Harry meanwhile being stupid and afraid of change and all the way finding solace with his curse because maybe being old is not so bad (no one calls him boy anymore). Him being reckless and so utterly in love he later on breaks time and space to find fragments of the idiot he now is tied to. Horcruxes can actually exist here because I don't think there is a universe where Tom Riddle is not being paranoid and afraid of war and dying. Them later on overcoming their fear of commitment completely unintentionally along the way sounds in character to me as well.
