Summary: Mushy May Day 11
Dew has just come out of his elemental transition, he doesn’t feel worthy of anyone anymore, Aether doesn’t fail to prove him wrong.

Dew was in the ghouls’ wing of the ministry, sitting alone on an armchair of the common room. The new summons for the fourth era of the ghost project were sitting in the same room, they were his pack now, he supposed, even if he hadn’t even gotten to know them yet because of his elemental transition. He still had Aether and Mountain, he supposed, that was nice.
Aether had spent all of Dew’s recovery with him, using his quintessence to keep him stable during the whole aftermath, but once Dew had been able to move for himself again, he hadn’t let Aether stay, he couldn’t handle having him in the same room when Dew couldn’t even look at himself in the mirror from disgust. He hated the changes that fire had brought to him, being stripped of the water that had accompanied him his whole life was like taking away his very essence, it felt wrong.
And now, here he was, out of his bedroom for the first time in weeks and sitting among the other ghouls, who looked at him weird, because they hadn’t even met him yet. Then, he heard footsteps from the door, he didn’t need to look to the side to know that it was Aether that was walking in, he dreaded his very existence at that moment. Aether let out a quiet gasp when he saw the now fire ghoul sitting there and walked up to him “Dew?” He asked quietly as he placed a gentle hand on Dew’s shoulder.
Dew looked up at Aether with an expression that could only be described as conflicted. Dew loved the quint, but didn’t want him to see him like this. But, even if Dew had thought about leaving the room, it was too late. Aether was already on his knees in front of him and hugging him, “I missed you, drop…”
Dew had to hold back his tears - that now burnt him - as he gave in and wrapped his arms around Aether too. A few minutes later, they found themselves with Dew sitting on Aether’s lap as he ran his fingers through the shorter’s hair.
“You’re beautiful,” whispered Aether, “just like before.” Dew had a hard time believing that, but after about ten times of hearing some variation of those words, he started believing it.

Dewdrop was bored out of his mind, he had already looked at everything around him in that dang hospital bed while he waited for Perpetua to pick him back up. He had even come up with names for the shades of the colours on the walls and random abstract paintings around him. He had stared at the chart with bones on the wall for long enough, that if they gave him an exam on them, he was confident he would land an excellent on it.
Then, a nurse knocked on the door, “you seem to have a visitor… he has… hors, though?”. “Let them in.” Said Dewdrop, knowing it must be one of the ghouls, too worried to realise that they hadn’t glamoured their horns on their way here.
When the nurse said that, she looked back at the person next to her, who was staring at her expectantly, “you said you’re his… partner?”. “Yes,” said Phantom, “I am.”. The nurse sighed, clearly tired from her shift and done with seeing odd shit. She just signalled to the door and walked away.
Phantom immediately walked in and dragged a chair to sit next to Dew. “How are you? What happened?”. Seeing the worry in the other ghoul’s eyes, softened Dew’s expression a bit, “I fractured my foot, bat, it’s nothing I won’t get through don’t worry.” Now more than ever, Phantom wished that his quintessence wasn’t only the vision sight type, and was the healing one.
Dew ran his fingers through the quint’s hair, knowing fully what was going through their head. “Don’t blame yourself for not being able to heal my leg, bat, it’s okay.” Phantom nodded and leaned into Dew’s touch, “Aether called, turns out Perpetua tried to call Copia about what happened, but he didn’t want to pick up the call, so Aeth did. He wants to know if you’re okay.”
Dew nodded and reached for his phone, we went into his contact list and clicked on Aether’s contact, then videocalled him, once he picked up, Dew could hear a faint “Sapevo che non potevo fidarmi di lui” in the background, knowing it was Copia grumbling about something, he decided to just focus on Aether for now, “Hi Aeth.” He greeted, earning a similar response, “Perp- your new boss called, how is your foot doing?”
“Well, it’s doing better… At least now I know what’s up with it. I have to wear this big ass boot though.” Dew was in pain, but tried to mask it, thankful that it was currently nighttime in the ministry and Aether wasn’t paying as much attention as he normally would. Aether sighed when he heard that, but then Copia came into view, “how are you doing, amore?” He asked. “I’m fine, C, don’t worry.” Dew tried to reassure.
After a few minutes of being on call, Dew turned to look at Phantom after hanging up. The younger ghoul asked, “Now, without lying, how are you feeling. I can tell you’re in pain, Dew.”
Dew sighed, he knew he couldn’t lie to Phantom, so he settled for grabbing his hand, “Well, I’m better now that you’re here.”

Summary: Mushy May Day 4
Dewdrop gets back from tour and Aether takes care of his hair for him.
Fic below the cut or in ao3
@forlorn-crows
It had been six months already, six months in which Dewdrop didn’t have any of his hair-care products with him, and so, when the end of the tour neared, his hair had gone from soft and well-cared to unhealthy.
The night when he got back to the ministry, after all the reunions and having dinner he went back to his and Aether’s shared room and settled down on their nest, Aether sitting behind him right after. Soon, the two men were engaging in their small nightly ritual.
Aether gently threaded his fingers through Dew’s hair as he brushed it carefully. Dew could only lean against Aether and breathe softly as he could finally relish in the feeling again. After getting all the knots and tangles out, Aether started giving Dew a soft scalp massage.
Aether thought about how much he had missed this, having Dewdrop leaning against him, letting all the tension and stress out as Aether carefully took care of his hair for him. Aether couldn’t think of something he looked forward more to than that.
Aether was also thinking about just how damaged Dew’s hair had gotten in those past months. The crappy hotel shampoos and cheap soaps having only done bad to it. He couldn’t wait to get it back to its usual soft and healthy state that he loved so much. The damage felt wrong against his fingers, but that only pushed him to work with it more.
Dewdrop leaned further against Aether, he had missed the feeling of the taller ghoul’s fingers against his scalp, how they would rub small circles against it and get him all calm and sleepy.
A few minutes later, when Aether didn’t have any more product to apply to Dew’s hair, Dewdrop finally allowed himself to fall asleep, right against the taller’s chest, while Aether still threaded his fingers through his hair, only for the sake of it.

Aether was concerned beyond relief. He had been holding onto Dew for satan-knows-how-long, and he couldn’t let go of him. Not even Omega had been able to do so. Dew had been completely unmoving ever since the clergy had performed the elemental transition on him.
Aether’s heart broke every minute that ticked by. He was in his own room, Dew’s getting emptied by some of the other ghouls since no one had hope of the ghoul in his arms recovering. But Aether couldn’t give up, still using his quintessence to keep Dew breathing, not being able even to let go of him for more than two minutes, afraid that even the shortest period of time away from each other would cause Dew to slip away from him.
Then, after weeks, maybe a month, of living like that, Aether felt Dew twitch, the smaller’s arm moved slightly. Aether couldn’t make out if it was actually true or just his mind trying to get him to believe that Dew wouldn’t die. He took Dew’s hand, almost in disbelief, and shed a small tear when he felt a small squeeze on it.
Aether held onto Dew tighter, resting his head on the shorter’s as he tucked Dew’s head into his chest, pushing a bit more of quintessence into him.
Then, it finally happened, Dew opened his eyes, looked up at Aether, who looked down at him after feeling the movement.
Both were silent, but smiled at the realisation that it was finally over, the constant agony and uncertainty had come to an end, and peace was ready to enter their lives again. They could only hold each other at the thought of that.
Thinking about post elemental transition Dewdrop. Things having not gone well, and Aether being stuck to him, using his quintessence for what feels like hours, maybe days, neither of them know.
I will be elaborating further soon in the form of a fic.
