Cloning is also starting to get more common in livestock as well!

My knowledge is mostly from the dairy industry, but different dairy genetics companies have been working on accessible cloning operations for dairy herds for a while now. Clones are pretty much only used for breeding purposes, like if the farmer wants to diversify their herd or has a good animal that isn’t able to reproduce safely. The farmer can then clone that animal that will hopefully be able to pass on those desirable genes.

Like for example, in Guernsey cows there’s a specific gene where the milk they produce only contains the A2 beta-casein protein, making the milk much easier to digest for people with lactose intolerance! It’s still a rare gene, so cloning helps farmers who want to specialize in selling that kind of milk.

From my experience, cloning is treated in the industry as just another tool that breeders can use, like AI, SS, ET, or IVF.

(and if you’re worried about getting weird clone-produce, the milk and meat produced by these animals is not sold anyway 👍)
