M.A.S.H Daemons!!!
Names and Species: Hawkeye - Evelyn (Capuchin monkey) Trapper - Aileen (Irish Wolfhound) BJ - Matilda (Golden retriever) Father Mulcahy - Máiréad (Highland cow) Margaret - Conley (Rooster) Charles - Patricia (Berkshire pig) Klinger - Hani (chukar) Radar - Aishling (Little brown bat) Henry - Winnie (Jackrabbit) Col. Potter - Lorraine (Catahoula Leopard Dog) Sidney - Rivka (Polyphemus moth) Frank - Karen (turkey)
If you’re wondering at all the dogs and farm animals, I imagined that was probably common in the 1940′s when there wasn’t a lot of exposure to more relatively exotic animals (unless you’re Hawkeye who went to the zoo once and had to be special)
If anyone wants to tell me my choices are wrong… don’t. don’t do that. that’s mean.
i love charles sm 😭😭
Just off my most recent M*A*S*H watch through, and as the Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen anniversary was not too long ago, I wanted to do my own little tribute.
Charles and Father Mulcahy are character who are written very differently, but both rely on music (in their own ways) to keep their sanity throughout the war. And in the end, they both lose their connection to it in different ways. After Charles works with the Korean POW musicians on the Mozart quintet (pictured), and they are killed, the safety of his connection to music is shattered, and all he can think about when listening is the violence and bloodshed. This is explicitly addressed in the finale.
However, Father Mulcahy’s loss is not. Yes, they address his going deaf after the explosion, but throughout the entire show he is shown playing the piano, singing, writing war songs. His connection to music is much less emphasized, but it persists through the entire series, and although he may not be a technical prodigy, it brings him joy. And then he loses it, along with the ability to take confessions, and a number of other facets of his job and life that gave him meaning and brought him comfort. Earlier in the show, during a particularly difficult moment, he is consoled by his colleagues performing Dona Nobis Pacem (also pictured). After he loses his hearing, he begins to question God. “Are you Deaf too?” I think this shaken faith and may have festered into an anger that contributed to his problems after the war (he was shown struggling in AfterMASH).
Anyways! Enjoy my angst fest (also I am VERY open to requests, especially for this show rn)

It wasn't invited, really. It was more like, "Come live with me and be my love and we will all the pleasures prove."
Good heavens. That is me.

Imagining Charles Emerson Winchester III, so small he hasn't even started growing into that name yet, walking past his younger brother's empty bedroom, wanting to put a name to the fear he feels but not having the words for it. Picturing him noticing the differences between three and two. Never talking about it but never forgetting either, telling himself that Honoria was too young to remember the way he does. Wondering if when he applies to medical school years later, he remembers the fear and hopes he'll finally have the words for it.
i got that ditch your bitch tell her i’m coming over (credit to @tallsinspace for giving me the song)
As I lay in bed sick and dream of bred I'm not allowed to make cause I might cough on it, today on MASH quotes that hit me in feels:
This is from Charles Emerson Winchester III
Charles joined early in season six, replacing Major Burns, who was a stuck up, all American asshole. Major Burns served as a reoccurring "antagonist" or target for the shows pranks, and to some degree so did Charles. Unlike Burns, however, Charles proved himself to not only be a competent surgeon but to hold real character
There are a lot of things he's said which blend the line between heartwarming and saddening, when he is not busy being an elite snob, but the one that's really striking me into the feels is:
---Charles Emerson Winchester III, from an episode I could not find the name of in my quick search
Any any I'm gonna rewatch MASH

Operation Friendship, S9E10 • Charles Emerson Winchester III
Autumn in New England Korea
Gift Art for @stxrmcloud as part of @cuddleswinchester's holiday exchange!
Partially inspired by the Fall in Korea theme in his fic As the Night Changes and partly by the autumn leaf scene in 9x02 Letters.
Outfit from 8x12 Dear Uncle Abdul.
The brush pattern is custom made from the leaf (be it maple, birch, or otherwise) sent by the Crabapple Cove fourth-grader in Letters - stencil below in case anyone else wants it. (also what a coincidence that stxrmcloud's own gift work was Letters! 😆)
Poor Charles! I imagine that in reality the leaves around him are all shapes and sizes of native Korean flora - but out of homesickness he superimposes the image of that one slice of home onto every single leaf. Wrapped in his civilian coat and hat, he can almost imagine himself in more familiar woods.
I can’t actually put into words why I love him as much as I do.
Hi, could you do a Charles Emerson Winchester III (mash) x reader playlist??? thank you!!!!

Requested by @remyfire on Discord: Charles seeing his first Korea Fall :) Charles/Leonidas (OC) - As the Night Changes
After a long day in Post-Op, Leonidas is finally released from his nursing duties around 1900. He stretches his arms over his head, groaning a bit as his hip pops. 23 years old and yet he swears he's pushing 40. Leaves fall around him as he walks back to the Swamp with his hands in his pockets, and Leonidas smiles. This is his second Fall of Korea and it's just as beautiful as the first. When he gets closer to the Swamp, he sees Charles standing just outside the door with his eyes trained on the trees at the edge of the 4077th.
"Pretty, ain't it?" Leonidas asks, stepping up to Charles's side and pulling out a cigarette. Charles stays silent, something Leonidas wasn't expecting. He's used to Charles snipping at him about the dangers of using cigarettes, not staying quiet. "Major?" He tries.
"Oh!" Charles's title seems to snap him out of whatever trance he was in. "Pardon me, Mylonas.. I did not expect to see you out of Post-Op so soon." He slips back into his usual uptight persona, almost like the little vulnerability he showed wasn't there to begin with.
"You can call me Leonidas, Major. You know that, right?" Leonidas asks. he finds his lighter and lights his cigarette aflame, taking a drag as he puts the lighter away. "It's beautiful, you know.. Never seen anything like it." And he was telling the truth. The fall leaves in Boston, or even Piraeus, were nothing compared to the beauty of the Korean Fall.
"I never expected a place like this to be so.. colorful." Charles says quietly. He's letting his vulnerability show again and Leonidas swears his own heart skips a beat. A leaf falls in front of Leonidas and he takes it in his hand, feeling the texture. He hands it over to Charles, smiling.
"Just wait until tomorrow, Major." He says. "This place will be littered with beautiful leaves and white flowers." Charles just stares at the leaf in his hand while Leonidas puffs on his cigarette. 'Maybe..' Charles thinks, looking over at Leonidas with a small blush on his ears. 'Maybe Korea isn't so bad..'
have some more pics of winchester
Winchester’s got the hot hand, huh? He should. He’s wearing all our gloves.
