It was reassuring, seeing the redhead up and moving. Granted, the young man probably shouldn’t have scaled the temple given his currently shaky health. Adlet was quite the lucky bastard—hardier than the ASSASSIN would have given him credit for at first glance. Then again, he’d undergone an apprenticeship under Atro Spiker, and he was the only pupil who’d managed to complete the fiend hunter’s rigorous training. That alone said a number about his abilities.
His luck was also something to be admired. Had the catlike man shown up even a moment later, it was quite likely that they would have come to the wrong conclusion and killed one of their own rather than the IMPOSTER. Good thing he and Chamo seemed to get along alright when push came to shove.
Hans chuckled at the redhead’s comment. ❝ I’ve found that’s true, nyaa~ It’s a trait I do my best to live up to, ❞ he added, head tilting as he watched the other settle onto the temple’s roof.
It was ironic, the two of them resting here, side by side. This was where the assassin had first ambushed the young man, their battle intensifying as Adlet did his best to convince the other of his innocence. However, Hans preferred to let their CLASHING BLADES do the talking, and that was something the redhead had eventually caught onto. ( What a terrifyingly wonderful opponent Adlet had turned out to be! No one had ever had an opening in which to kill Hans—it had taken him by surprise, and the assassin could feel himself itching for a proper rematch someday… )
❝ S’not an easy trick to learn, nyaa~ ❞ Hans teased, a catlike smile pulling at his lips. ❝ Maneuvering midair isn’t simple. ❞ Adlet could probably figure it out though. He’d already shown PROMISE for such a skill. He might not have been as flexible or acrobatic as the assassin, but he had no doubt the other man could manage.
As though he was sharing a secret, Hans placed a single finger to his own lips while grinning teasingly, ❝ Having a tail helps, though. ❞ ( Not that there were many enchanted items in the form a tail out there. The assassin simply happened to have some rather… special connections. )
Life was full of twists and turns – honestly, never in a million years would he have guessed that one of his companions would end up being an assassin. Nor would he have guessed that one of the obvious choices for one of them would end up being an imposture.
( An ASSASSIN was one of the properly chosen BRAVES && yet the warrior/SAINT had been their traitor. )
L u c k really was on his side. If he had followed through with some of his initial decisions – he might have ended up trying to side with the PRINCESS, as she’d been one of his original companions. However, her behavior had lead her to a small amount of suspicion. And also: Hans had seemed like a safe bet. He had the most unusual title out of the lot of them, he wasn’t renown or well known. Well, not to most. Infamous, maybe. But one wouldn’t likely be the traitor when you already had the most suspicious title…
“What other traits do you live up to?” Adlet finds himself asking, a laugh on his lips. He couldn’t help himself – having watched Hans battle, and even being an opponent of his himself, he was fascinated with how the man moved. Frankly speaking, he was a NATURAL genius of b a t t l e. One might even be able to mistake him as a WAR GOD with the ferocity in his eyes. “I know I can list a few… I mean, you’re sneaky, you always land on your feet… I suspect that you have nine lives.” He was literally counting them out on his fingers, and though that last one was a joke, he also wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. “How about your hearing and eye-sight? Are they like a cats?”
I mean, he had cat-like eyes, so it was a fair question, right?
Adlet laughs a little though at the others comment. Yeah, that was true enough. Midair maneuvers were incredibly difficult, but? Having watched him a little – he’d come up with a bit of a battle plan. Just in case: ( maybe it wasn’t the best idea – but minor explosions would have similar results, in changing trajectory. ) “Yeah, that seems to be a Hans specific trademarked technique.” He laughs, smiling at the other – though? When the older male mentions his tail, Adlet couldn’t help but shift his molten-colored eyes to look at it. It really was a fascinating tool. As a craftsman, he couldn’t even begin to imagine how it was made.
To create a large CAT-LIKE tail, the materials would be complicated – it didn’t appear to be DEAD/STIFF, so he was fairly certain it couldn’t have come from a living creature. And yet, what would go into making something as flexible and twitchy as a real cats’ tail? It could be a very complex machine / device, or? It could come down to the enchantment and likely, whichever SAINT had blessed it.
Honestly – these were the sort of thoughts that got him puzzled. As the STRONGEST MAN in the WORLD, and a CRAFTSMAN of weapons – it was really easy to lose him to these sort of thoughts. In fact, he was so puzzled by it… now that attention had been pointed its way? That he entirely forgets to say anything back. Adlet is a potato.

Feeling the change in movement that indicated he was now taking cover, Isanami decided to carefully slid a fraction of her eyes open. Once she saw that there was nothing to endanger her vision, she opened her eyes fully in order to gaze upon her savior. Her kind BENEFACTOR. When Adlet asks if she’d like to wear a poncho, she nods without hesitation. Anything that he would give her she’d accept. ❛ Yes. ❜ Still, vocalizing her answer serves as just added assurance. Despite how grateful she was, she wanted to keep communication between them as clear as possible.
And he agrees with her own wishes as well, to not kill anyone… ah, this could only be fate indeed! She smiles warmly, sitting away from his arm a little… but that’s only so she can EMBRACE it in her next movement. Hugging his arm and pulling him closer to her, giggling like any girl her age should in a normal situation. Yet this situation was certainly not “normal” by any standard; at least, it was doubtful that any teenager girl’s dream was to be chased in dark forests by scary ninjas. Oh! But being saved and protected by a man, that was surely every girl’s dream! Isanami was told some stories similar to that by the head priest. Could it be that right now, she was the princess and Adlet was her knight in shining poncho?
❛ Okay! ❜ She says, nodding in affirmation when he explains his plan. ❛ They’d never think that we were behind them. I like that idea! You’re amazing, ne~ ❜ Her own attitude beginning to brighten in light of her newly PROTECTED position, she moves a little in surprise when he hands out the heat pad to her. ❛ Oh! I’ll take it, but I think you’re much warmer, Adlet. ❜ She lets go of his arm a bit begrudgingly, but because he had taken the time to give her something like that, she wanted to use it to make him happier.
She holds the heat pad carefully, but after a few moments she found that her sleeves were blocking some of the heat. Therefore, while listening to Adlet detail the rest of his plan, she decides to pull her sleeves back so her hands could grab the pad. It was dark in the cave, but even with the little MOONLIGHT that slipped in, she could see her hands. Those marks. Panicking, Isanami pulls her sleeves back down immediately and grasps the heat pad closer to her body. ❛ O-Oh, a week? That’s okay. I don’t want to be in a rush… ❜
Isanami grins at his conviction, his PROMISE to her that he would get her to Ueda without a doubt. Her earlier distress forgotten, she nods and plops herself back next to him. ❛ Ueda… I wonder what it’s like. I’ll believe in you though, Adlet. I’m sure there’ll be nothing but good things now that you’re with me, ne~ ❜
To say that he wasn’t expecting this mission would be the understatement of the year. Honestly, Adlet had simply been traveling when all this started – however? As the “STRONGEST MAN in the WOLRD,” Adlet felt it was his responsibility to help those who come to him with trouble. Perhaps that was silly, but? After how helpless he’d felt as a child? He couldn’t possibly overlook anyone who needed help.
Especially someone as genuine as this young priestess. She was kind and earnest. She surely didn’t deserve to be hounded by those cruel shinobi…
“It’s the best way to go without having to risk too many battles.” He comments, smiling proudly. To be honest, it worked better that way – he didn’t want to kill anyone and she didn’t want anyone killed. ( What an ODD duo they made, and yet? How perfect? ) It was good they AGREED on such big subjects. Though, when she clung to him for a big, he just grins and pats the top of her head very carefully. Attempting to reassure her.
He wouldn’t say it, but he thought the way she was acting was very sweet – childlike, almost, but very sweet. Honestly, they’d known each other for only a few hours, but he could feel a fierce protectiveness beginning to form. Perhaps it was because he was just one of those types of warriors. He bonded strongly with those he attempted to help, regardless. But she was very sweet. And he was very glad that she seemed to be warming up to him as well.
“Glad I can help.” Adlet chuckles back when she says that she thought he was warm. It was good – after all, weather could be a little unpredictable. Worse comes to worse, they could stay near each other for warmth.
“If you need to get there faster, we could wait here for about… two days, and then rush a route that would bring us around the path we’d normally take. I know a few shortcuts through the area, but they’re a little risky.” He explains – he wouldn’t alter that they should wait for a bit. It was best for the enemies to pass them by a long shot before they risk anything too tricky. But? He’d let her make the call about how fast they should get going. After all: She’d know her own endurance level better then he would. With that, he pulls the map more into their vision again. He would show her what he meant – and it was because of this? That he was too distracted to see what she was fiddling with her sleeves for. “If we wait for a day or two, they’ll overshoot us. They seem to know that you’re heading this way – towards Ueda.” He traces the straight path there, being shinobi? He doubted they’d take anything but the direct path. “So, if we need to get there sooner? I’d recommend we go a little this way…” With that, he puts his finger back towards their hiding spot, before tracing a line out towards a river. “It’s a little more… crazy. Terrane wise. But? I doubt they’d think we’d head towards a more open area like this, and? It would still lead us straight into Ueda. I’d say… five or four days. Depending on the weather and how face you’re willing to go.”
However, with her other question in mind – he stops to think for a bit. What was Ueda like? He was trying to head there on business, but he hadn’t actually been there before. “I hear it’s a prosperous little area. The Lord is apparently a… interesting fellow. Not bad, but not… average? At least that’s what rumors say.” He comments, laughing a little. “And I believe that nothing but good will come our way too~ Good luck is an important part of being the Strongest Man in the World.”
This is his canon timeline verse ; Adlet, having been chosen to be one of the “Braves” has begun his travels to help his fellow “braves” seal the Majin. He has one of the “Crests of the Six Flowers,” resting on the back of his dominant hand. In this verse, there is a lot of confusion - after all: despite being honored to be chosen, and being the “strongest man in the world,” his words not mine, … there are too many braves. Never have so many been chosen. So? There must be a traitor … or a liar. A lot of this verse is Adlet trying to pull the team together, and trying to work alongside of each other, while trying to figure out who the traitor could possibly be.
A master of “trick weapons,” Adlet Mayer finds himself often called upon by those seeking weapons and such - He doesn’t sell to just anyone. His weapons are his passion, and he won’t have them used to back a person or group he doesn’t agree with. So? For the most part, he is a traveling merchant … Forever looking for new things to make his weapons with, and continuing to smith and forge what has got to be some of the most unique weapons in the country at this time.
A traveler with little in mind for a goal - he travels the lands to try to learn things a little more first hand. Something that had been recommended to him by his teacher, the man who taught him to fight, and to build. Now? He is doing just that. Traveling the countryside, traveling from city to city, to figure out things for himself. Learning more about local and foreign plants, poisons, antidotes, weapons - and becoming something of a craftsman in the process. He considers himself something of a traveling gentleman, however. So? If approached with an issue? He’ll do what he can to help those in need.
… which is probably why he is always suffering from lack of funds.
All he’d ever wanted in the world … was to be chosen as one of the Brave’s. To be given the chance to prove himself, to make up for what happened, to save people like he was once unable to. All he’d ever wanted was to be a hero. To prove that he didn’t have to be a prodigy or naturally talented to become a hero. And? He fought and trained every day, proving himself again and again with tricks, weapons, and everything in the book, to do so. And yet? Here he was - Here was everything he’d ever dreamed off, and? He hadn’t been chosen. He hadn’t accomplished anything. And? If he couldn’t accomplish his dream, if he couldn’t be chosen on the grounds that he wasn’t “good enough,” he’d damned well prove them wrong. The Goddess choose poorly. And he would prove it. Even if it meant slaughtering those she had chosen.
