So you know when you have done something for such a long time and when you learn you’ve been doing it wrong and you still do it the wrong way out of habit because that’s me with Ikol’s voice from Amulet.
So what I meant by this is when I read the series for the first time, I gave the characters a distinct voice in my head when I read their dialogue. For example, for Vigo I imagined him to have a voice like uncle Iroh but deeper as if he does not care to hide the fact that he has seen some bad shit. For Emily I gave her a stern almost monotone feminine voice that brightened whenever she gave a snarky remark. With the voice, I thought Ikol was a girl for some reason . So because of that I imagined ‘she’ had a soft and deep voice that sounded like a mix of a mother telling their child a horrifying story like it was a lullaby and a woman trying to hypnotize you.
So the surprise I felt when I learned Ikol was a boy was…something. In the end I just kept reading Ikol’s dialogue in the voice I had for him originally because after imagining the voice I already created for him for months and getting rid of it was too much work for younger me.
