I haven’t talked about this but I need to:

So, I played BG3 when it was in pre-release for Mac, and I wasn’t very well-versed in all the characters. I was only aware of the four main (Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart and Lae’zel). I don’t even know if Karlach was around when I first started playing.

But when it fully re-leased and I could play it for real, I decided to just recreate my pre-release Tav for my full game…

Y’know.

Who, I originally drew as having one horn half chipped off.

Y’know.

Exactly like Karlach?

And then when I encountered Karlach and realised, oh damn, she’d be fun to date?

I couldn’t.

Because I travel with my most important people and having two barbarian teiflings seemed like a waste.

So, I had to silently suffer as I made it through the acts, and ended up making an entire new character with the same actions as my original, just to seduce Karlach and have her on my team.

i can’t exactly put my finger on it but Karlach is so Abby Anderson coded, they’re both such cuties i love them. i feel like they have similar energy

I feel like this was only briefly touched by a few people a couple months ago but it lives rent free in my head so now I need to spill.

Baldur's gate companions but make them self aware.

Dnd is already a game on crack and bg3 is probably no exception.

In game there already some lines that are vaguely 4th wall breaking, the first one is obviously with Karlach who we so far know has a scene where she asks questions about her, us, and the game. And sometimes you might be able to catch some characters finish talking only to then look over towards the camera, *cough, cough, Astarion, Raphael, cough*.

So many options to choose as to HOW they got the self-awareness is probably a goldmine for writers

The tadpoles is the first that comes to mind. Mindflayers travel between planes of reality as is, so I don't doubt that the little hitchhiker in their heads could tell if some plane shifting is going on with Tav.

My personal favorite, Save Scuming. In a game with literally a hundred hours or more of content were you are actively encouraged to replay it different ways. I would not be shocked that over the course of the hundreds of saves you reloaded because the dice didn't roll in your favor or new campaigns you started that eventually all the pieces start clicking into place for some of the companions.

Honestly there could be more but I'm drawing blanks of ideas but I might be tempted to write about the self-aware from constantly saving because that seems like fun.

We’re fighting Ketheric Thorm and no one is taking it seriously.

I absolutely love my Tav and Astarion. They just so yes.

My Tav is a druid and a wood elf. He’s the sweetest boy on the planet. He always does whats right, but isn’t afraid to make a sarcastic comment to someone who pisses him off. He’s just trying to be a genuinely good guy.

While Astarion hates Tav thinks there’s always room at the camp, he can’t help but be amused when Tav slings shit in the goblins’ faces because they were being assholes. Or when he tells Absolute followers to get stuffed cause he doesn’t have the patience for them.

Did he think that the twink treehugger he tackled when they first met and held a knife to his throat would be ever so understanding and sympathetic with him being a vampire? Did he expect that Tav would be patient, and affectionate in a way that didn’t matter if it was romantic or platonic? Of course not. But he’s happy it happened.

Poor Tav didn’t mean to even romance Astarion but when he found out how Astarion felt? Hoo BOY did it make that poor demisexual have some gay panic.

And the best part about them is it doesn’t matter if their relationship is romantic or platonic. They love and care for each other. They’re sassy and just love eachother’s company, no matter what.

Oh yeah; and they like to let Karlach in on them making fun of Cultists and collectively going “oh, let’s smite this bitch.”

Guys I made another modern au mini comic, but this time traditionally

My Bg3 Modern Au Head-cannons

Meadow (my Tav): She’s trying to figure life out, she’s working at a flower store until her music gets off the ground

Wyll: Dance/Aerobics instructor, his dad wanted him to be a politician. He also does community theater and musicals in his free time

Karlach: 100% rides a motorcycle, Does peircings at a tattoo parlor, and is on a women’s rugby team

Shadowheart: Meadow’s concert buddy, and she works at a doggy day care

Lae’zel: she’s a bartender (because that would be funny) and is on the same Rugby team as Karlach. I can also see her as a martial arts instructor

Gale: He’s still a magic teacher at a magic academy. And I think it would be funny if he showed off his book collection on social media, like his actor in real life

Astarion: He went to law school, but then he was turned into a vampire, now he lives in Meadow’s attic while he figures things out. He embroiders in all his free time.

Halsin: He’s a social worker, definitely not based off this one fan comic series I read. And he volunteers at the Humane society and orphanage in his free time. I’m not sure I’ll do this, but I can see him fostering kids
