Being a pro censorship ao3 user is so insanely cringe. Either use the (incredibly effective and well designed) filtering system to avoid seeing the shit you don't like or stop complaining. Leave the pro censorship rhetoric to Wattpad or smth
But Tooru had to, somehow, have the bad luck of attracting the soul-searching eyes of pretty Ushijima Wakatoshi with his taciturn nature, dry wit and soothing quiet; an ass of epic proportions simply because Tooru cannot figure out for the life of him, how a Wizard of Ushiwaka’s stand can be so terribly unimaginative and dull.
It’s off-putting to say the least and if Tooru hates anything then it’s a) people who are better than him and b) especially if they have nothing that makes them stand out from an average crowd of Wizards in The Consortium.
Traits which unfortunately also apply to Ushijima Wakatoshi.
It’s one of the reasons he doesn’t quite know what to do with Satori.
Aside from the fact that Tooru is pretty certain that he shouldn’t be caught dead with the redhead who has been excised from The Consortium at thirteen, he knows that was Satori has is special.
Tooru doesn’t know what it is, but it’s…
It has bite.
It has teeth.
There’s a prickle of something metallic and acidulously dangerous at the back of Tooru’s tongue every time he gets to witness Satori’s Magic up close and personal.
Most days, thinking about Satori makes him angry.
I get that there are ships I would not consider writing or reading and I get that there are ships and dynamics that I, personally, would consider toxic but I also recognize that I am not forced to engage in those kinds of ships/dynamics, that is what filters are for, and other people might enjoy it!
However, I can not articulate that well enough in dialogue - written or spoken - which, in turn, makes me a petty asshole who will vague-post about this on the one hand and petty-spam on the other hand.
You want people to agree with you that these relationships are toxic?
Guess what, buddy.
That's all the content I'm gonna post.
(I also recognize that this is not the most mature of solutions. Hence the title.)
Should you find yourself in a situation of considering a ship toxic, filter it, ao3 and tumblr and, as I understand it, most platforms give you the ability to.
Should you be triggered by certain events that might occur in a fanfiction, you can filter.
You do not have to read it.
No one can make you click that link and read that story with your very own eyes.
Screen-readers will read tags to you (hi, this is why it's important to know how to tag, y'all, btw).
You don't like it?
Don't read it.
fanfic writers are so fucking awesome man. they write novel length fics that are sometimes even better than some published bestselling books written by professional writers. like fanfic writers are professional writers to me and they gift us their masterpieces for free. they give us something we can look forward to after a long day. something from which we can seek comfort when life is hard. something that can be our own little getaway. in a world of capitalism, despite everything, they give us all of these for free. like holy fuck. shout out to every fanfic writer. I wish all fanfic writers a very ‘I love you with all my heart and soul. I thank you from the bottom of my heart’
“Alright, Princess,” he mutters, when he finally feels the first tendrils of The Hive reaching for him and his eyes alight on the red-yellow sign of one of their street-level eateries.
He shifts her so she can burrow deeper into his hold. “If you ever had any fleas, the river drowned them good and I don’t have to be disappointed that a life on the street made it hard for you to uphold your royal standards.”
A wet, cold, nose presses against his collarbone in response and Satori feels it when she tucks herself carefully into the space he gives her. A warm, gentle weight pressing right against the beat of his soft, dumb, heart- already nine-tenths in love with her.
no time spent writing fanfic is ever wasted
[tl;dr]
the universe does not revolve around you. now repeat after me: don't like don't read. no one forces you to continue reading a fic you don't like. quietly leave instead of being rude to authors who write for free because writing is their source of comfort.
heard someone say archive of our own should install a "dislike" button and I thought I should say this: no, there's absolutely no need for archive of our own to install a "dislike" button.
why? because archive of our own isn't tiktok or youtube or twitter/x where users can monetize their content. archive of our own is a nonprofit site run by fans for fans, which means every content — every fanfic — you see on archive of our own was made out of pure love and passion from the artists/authors.
ao3 authors write because writing about these characters is their happiness and passion. they write for themselves, but they were generous enough to share with you their creations.
they're not "content creators" the way tiktokers or youtubers or instagram models are. they don't "make content" for views and engagements that can be monetized.
so no, you don't get to "grade their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "say what you dislike about their works" unless they specifically and directly ask you to.
you don't get to "dislike" works that are not made specifically to please you in the first place. you're just a guest in someone's house, a house in which they let you in because they were kind, you don't get to roam around their house and say what you dislike about their furniture. you don't get to roam around their house and say you "dislike their house".
of course, you can have your opinion about the house its host invites you in. but if it's a negative one and you find yourself not liking the house, the polite things for you to do is excuse yourself and leave without telling them you dislike their house.
and just because you personally dislike the house doesn't mean the house is "ugly" either. the house you dislike could be a favorite, most luxurious place to many others.
my point is, don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that you get to enjoy for free. don't be entitled by wanting the rights to voice your disapproval of things that were made out of love and passion — things the artists made for themselves for fun.
it makes you look like an entitled jerk with main character syndrome. the universe does not revolve around you.
now repeat after me: don't like don't read. no one forces you to continue reading a fic you don't like. quietly leave instead of being rude to authors who write for free because writing is their source of comfort.
people are so used to contents that were made because it's a trend / contents like tiktok that were made with the main purpose of reaching high engagement and making profits that they forget sometimes things can be made out of love and be made just for fun. sometimes things are supposed to just be for people to enjoy, and if some people don't enjoy them, then they can simply leave without being unnecessary unkind.
WHO GOT CAUGHT UP IN A PROMPT AND IS NOW BATTLING A 35-PAGE DRAFT THAT STILL ISN'T FINISHED?!?!?

Sirius might have hated Remus – but it was Remus who he hated.
Sirius might have hated Remus – but it was Remus who he kissed, whose name he gasped in his mouth when he felt so good he couldn't help it. Remus had never heard a more intoxicating sound.
New chapter:
Yea let’s ignore how inactive I’ve been on tumblr lol, but feel free to check the fic out x
"'Was this…" Remus repeated, fingers pushing the fabric to the side and brushing the exposed collarbone, the sore spot where a purple bruise had started to bloom on porcelain skin. “A mistake?” He put his fingers on it, slightly applying pressure, and Sirius had to bite his tongue to repress the sigh that threatened to come out of his throat. It wasn’t a mistake, he wanted to say, he wanted to say so badly. The words already started to form on his tongue-"
new chapter out:
lets ignore that its been 6 weeks, i moved to spain so lifes been kinda busy lol
"Does it scare you? The thought of being your unapologetic self? Living without the shame of being attracted to men? Of wanting me? Of kissing me again? Are you that much of a bloody coward-”
Sirius couldn’t bear it anymore. He made an animalistic sound in the back of his throat, the heat swallowing him whole, crossing every boundary he’d set for himself, and before he knew it, he’d yanked the pirate towards him and kissed him, because he needed him to shut up and, oh - oh.
- new chapter out xx fic: The Serpent and the Viper
a sneak peek into the new chapter im working on hehe:
Kissing Remus wasn’t gentle. It was teeth and tongue, filled with desperation and hunger for something impossible. Sirius’ breath hitched when Remus bit into his bottom lip, almost drawing blood. “We-” he tried in the short moment they used to catch their breaths, “we shouldn’t-”.
Remus stopped. He kept Sirius in place, one hand on his neck, lips just a breath away from touching. “You're right,” he rasped, and when he looked up at Sirius, his pupils were dilated. “but I’ve always had a taste for the forbidden.”
Ok but what if Remus was a pirate and stole noble Sirius' most valuable possession... So Sirius goes to hunt him down... But then they fall in love
fic: The Serpent and the Viper on Ao3
Hello! If you like dead gay wizards from the 70s, this is for you: I'm the author of "The Serpent and the Viper" on Ao3, a fic centering noble Sirius and pirate Remus. It's an enemies to lovers (and I mean that, because they HATE each other), with lots of tension, hurt and comfort and a deep dive into Sirius' inner struggles. I update every 3-5 weeks and go by whiskeyinamug there too. I'm new to tumblr so I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, but if you wanna support a smaller author of the fandom and read a marauders pirate AU, it'd mean a lot if you checked it out! xx

Find the fic here.
HAIIIIII, Guys let me know what type of fanfiction you guys would like to read, I might share my AO3 if I start to write some stuff down.
I've been meaning to write some shit down but I got no clue what to write, so lmk. :3
reposting this to let ya'll know that since ao3 is based in the US if this bill passes and ao3 gets banned you will not be able to access it regardless of where you live
ao3 is facing a ddos attack from an overseas right-wing anonymous group because it contains "degeneracy and disgusting things like LGBT and NSFW".
they're not the only right-wing group that is attacking fanfiction sites because of queer & nsfw content. the Heritage foundation, the US right wing think tank that writes laws for republicans, wrote an article about how "big tech turns kids trans" in which they're advocating for the Kid's Online Safety Act to pass because it will give state attorney generals power to sue websites for "potentially harmful content towards minors". in this article they point out websites like wattpad, tumblr, tiktok, twitter as sites that GOP attorney generals can and will target for censorship if this bill passes. all places where fandom, that's mostly queer, hangs out.
if you think this bill has no chance of passing because of all the red flags it poses, think again. it currently has 38 cosponsors in the senate, and is being pushed by the democrats as a "protecting the children!!" type bill.
there are left-aligned orgs in congress rn lobbying for this bill to pass. july is extremely decisive, because if KOSA goes through to markup it'll be bundled with the Earn It act, Restrict, and all the other bad internet bills and passed as a package, completely censoring the internet forever.
if you want to learn more about the bill, go here. also sign the open letter against it here
it's ESSENTIAL that you call your members of congress, specifically Maria Cantwell (you can call from out of state) and tell them DO NOT PASS KOSA. this site here connects you to your members of congress and gives you a short simple script to read off of! super easy and doesn't take much out of your day! please do this now!!
regulus black was not shy, don't get me wrong, he didn't like people, and he was introverted, but he wasn't shy. He was his parents' perfect child, which means he knew how to talk to people. he knew how to talk about topics he knew nothing about for hours. He was good at finding out I formation about people through simple conversations and very good a saying the right time. He was not easy to manipulate or weak. He lied easily, mastered occlumency young, and was good at manipulating others. He could act well and knew exactly what to say and do to get people to think and do whatever he wanted. He was always better at it than sirius. Regardless of their age or their status, people knew that regulus was better at people.
jegulus raising harry is cute but let's be honest jegulus gives off major girl dad vibes
the insane amount of unread ao3 tabs I have open 24/7 are coming in clutch right now
ao3 is down on Friday the 13th when I'm stuck on a trip with my family. I'm going insane
My friend, after I showed them a fanfiction deeply rooted into my soul: I just cried so hard I threw up and you’re telling me you read this for enjoyment?
Me: I read fics like “A wolf’s heart by mizdiz” for breakfast and the entirety of “Kill your darlings by Messermoon” as a bedtime story, wimp.
(I say as tears run down my cheeks and I curl into a bawl in centre of the pit of darkness I call a bedroom)
Wattpad and Webtoon are in a relationship.
Then, they became parents and had ao3 (archive of our own).
But then, Webtoon cheated on Wattpad with Duolingo (because Duo had a huge glow up) so Wattpad decided to take revenge on her lover and cheated with her exe Twitter/X. (they broke up because X was toxic obviously)
While the parents have a rather complicated relationship BUT still working out somehow, their kid found joy in dating Tumblr.
I'm telling you chat, grandma naver is enjoying the drama!!!
I'm waiting till it's dark outside, my motivations is like a vampire 🍷
I was a bit shy at first because yep that's kinda embarrassing to leave a comment but I realised the depression when you post something and no-one shows appreciation ( TДT) So I now leave kudos and a comment on the most cringe or filthy fic I read every time ✨
I make a post about how smut writers shouldn't be discouraged if their smut has a low hits to kudos ratio, because people are just afraid to kudos smut.
I get told in response that AKTUALLY smut has a low kudos to hits ratio because people are re-reading that smut.
I make a post about how if you're re-reading a fic a lot you should tell the author because they won't know that and will think no one likes their fic.
I get told that authors should just ASSUME that it's re-reads without needing to be told.
I post a smut fic that gets 100+ hits in its first 24 hours of posting (therefor no re-reads counted) and this smut fic with 100+ hits gets zero kudos.
I make a post about how if you read a fic on AO3 it creates a 'hit' and if the author gets a lot of hits without kudos or comments or response, the author will assume no one liked their fic.
I get told that authors should just ASSUME that everyone who clicks their fic likes it, without needing to be told that.
I make a post reminding people that fanfiction authors are not mind readers and that there's no way for them to tell a hit from a person who clicked a fic by mistake, or hated the fic, from a hit from a person who liked it, and if you don't tell the author you liked their fic they will assume you didn't.
I get told that authors aren't entitled to comments or kudos, or to a certain ratio of kudos to hits.
NO SHIT.
But if they don't get comments or kudos, they're gonna assume ya'll didn't like the fic!
