honestly teddy you should feel honoured i would love to be talked at by alice
oh alice my love
she went back
even though she was terrified and overwhelmed and ran away at first, alice went back
hm i'd like to see alice ignore / play down that little incident ... on the other hand i think aggressive avoidance is a lovely coping mechanism so
great it's pick your stalker: old aristocrat lady, drowning people or the ever beloved mr. murderpuppet wtf
i love alice
she really said i can be jealous of BOTH of you bitches
if that's not key bisexual culture i don't know what is
oh alice i love you so much
even low key jealous shes funny as fuck
NO PLEASE HAVE MERCY
My friend: “are Alice and Gwen.. like.. a thing?” Me: hysterical laughing “no” “they hate each other” my friend: “then WHAT is this doomed by the narrative Yuri enemies to lovers i keep seeing?!”
OK! So this weeks episode was crazy! First of all we all already know that the computers are communicating with the OIAR staff but this episode basically confirms it and add to the fact that Alice is aware of it and is deliberately trying to make sure that Sam doesn’t hear any of the Magnus institute related statements is really suspicious, like what are you trying to hide Alice? But also did anyone notice that what they were describing in this episode sounds similar to what happened during the eye-pocalypse in the Magnus Archives. There are so many things in this episodes statement that relate to season five of TMA it’s crazy! Like the dome reminds me of the panopticon and how it’s going to be their base of operation for the experiment. And how the “balance of energies involved will be profoundly skewed towards the fearful and despairing” like what! It’s the eye- pocalypse all over again.
And the fact that [ERROR] saved Gwen from Ink5oul? Who is this person??
Also the tape recorders can bite people!? They are now sentient creatures?! This episode was wack!
Perfect drowning material
Ohhhhh good take. I have this sinking feeling that Alice is the meta canary overall, and when she stops fucking around the plot will go full dark mode. Or she'll go batshit for real.
I'm a bit late but I love how Alice was Sam's canary in the latest episode. She acted as a constant reminder of the danger present and reigned him in when things were getting too dangerous. But she also didn't fully squash his hopes.
I wonder if/when she's gonna completely stop singing. (Or Sam stops listening)
TMAGP 8 NOTES
SPOILERS BELOW
SERIOUSLY THESE ARE HOT FRESH SPOILERS
Statement:
Felt like a classic MAG episode. Reminiscent of the lonely, but felt more like a hunger for company that was reflected and warped.
Also, liminal spaces. Lots of em.
The thin people are reminiscent of MAG 156 Reflection.
Characters!
ALSO WHAT THE FUCK "GIGI???"
GIGI AND GERRY
Bruh
I'm delighted
I'm horrified
I'm so scared
"my grandson?"
Looks like he dodged the brain cancer bullet this time. Gigi dodged the... literal bullet.
Maybe Gertrude gets a cackle this time?
Also, if Gerry doesn't remember anything, maybe they brain wiped him and that's why he's like that. Or, the change of personality is irrelevant.
Sam
Investigating the Magnus Institute still, and confirming that he participated in their "gifted kids programs."
Celia
Celia??? Weird physics???? Time travel?? Oh my holy fuck
Georgie's podcast too. Could it be crossing the gap btwn worlds?
Alice & Gwen
Obvious tension on the job change. Alice seems like she wants to leave, but also like she's morose over Sam leaving with Celia. I really feel like she's hyper jealous, hope she doesn't get chopped up or something for leaving. Bc who's heard from Teddy?
Note: Colin's on mental health leave. Doesn't sound like he hurt Sam? Just the phone.
The fact that TMAGP begins with boot up noises -- and it's implied that Teddy turned off his computer but it turned itself back on -- establishes that we're listening from the same vantage point as whatever's in that machine. Or the system at large.
So the pub conversation is what confuses me. Is whatever's in the OIAR system on Alice's phone? She would DEFINITELY ignore regulations around not connecting personal devices to the network/etc. But is it following her intentionally, or did it just get on there? You hear camera noises while Sam talks to Colin, so it feels intentional. Malicious or beneficent, though...
The transcripts also say that Norris's and Chester's readings occurs in "CYBERSPACE," which is cool to me because TMA didn't get super deep into fears of technology (certainly cameras, keyboard eating, and uncanny automata could all be lumped in, but tech itself wasn't the "fear" - it was the eye, the spiral, and the stranger). So far technology, the complexity of it, the things lurking in spaghetti code, are front and center.
All of the stories so far have also touched on body modification, even transhumanism (esp. 3), and I can't resist thinking I KNOW where this is going. Gimme that sweet sweet .jmj 🙈
I also wonder if the mere act of categorizing these cases is constructing the new fears.
In First Shift, Gwen accuses Alice of nepotism in helping Sam get the job. Alice says "I learned from the best"- so "Bouchard" probably carries much the same legacy in this world as TMA. Maybe Elias is even in power somewhere up the line.
I don't know what that means, but feels like it's either important or a red canary. I mean herring.
