VERY SHORT DEADLINE! (Tuesday 1st November 2023)
The UK's National Health Service (NHS) are about to ban puberty blockers for all trans adolescents, except for a small group who are eligible and willing to be research subjects.
"As part of this NHS England-led process, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) was commissioned to review the published evidence. Overall, there was no statistically significant difference in gender incongruence, mental health, body image and psychosocial functioning in children and adolescents treated with PSH." -- 6-page introductory PDF to consultation
That's because puberty blockers don't change gender characteristics by definition, you absolute donuts.
They're carrying out a consultation on this because they have to, and there's only two days left. If you are in the UK and you are a young trans person or know any young trans people, please check out this consultation.
Here's the first question, to help you work out if you're in the target group:
In "other", you could put anything like "friend of a trans adolescent", "family member of a trans child", etc. If you're a trans adult who was on blockers or who would have been on blockers if waiting lists had been shorter or family/doctors had been more supportive etc, choose "patient".
Some more stills from my video of the Mari Lliwgar in all their glory! Technically this is a male horse's skull (so more of a March than a Mari) but I had a lot of fun putting them together!
Once I have more materials I'll make their getup a little more elaborate than it is now. Hope you enjoy and Nadolig Llawen
Thank you all for another year of Llyfr Enfys (a project to create an LGBT+ Welsh Dictionary). See you in 2024!
Y llyfr heddiw yw 'Queer Sex' gan Juno Roche, a gyhoeddwyd yn 2018.
Mae'r llyfr hwn yn gasgliad o gyfweliadau rhwng Roche a phobl drawsryweddol eraill. Testun y cyfweliadau yw 'rhyw cwiar' - y ffyrdd o gael rhyw pan yn drawsryweddol. Mae pob cyfweliad yn y llyfr yn ddiddorol iawn!
Ydych chi wedi darllen y llyfr hwn?

This book is a collection of interviews between Roche and other transgender people. The topic of the interviews is 'queer sex' - the ways of having sex when transgender. Each interview in the book is very interesting!

Following on from this post I made yesterday, in which I listed some possible gender neutral Welsh terms for family brainstormed in the discord, I'm going to make a series of polls to find out which terms people prefer for each concept. In each poll I'll have two options and example sentences using each term (you are welcome to create your own as well). Your feedback is very much appreciated too! Reblog with tags or send an ask- either is fine!
And of course, please reblog for a larger sample size. Diolch!
Grandchild(ren):
Ŵyr(ion) m. - "Oes gennych chi unrhyw wyrion?" (Do you have any grandchildren?)
[‘ŵyr’ (grandson) normally, but may be used irrespective of gender in a similar fashion to the modern usage of terms like ‘ysgrifennwr’ (writer) over older terms like ‘ysgrifenyddes’ (female writer) ]
Other (I did not feel that wyrion could be improved upon, hence no alternate version here)
I never thought I'd have to make one of these, but I'm genuinely really struggling financially right now and will swallow my pride about asking for help.
As some of you may know, the NHS has been slowly gutted by the Tories, meaning that medical interventions which were formerly free/low cost and readily available are no longer available. As a result I'm having to pay £250 out of pocket for a mouth guard to protect my teeth from tooth grinding. I fell out of the NHS system a while ago when I became estranged, so have to go private.
I suffer from a tight tempomandibular joint (the muscles in my jaw) which causes teeth grinding (bruxism) at night. Stress and anxiety also worsen this. It's gotten to the point where it can hurt to talk or eat and the tooth grinding triggers my migraines due to the pressure caused by my jaw. My gums are also very sensitive and thin due to another medical condition and the grinding is making my teeth loose and gums bleed. I have no other option other than getting a mouth guard fitted - the cheapest option of which is £250.
So I'm creating a $1 Patreon tier for anyone who can spare it to help me cover the cost of my mouth guard. If you do donate, I really, really cannot thank you enough - losing my teeth is one of my biggest fears and I need to prevent that from happening, so thank you again if you can spare anything! If you would prefer, I also have tumblr tips enabled. If you cannot donate, please consider reblogging!
Diolch mawr for reading and thank you so much to everyone who has supported me - now or in the past.
I have bitten the Meta bullet and finally made a Facebook for Prosiect Llyfr Enfys. To be fair I was already on Instagram - but I'm aware that not everyone uses Instagram, Tumblr or Mastodon. So I have made a page which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556691514316.
It'd be much appreciated if people could share this with anyone who uses Facebook who might be interested in my project and maybe follow if you'd like to keep up with the project there. I'm nervous to share too much on Facebook because I've faced queerphobia directly relating to my project on there in the past, but I'm hopeful people who will find my project useful will be able to stumble across me somehow. Diolch o galon !
Y llyfr heddiw yw 'Don't Ask About My Genitals' gan Owen Exie Hurcum, a gyhoeddwyd yn 2022.
Mae'r llyfr hwn yn torri tir newydd mewn cyhoeddi anneuaidd. Disgrifiodd Hurcum ei mhlentyndod* fel person dirywedd a rhyweddgwiar (dan yr ymbarél anneuaidd). Yn benodol y anneuffobia a thrawsffobia mewn cymdeithas. Er enghraifft, y cwestiwn trawsffobig "Pa organau cenhedlu sydd gennyt ti**?" yw'r ysbrydoliaeth teitl y llyfr.
Darllenais rywfaint o'r llyfr hwn, ond nid wyf wedi ei orffen eto.
[*Rhagenwau Hurcum yw ei/nhw (they/them yn Saesneg), felly mae'r treiglad trwynol yn dangos ei fod yn niwtral (ddim yn wrywaidd nac yn fenywaidd).
**Nid oes unrhyw drawsffobwyr neu anneufobwyr yn gofyn y cwestiwn hwn gyda pharch, felly ysgrifennais 'ti' ac nid 'chi'.]
Ydych chi wedi darllen y llyfr hwn?

Today's book is 'Don't Ask About My Genitals' by Owen Exie Hurcum, published in 2022.
This book breaks new ground in non-binary publishing. In it, Hurcum described their childhood as an agender and genderqueer person (under the non-binary umbrella). With a focus on exorsexism(1) and transphobia in society. For example, the transphobic question "What genitals do you have?" serves as the inspiration for the book's title.
I read some of this book, but I haven't finished it yet.
[*Hurcum's pronouns are they/them, so the nasal mutation in the Welsh shows that the ei pronoun is neutral (neither masculine nor feminine ei).
**No transphobes or exorsexists ask this question respectfully, so I wrote 'ti' and not 'chi'.
(1) exorsexism = one of many terms for anti-nonbinary predjudice].

You never think it's going to happen to you until it does.
Hi, my name is Luke and I'm 24. As of two days ago, I spent the last of my money on rent and I have precisely £27 to my name. I can't afford food at all any more - let alone rent and bills.
I know the world is so full of despair atm. Especially with what's going in in America. But I beg you to give me a chance, midst it all.
Depressingly, I only ever seem to make sales when I'm in a dire situation. Ideally, I need to make sales before then so I don't end up in the dire situation in the first place, but alas. I'm poor and hungry and can't heat my home. I'm wracked with guilt every time I fail to make progress on the project because I'm so damn focused on survival I have little time for what brings me joy in this world. And that's depressing!
I dislike having to make posts like this - but as I said at the start of this post - no-one ever thinks it's going to happen to them. If you can spare some cash, please consider buying a print or my dissertation to help me buy food (see here for my prints and diss). I have plans to introduce badges to my site as well - but sadly due to new postage laws they'll be UK only. However. I can ship prints to Canada, the US, UK and EU (with a view to shipping to Aus and NZ soon, amongst other places, if Royal Mail'll let me).
I hope one day to be able to make a post saying that I got out of poverty and am no longer surviving but thriving. Until then, your support is quite literally putting bread on the table. I want more than anything right now to be able to get back to doing what I love. But I cannot do so presently.
If you're about in Swansea on the 7th of February at 7pm, please consider coming to Elysium Gallery for the opening of Queer Land, an exhibition which my art is in! In spite of these circumstances I find myself in - I refuse to stop creating. Down, yes - but not out.
So please, please if you can, please reblog and purchase a print if you are able. It will help me wo much and I'm infinitely grateful to those who do.
Diolch
