Request: Hey! I enjoyed the Kids these days fic! Can I request a Nat x child reader (maternal/child bond): Avengers are on a mission involving Hydra & they find young child R in a cell. R is a shape shifter (can shift into baby version of a tiger, wolf, something else idk). Child R thinks being in human form=pain & feels most comfortable in animal form w/ human mentality, or R has been treated like animal for so long=cautious wild animal mentality. Masterlist

Natasha stuck to the shadows as she walked further into the Hydra base. “Captain, I’ve got a heat signature up ahead, it looks like some sort of animal.”

Steve spoke back through the com, “See what it is, but don’t get hurt.”

Natasha smirked, even though she knew Steve couldn’t see, “When do I ever get hurt?”

She crouched, pulling out her gun as she turned the corner and saw the cell that was in the wall.

She gasped and tears welled up in her eyes. Because in the cell, that looked alarmingly like a cage, was a tiny, matted up orange tabby kitten.

Natasha glanced up and down the hallway before putting her gun away and crouching down to the ground. The kitten’s wide eyes were eerily human looking as it watched Natasha with fear.

Natasha whispered softly, stretching out a hand, “Why would Hydra have a kitten locked up?”

As she reached her hand in between the bars, the kitten arched its back and began hissing at Natasha.

“Nat! Status report! We’re getting pummeled out here!” Tony’s voice crackled in Natasha’s comm. She growled under her breath as she retracted her hand and responded.

“It’s odd Tony…I’ve got a kitten…” She trailed off as her mouth gaped open. The kitten in the cell started seizing and growing and changing.
