Ren: (off screen) --committing to the bit is the way to win. Martyn: Oh, one hundred percent. Yeah, commit to the bit, and you're going all the way. Big time. And! (closer to the mic) Tha-I-this is a tip just from me to you, because I love you so much. Ren: (off screen) Yes. Martyn: At some point they might give us a challenge, like, where we have to do something it says on the card. If it's not on the card, you can do it. So. The card is literal. Ren: (off screen) Ohhh. Okay, okay. Martyn: They will tell you anything you can't do. Ren: (off screen) Yeah. Martyn: But if you think of something, and it's not contradicted by the card, do it. Ren: Sweet. Okay, we gotta think outside the box, basically. Martyn: Like, half the game is trying to trick the task master, I've already tricked Grian today, Gem's next on my list. (Ren laughs) That's what's happening here.

Idk how to word this properly but Ren being way more affectionate to Martyn after the beheading (don't remember if that particular event has a name)
He doesn't want Martyn to think of his head on the ground when he thinks of him. He doesn't want to think of Martyn's hands shaking as he held the axe when he thinks of him.
So he's taking every chance they're not being watched to take his hand, to steal a kiss, to play with his hair.
You can see it when they're not alone too. In Ren standing just a little closer than is normal to his Hand. In the way his tail betrays his true feelings. In the way they look at each other, like they desperately want to be alone right now.

@koalaxliterally i absolutely agree
I also think it would be beneficial for us to keep in mind that there is no 'main character' in the Life Series.
It's fully understandable and valid that not every person can watch every pov, obviously I don't expect them to. And it's natural that, if you're only watching some pov's, your analysis of the series will be colored through the lens of that person's perspective.
But sometimes I do feel like we lose a lot of nuance and important characterization when we let the most popular perspectives define the story. Very often I see certain characters glossed over, defined by one act that happened to be important in a more popular pov, or outright demonized in anon. Which I think is a shame.
The Life Series is a really interesting story because, being a series where every person records and uploads the same amount of content at the same time, every single person has a full and expansive perspective just like whatever pov you happen to watch.
And sometimes when I see people treat certain characters like an irrelevant side note or like a villain, I feel the need to point out that each of them has just as much of a story, complete with complex trauma and relationships and motivations, as anyone else, and I think sometimes general fanon ideas lose that nuance and layered storytelling by centering their characterization of characters from the perspective of the most popular pov's rather than from that characters own perspective.
Sausage: --yeah, I'm getting better at the magics. Ren: (softly, under Sausage) That's better. (clearer) Ah, look how-- Sausage: Oh you see my-my postage stamps? Ren: --the stamps are so cool. They're so cool. Sausage: Look at that, I'm stamp collecting. Yeah, Martyn-Martyn's a genius. Ren: Nah, there's--works of art, really. So good. Sausage: Yes, ugh. Ren: But yes-- Sausage: I was-I was making fun of Martyn the other day, because of, uh, because during the Hermitcraft charity stream-- Ren: Yeah? Sausage: --you asked him a specific question. And--he totally misinterpreted that question, and he did it. On actually, um, without even realizing it because he didn't even notice what you were talking about. Ren: (fondly) Oh, he's so-he's so cute. His cute little face. Sausage: Yeah. You mentioned-you just mentioned, you know, what's your favorite, you know, bit of tree bark, and-and the man actually said the word "birch." (Ren laughs, and Sausage joins in) Ren: Birch indeed.
Renrat, giggling nearby and zooming on Mratyn's face with a spyglass: It's your face, it's adorable.
DL Ren, giggling from far away and zooming on Martyn's face through the glass window: Look at that little face though, I mean it's adorable
