@koalaxliterally i absolutely agree
I also think it would be beneficial for us to keep in mind that there is no 'main character' in the Life Series.
It's fully understandable and valid that not every person can watch every pov, obviously I don't expect them to. And it's natural that, if you're only watching some pov's, your analysis of the series will be colored through the lens of that person's perspective.
But sometimes I do feel like we lose a lot of nuance and important characterization when we let the most popular perspectives define the story. Very often I see certain characters glossed over, defined by one act that happened to be important in a more popular pov, or outright demonized in anon. Which I think is a shame.
The Life Series is a really interesting story because, being a series where every person records and uploads the same amount of content at the same time, every single person has a full and expansive perspective just like whatever pov you happen to watch.
And sometimes when I see people treat certain characters like an irrelevant side note or like a villain, I feel the need to point out that each of them has just as much of a story, complete with complex trauma and relationships and motivations, as anyone else, and I think sometimes general fanon ideas lose that nuance and layered storytelling by centering their characterization of characters from the perspective of the most popular pov's rather than from that characters own perspective.
Ren: The people want Ren versus Martyn. Martyn: (away from any mic. laughs) Can you imagine. Ren: I love this man too much to hit him. I couldn't do it. Martyn: (away from any mic) Thank you--We couldn't do it. Ren: We just couldn't do it. Martyn: (away from any mic) I've already taken this man's head off, can't do any more of that. Ren: Exactly. You've already chopped my head off. Martyn: (away from any mic) That's it. It wouldn't have the same impact. Ren: The lore is done. Like, once the lore has been lored, you can't unlore the lore.
Renrat, giggling nearby and zooming on Mratyn's face with a spyglass: It's your face, it's adorable.
DL Ren, giggling from far away and zooming on Martyn's face through the glass window: Look at that little face though, I mean it's adorable
"Do you love me?"
A king looks to his hand, "What?"
"I said do you love me."
"..."
"..."
"Of cour-"
"Sometimes it feels like you don't." His hand says. "Sometimes it feels like you use me. I'm only here to be useful."
The King takes a long moment to think about this, "I... I assure you, I meant no offense. I care for you like any of my soldiers."
His hand is not comforted by this.
His hand does not want to be cared for like any of the King's soldiers. Not at all.
His hand wants to be loved.
But the kingdom is at war in the desert.
And love is for the peaceful.
Martyn: Well, what were they saying-- (playback from False and Ren stream) Ren: There's-there's Martyn working away over there, and, um-- Martyn: Here we go-- Ren: We've got like, a TV over here with all of the everything--oh--check this out, right-- False: I think I saw it on Cleo's, uh, POV-- Ren: Oh they did. This is what Martyn's doing. He's an absolute maniac. False: What is he-- Ren: He was just here at HQ. And now he's straight back into doing, like, art stuff. False: What is th--this isn't allowed, this isn't Hermitcraft, what's happenin'. Ren: He's working on stamps for Misadventures, I think is what he's doing. And uh--(False laughs) He's like, he's such a ridiculously talented person. Like, he can do art (Martyn aws), he can do it all False: He can. Martyn: Cute-- False: But no one tell him that, but he can. Ren: Jimmy's on Hermitcraft--Jimmy's doing some weird stuff too, he's on Hermitcraft right now-- Martyn: Cute. Cuties. Very cute.
