Darth Vader + Dramatic Entrances for @darthgalpal
Bonus:
Let’s take off our fandom-glasses for a moment and look at the gorgeous canon conflict between Dabi and Hawks and “the injustice of morality”.
Now, the goal is to destroy an ‘unjust’ society. Which will inevitably kill many innocent people. Though: Some of the leagues members are genuinely good people (Twice) or just got abused by the system (Dabi) and see no other choice. Dabi sees his action as “justice”, since he longs for revenge against the man/system who did him wrong. [- But this brings him in conflict with his understanding of moral-pain, as he knows the people he kills have family. - To the point where he cried blood.]
His moral ideology is the extreme opposite of Hawks’.
When Hawks joined the league, he acknowledged the problem of “injustice”. He saw the flaws of the system and felt genuine sympathy for Twice. But he is unwilling to risk a single civilian life for changing it.
The bloody fun starts when Hawks is gets confronted with the “Trolley-Problem”.
This is a version of an ethical dilemma from 1967, surrounding the question: Do I stick to the “moral code” by not hurting a criminal or do I choose the “best” outcome, by causing a criminal’s death?
In a survey around 90% of the respondents said: “It’s okay to let one person die, to save the larger number of people.” This is the natural human ideology of “Utilitarism” and also occurs in social animal-species behavior.
BUT If you make it more “personal”, let’s say: You like the person and you have to kill them yourself – And Hawks liked Twice. - Even if it still saves a thousand lives, the reaction is completely different now: Only 10% of the respondents would still do it. Because now it “feels” wrong.
Even if “not killing this person, because you don’t want to feel wrong” would lead to “letting thousand people die, but feeling right”.
[He jokes he doesn’t want to be No. 2. He thinks his back isn’t broad enough. He jokes he isn’t “Top-hero”-material. (ref: ch. 188; ch.185)]
Hawks is one of the most intelligent characters within the MHA Universe, and his way of approaching problems is not influenced by “situational factors” but by “logical weight.”
Hawks took the harder choice and forced himself to suppress his own moral instincts for this. [Remember, he saved Twice’s life risking his own out of pure reflex. Hawks is a selfless hero, to a point where Dabi relied on it:]
[In fact, Hawks is so selfless, that he sacrifices his own “wish to feel like a good person” so save the larger number of people. ]
Let’s say (solely hypothetical) Hawks killed Twice – but Toga copies Twice’ quirk, and over hundred million civilians of Japan die nonetheless. Hawks has now killed a good man, without direct logical weight behind it.
Someone could (or will, because I’m fucking going to) conclude that the righteousness of Hawks action might solely depend on its success. ( – At least till we include numbers in Hawk’s imaginary litigation. Because Twices quirk included “exponential growth of fighting power”, the heroes’ chances of winning would run asymptotic to zero, which would result in the death of over a hundred-million people. Not taking the “risk” of beeing injustice would therefore have been illogical from Hawks’ perspective.)
Because Dabi’s character personifies the exact opposite ideology: “deontological theory”, which focuses not on the product of his acts, but the intrinsic value of the act in and of itself. Dabi approaches problems complete and utterly “selfish”. - No, this does not mean that he can’t do things for others out of sympathy- It means that he acts bird-free after his own instinctive moral-code and makes his decisions because he feels like they are the right thing to do. - Like a normal human - just a little more extreme.
[See, Dabi recruited Hawks into the inner circle of the League, without trusting him - because he doesn’t trust the League either. (He said this and acted like this several times.) Just like Hawks, Dabi is a lonely and paranoid man. But other than Hawks, he is driven by the injustice he experienced. He uses on his own pain as fuel to fight for the things he right now sees as “good”.)
- Dabi got exploited and abused by the hero-system? -> He will destroy said hero-system as revenge, to create momentary “justice” for himself.
- Dabi gets the chance to benefit from a hero? -> He will recruit him without much caring for long-term consequences.
- Dabi loses a valuable ally/partner trough a hero? -> He will kill/torture said hero as revenge.
Dabi is more “justice“ fixated than Hawks.
Dabi would never kill a man he likes for the “greater good”. (He also does not care about the “liberation”-ideology, or anything regarding the “freedom” of regular civilians. Which is shown in his fight against Geten and again in his monologue in chapter 267.) He only cares about the ‘injustice’ of the hero-system. Dabi clings to his “humanity” more than Hawks does and he reacts to his own pain with highly emotion-driven actions. He clearly does not care about the long-term effects his actions have on him- or everyone else.
[Neither Hawks nor Dabi expect a long life, but both deal with it very differently.]
From Dabi’s point of view, Hawks is injustice, because he killed a good man, right here and now and the consequences – good or bad – do not matter. (“The action in itself was amoral.”)
[It is very interesting to see the reactions within the fandom, paralleling Dabi’s exact ideology to the point where some wanted Dabi to punish Hawks in the name of justice. Dabi’s moral-code is to lesser extents portrayed in many shonen-protagonists (e.g. Gon from HxH) – and sometimes criticized as immature.]
Actually, both sides can be reduced to:
Dabi’s: “Think for yourself and do whatever the hell you recognize as righteous right now.” and Hawks’: “Think for the others and do whatever the hell is necessary to bring the maximum good to society.”
…And I also think thats pretty fucking cool.
Do you know how many times you distracted me when I was hurt or lonely? Do you know how many times a line or a scene from fanfic marked me so much that I remembered years later, even though I can’t recall my own phone number?
Even if the fic isn’t perfect or popular or multi-chaptered… Sometimes there’s just one sentence that changed me.
You, miles and miles away, changed me.
Some of my fave HeroAca relationships (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
-slamming fists on table- Just! Because! A person! In! A same! Sex! Relationship! Is! The! Bottom! -breaks table- DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE TO BE CUTESY AND HELPLESS
I need to rant.
The thing about being aromantic, asexual, or on the spectrums that a lot of people don’t seem to get is that compulsory sexuality exists.
Not just compulsory heterosexuality. Compulsory sexuality. Period. The idea that every person on the planet feels some kind of sexual and romantic attraction.
I grew up watching media, same as all of you, and how are people that are interested in purely sexual relationships depicted? As cold people. As cheaters. Usually it’s a straight man looking to use women. His character development almost always includes settling down. And people that don’t experience sexual attraction? Characters like Data from Star Trek or Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. Androids and characters coded as having a very specific type of autism. And even they have sexuality forced upon them by the writers at least once. With Data it happens in the second episode.
And then we try to explain this to people. Why we hurt ourselves and put ourselves in dangerous and uncomfortable situations trying to fix ourselves. Make ourselves feel sexual and/or romantic attraction. We bring up the bullying we endured. The things our therapists tried to fix about us. We talk about our trauma related to compulsory sexuality and you all just don’t hear us.
I’m so tired of it. I’ve been fighting the fight to be seen since I was fourteen! I’ve given talks in GSAs. I’ve written essays to educate. I’ve comforted other asexual people on the internet and irl. I’ve scraped and grabbed for community. I’ve done my very best to fight to be seen. I’ve healed from the trauma I put myself through in trying to fix myself. I’ve realized that I don’t need to be fixed. I’ve been as goddamned involved as an asexual person can be with the resources we have. I may be young but I have been fighting longer than most and I am so protective of the people just realizing that they’re aro or ace or demi or anything else. No matter how much older or younger they are than me.
And then some people on the internet decide that they get to undo everything I and so many other asexual and aromantic people have done. They get to decide that their trauma is more real than mine. They get to push me and my brothers and sisters and siblings out the door because they don’t see invisibility as oppression. They’ve held up their little sign that says “must be this oppressed to enter” and then held it up higher so that we didn’t fit.
Some of them told me “oh you can come in because you tick these boxes but that other box doesn’t count”
No. That box definitely counts. That box is just as much a part of me as any of the others and it is the one I have fought for the longest. Our community won’t be made invisible again. Invisibility is crushing. It is suffocating. Abuse and hatred of all kinds thrive in silence.
I feel alone sometimes. Like I am the only soldier holding a banner in front of a stone wall. But I am not alone, and you aren’t either. I’m tired of being casual. I’m tired of being seen as a rarity. A novelty. An android. A nuisance. I am none of these things. I, like every other arospec or aspec person, am a friend of dragons. Something that was hidden for so long, protecting itself and what it loves, but has the ability to be loud, dangerous, firey.
Asexual and aromantic people have been polite. Quiet. Because that’s what we feel we have to be. We can’t protest by kissing someone in front of a picket line. What can we do then? Talk. Write. Wear our colors. If we have to keep being polite and quiet about it, fine. That’s how we do. But let’s not be invisible. I will continue to let everyone that knows me understand under no uncertain terms that I am asexual. I will point to our aromantic siblings, sisters, brothers. I will tell you to look at them. Look at us. We exist. We are wonderful. We belong. In queer spaces, in the media, in the public eye.
If you are aro or ace people will tell you that they don’t care. They will ask why they need to know. But being yourself is a radical act. I know it is. We are often polite in this community. We don’t rally. We don’t look to change the world. We don’t depict ourselves as radical or challenging the establishment, but we are. We are. We have been from the moment we realized we exist. Our history is small. We are creating the early stages of it as we speak, but it is still rich. It is still beautiful. Even if we are spread out, I love this community so deeply. So completely. I probably won’t ever be a leader in this community or any other one. That’s not where my talents lie. But I will continue to push for us to be seen. I will write literature for us. I will talk. I will be as visible as someone like me can be. I will fight to make the words ace and aro and demi and grey just as well known as gay, ace, lesbian, bi, trans.
And there are so many of us out there doing the same. We are not alone. We have never been alone. And these people trying to make us alone won’t succeed. I know this. I feel it in my gut.
Thanks for listening to me rant.
In the series Fablehaven, there is not one scene where the limberjack, Mendigo, is given a hug.
One like = one hug for Mendigo
One reblog = more likes = more hugs for Mendigo.
Please, Mendigo deserves the hugs. He is a good boy.
Obi-Wan/Rex, secret marriage (but without drama! There is nothing I like more than ppl getting married and then... kinda forgetting... to tell ppl about it)
I’m rolling in the fluff, guys, it’s awesome.
It starts like this :
Anakin is walking up the stairs leading to the Temple, and he passes near Obi-Wan and Rex, and his former Master and the clone Captain are standing close.Just a glimpse, and Anakin sees their hands brushing against each other, and then entwining. He’s so surprised he trips, and rolls down two flights of stairs.Ahsoka mocks him for days.
*
Anakin almost stalks them every time they are together, looking for the absolute proof he has not hallucinated that casual, intimate touch. He doesn’t always find something, and the things he sees are… not incriminating. Looks. Touches. Small gestures, really, a brush of shoulders there, a kind smile then. It’s at its more blatant when the 501st and 212th have been on separate ops for a long time. Then Anakin catches them whispering to each other in Mando’a, handholding and, even once, standing forehead against forehead on the main deck. Now, Anakin hasn’t his master’s knack for picking up languages and customs, but even he knows enough about his men to understand what that is, and what ‘cyare’ means.
Obi-Wan… and Rex.Uh.*Talking to Obi-Wan about it is trickier. Anakin wants his Master to trust him, but he is also pretty miffed that his teacher can still nag him about attachment when he’s clearly involved with Anakin’s Captain.Still, subtlety and dancing around the subject aren’t Anakin’s forte and he blurts it out in the middle of a dinner in Obi-Wan’s quarters.
“Is there something between you and Rex ?”Obi-Wan looks surprised, before he nods. “Yes?”“… Really ?”
Obi-Wan smiles, the kind of easy, relaxed smile he doesn’t wear that often in the middle of the war, and just for that, Anakin is glad that there is a reason for him to do so.“Really, the same kind of thing you have with Padmé, I believe.”Anakin chokes down on his food.“Uh… friendship ?” he coughs, red as a Lethan.“Marriage, Anakin.”Uh oh. Obi-Wan knows.Wait, what ?
*
“But what did the Council say ?”“Strangely, they never mentioned it.”Anakin knows Obi-Wan. He knows that air of perfect innocence, he uses it frequently and Ahsoka is becoming a master at it, too.“What did you do ?”“I have no idea what you mean. I filled our paperwork in the Archives, like I should.”Anakin stares, then smirks.“The Archives. The ones nobody ever reads, except Master Nu.”“Now, Anakin, that’s not kind, the Council is very busy with the war, they can’t be hold responsible for not checking every bit of paper that goes through their desks before it’s put away in Master Nu’s files.”“Of course, Master.” the young knight grins. “Forgive me, I have to go, I forgot I had some papers to fill in.”*
(But really, it starts like this :
Rex and Obi-Wan are lying next to each other, on Obi-Wan’s bunk, Obi-Wan’s face nuzzled against Rex’s chest and the clone kissing his brow frequently.“Once the war ends…” Rex whispers, because if there are times when he can actually hope that it will end, it’s when he’s holding his Jedi in his arms, “once it ends… I’m asking you to marry me, I’m saying the vows and giving you my life.”
Obi-Wan stills, then lifts himself on his forearms to give him a long, deep kiss, then pressing his forehead against Rex’s. His eyes are shining with love and mirth.
“Why wait ?”)
Ask me silly prompts !
I keep seeing posts on social media thanking the OFMD cast and crew for their work and not mentioning Taika, and it's driving me to distraction because Taika is absolutely fundamental to the existence of this show.
There's a huge chance the show wouldn't have been picked up at all if Taika hadn't attached his name to it. And he didn't just attach his name and walk away - he played a key role in developing the show. David has said that he was looking at the history with Taika and they both went 'omg Stede and Blackbeard were fucking' and decided to centre the show around that. Taika pushed for Rhys to play Stede. Taika saw Nathan's comedy on instagram and went 'yep that's Lucius'. Taika was desperate to play Ed, and fought to play him. Taika has spoken about how much he loves playing Ed, how it made him fall in love with acting again, to the point where he wears some of Ed's jewellery and has gotten some of Ed's tattoos actually inked on him. He poured everything he has as an actor into Ed (some of the stuff he had to perform, particularly at the beginning of S2, is difficult) and the show simply wouldn't work without it. Taika directed the pilot. He loved the show enough to juggle filming S1 with post-production on Thor: Love and Thunder. When the show's budget was slashed by 40%, and could no longer afford to film in LA, Taika would have been key to moving production to New Zealand - and if that hadn't happened, S2 wouldn't have happened. When a director went off sick with Covid during S2, Taika jumped in to direct half an episode and then didn't take a director's credit on it.
You do not have to like Taika. You do not have to agree with everything he does/says. But what we are not going to do is erase the absolutely key fundamental role that Taika has played in OFMD. This show simply would not exist, probably not in any form, but certainly not in the form we see and love, if not for Taika's continuing and multi-level contribution.
actual conversation i had with my friends today

Sharing this for KaiShin reasons.
I love how Conan is KIDs favourite audience. Because Conan alsways motivates him to do his best. Otherwise he wouldn’t amaze him…and amazing someone like Conan is the highest praise for Kaito, that’s for sure.
“That kind of magic should I use to boggle his mind next time?” - he said, after almost being blown up by him.
And next time he got a beautiful reaction even though he didn’t suceed with “teleporting” the second time. He was happy to have achieved such a reaction out of Conan.
You can’t deny that their relationship is anything but boring lol.
I identify as female with she/her pronouns. I love anything One Piece. Especially Trafalgar Law.
