Questions #1

Introduction

I would like to begin my regular questioning ritual with one of the most famous and enduring questions in philosophy. Despite its considerable age, this question has retained an enduring appeal for me. Given the myriad perspectives and explanations that exist, I am eager to hear about your views.

Question

Do you believe in free will, or do you think our lives are predetermined?

Attendees

@readsal @stargirll111 @passivelyalive @toterozean @violent138 @abrill @sidinsky @le-seul-mot0001 @iremiari @youngfanpeace @nirvakarma @itnashumate @nevermindbebe

Since I've already done this on previous accounts on other platforms, I thought about resuming an old ritual of mine. The idea would be to ask a selected group of people questions from the fields of psychology, philosophy, art and creativity, society and ethics or a mixture of these areas.

I can't yet say how regularly questions will be asked, as this depends very much on my own mood and creativity.

In terms of structure, I plan to post the questions on my blog and tag individuals who are interested. Subsequently, you can either generate a distinct post or reblog to respond and express your opinions.

As an illustration, you can refer to the response provided by @readsal to my first question: https://www.tumblr.com/readsal/737080816398696448/muse-playing-the-harp-by-antoine-auguste-ernest

What would such questions look like, for example?

Psychology: If you could change one thing about the way your mind works, what would it be?

Philosophy: Do you believe in free will, or do you think our lives are predetermined?

Art and creativity: If your life were a painting, what colors and symbols would dominate the canvas?

Society and ethics: Do you think morality is subjective, or are there universal moral principles?

If anyone is interested in such questions, please feel free to like this post or let me know by other means. I would then create a list and include the respective people.

I read that you dropped "name the trait" in reference to your veganism.... Peter Singer ... Veganism and hatred of the disabled - how do they go together? I thought you vegans are against suffering and want to prevent it, so why this latent and unfounded hatred? :)

First of all, who are "you vegans"? You are communicating with me, an individual, and not an imaginary, homogeneous group that follows the same dogma and thinks the same thoughts in every aspect of life. Such a portrayal of a group already reveals a lot and takes away any desire for further discussion from the outset. Nevertheless, I will still address the rest of your message.

Yes, I have already presented "name the trait" as a kind of verifiability for logical consistency in the context of veganism, and I am also familiar with Peter Singer and his philosophy. Furthermore, I am, of course, aware of the criticism of his preference utilitarianism, especially in my home country, which is not surprising given the country's history; historically, Germany cannot dissociate itself from the accusations of eugenics during the National Socialist era.

Without wanting to unnecessarily deepen this discussion, I would like to ask you whether you have also familiarized yourself with his writings and philosophy or whether, like many, you simply repeat what is commonly criticized without delving into it further. That's how your previous message comes across to me. Personally, your standpoint seems to deliberately misinterpret his writings to build a semblance of an argument, if it can even be called that. Your attempt to introduce a kind of strawman in the form of the allegedly homogeneous group of vegans does not really cast your message in a better light.

I am happy and willing to discuss philosophy and other topics at any time, but only if I see a certain meaningfulness and a real exchange in it. In your case, I see neither.

And by the way: Perhaps you should ask me about my reasons for veganism before arguing against it and assuming that Peter Singer's philosophy is my sole reason, because - and I can tell you this much - it is not.

As a kid, was there something you absolutely wanted to do as an adult? If so did you do it?

I was quite an introverted child and preferred to spend time with myself, which resulted in certain preferences for activities. For example, I liked to spend my free time reading, doing card tricks, but as there were also "quantum leaps" in terms of technology in my childhood, I also liked to spend time gaming.

I don't remember too many details about my childhood, but I do remember that it was always a bit of a dream for me to develop a game myself and understand how they were built. And now it's been a few years since my childhood and I've developed not just one game, but several with different game engines and programming languages and now understand the build and development process, which has probably only added to my fascination.

In short: Yes, I did.

You know most of the deficiency symptoms of a vegan diet only spark up after 1-2 years .. so enjoy it while it's still good. You'll notice soon enough :)

By that logic, as someone who has been eating a vegan diet for over 10 years, I should have died or suffered critical consequences a long time ago. And yet my regular blood tests show the best results ever, the sport I regularly do six times a week is the most fulfilling I have ever experienced and my energy is a seemingly inexhaustible resource.

But keep thinking what you want to think. It's not up to me to expose your errors and convince you otherwise.

Nightstand

On my nightstand, a part of you remains,

from dawn's first blush to night's quiet plains.

Where I once looked into your eyes,

to start and end each day,

I now find solace in a picture,

in the same loving way.

Reflections

You made me beautiful, held within your eyes,

a reflection I could cherish, to my surprise.

But in a thousand gazes, I sought in vain,

that same sweet beauty, I'd never find again.

A Silent Farewell

In the shadows, where farewells are said,

I felt like a stranger to the words I once had;

Tears fall like rain on the ones left unsaid,

may you be in heaven before the devil knows you're dead.

Love's Unseen Roots

In the garden of our love, we once grew free;

where your roots took hold deep inside of me.

But fate, unkind, veiled you from my eyes to see;

my heart, your grave, forever to be.

Beyond words

In a world full of words, their purpose is clear,

to describe all we see, hold, and revere;

Yet when I tried to mantle you in written attire,

words could not fathom the love you inspire.

For you, my dear, defy all description,

a realm beyond words, a unique prescription;

In silence, your essence found its way,

where words, in wonder, still fail to portray.

Having pencil arms and talking about your passion for sport lmao. Get a grip on reality dude 😂😂😂 I mean, you're not wrong in some ways. The

I was about to elaborate, as I did in an earlier reply, that I don't enjoy direct arm training, but then those words seemed too precious for that and so I'll just link you my earlier reply.

Also since you seem to be bothered in some way by my pictures, have fun with another one:

Poison

Beneath moon's lament, her laughter ebbs to tide,

a river's course to shadows, deep and wide.

Ensnared by currents, I struggle to withstand,

drowning in thoughts, that bind me to this land.

Her memory, a poison, I drink with bitter lip,

my poems, mere mirrors, of each somber sip.

Do you consider yourself attractive?

In the realm of human perception, attractiveness takes on varied forms, shaped by unique experiences, cultures, and personal perspectives.

However, beauty isn't confined to the physical; it extends to encompass character, personality, and presence. A heart that beats in harmony with your own, a thoughtful mind, and an artistic essence all contribute to the mosaic of what is considered attractive.

As I reflect, I recognize the intricate interplay of perceptions and societal norms in shaping the concept of attractiveness. Yet, this isn't a reflection of self-worth; it's a contemplation of the layers that constitute this idea.

In conclusion, discussions on attractiveness reveal the intricate dance between personal viewpoints, societal standards, and the tapestry of human perception. I find myself just a mere participant, shaped by these threads of subjectivity. And while beauty may indeed reside in the eye of the beholder, my own eyes will never bestow upon me the mantle of attractiveness.

In short: No, I don't.

Is that your cat in the black and white photo? Soooo adorable 😍 By the way you have beautiful hands .. hope it does not sound weird but would you consider posting a picture of them? 😁🤭

No, it's not my cat, but I'll be happy to pass along your compliment to her. Thank you (even though I don't really understand what is supposed to be beautiful about them), I think I can do that.

What is the best operating system? What operating system do you use? Why do you use it?

I would say it depends on your use case.

For the majority of users, an operating system that puts a lot of emphasis on user-friendliness and ease of use is a good choice. The most prominent representatives in this category (in the PC context) are probably Windows and MacOS, which is also shown by their market share. However, there are also a few Linux distributions that are very easy to use now.

If one puts more value on performance, certain functionality, open source development, data protection, avoiding bloatware ... or something like that, then the answer could be different, of course. As I said, the use case is decisive.

Personally, I've been using Linux for years and change distributions quite regularly; which again depends on my personal use case. So far I have found favor in Ubuntu, Debian, Arch and Kali.

Currently I use Ubuntu, because I also use it in my work environment and it is convenient for me. Other reasons include being a supporter and contributor of open source software, it's good for development/coding and I just need a shell to feel comfortable.

I could name many more reasons, but I think the basic idea has become apparent.

I don't want to get into the negativity of the rest of the asks, so let me ask you this: has there been something positive for you lately? Something that made you happy?

Thank you for your ask.

Happy would probably be an exaggeration, but I was satisfied with my progress for a few brief moments. An injury of mine has healed, so I was able to improve on some exercises and set some new personal records as a result.

In addition, I was able to achieve a little side-goal of mine, which has to do with grip strength training (squeezing a gripper with 200lbs (90kg) resistance). My final goal regarding grip strength is to someday be able to close the "Captains of Crush No. 3", which sits at 280lb resistance.

Not sure if I'm able to do that since I don't focus on grip strength primarly and it is just the result of working out and other training.

You haven't posted in a while so I'm hoping you finally gathered a bit of courage and offed yourself 😏

Sorry to disappoint you again, but I'm still here. And to keep your hopes low, sometimes I don't post for weeks or months, that's completely normal for me.

But thanks for apparently caring enough about me to bother posting a message like this in my absence.

Those Legs Look So Strong And Powerful... God I Wish You Would Just Grab Me And Hipthrust Me Like A Fully

A night or two? I guess I'm not even good enough for a thirsty tumblr anon no more.

But in all seriousness, what do you hope to gain from such messages? I ignore most of them anyway.

If you want to practice pick-up lines, just tell me. The one with the barbell could at least be described as creative, euphemistically.

Would you consider violence to always be wrong? What do you think are the reasons for violence?

No, I wouldn't always consider violence as the wrong method. Sometimes it is necessary to protect oneself or others, or because it is the only means understood by the other party.

Regarding the reasons: It is difficult to say, really; since they can vary greatly.

My personal experience is that violence is often answered by violence, and this creates a cycle that we as humans find difficult to break. This is further illustrated by the modern use of the phrase "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", which originates from the Bible and had an opposite meaning at the time.

Violence is also a language that is universally understood; a language that everyone can learn and a language that questions the raison d'être of any other language, because anyone who is frequently confronted with such an oppressive form of communication will have a hard time understanding any other.

Violence as a means of communication is therefore a universally understandable language, which through our human existence as emotional beings meets fertile ground when it reaches us and is difficult to discard. A quite dangerous combination.

You said you get the most compliments for your ass but still you haven't even posted a single picture of your lower body? Are you skipping legs you wimp? 😂

I suppose I'm just not your typical fitness influencer who documents every workout session online using pictures or videos and I hardly post pictures on my blog. Admittedly, leg workouts are actually the least fun of all my workouts, but that just gives me even more motivation to do them.

So no, I don't skip legs.

Was steckt eigentlich hinter Deinem Tumblr Namen?

Should a man pay for the first date? Would you pay for the first date?

I believe one should not think in absolutes in such matters. So no, a man should not necessarily pay for the first date.

If I invited a woman, then I would pay for her, because she would be my guest; but to be honest, my best dates so far were the ones where you didn't have to pay for anything and the focus was solely on the other person.

Reviewing your profile, it strikes me that you say that you are no stranger to erotic texts.I also write poetry and short stories, and I have received requests for erotic. In my case, I feel that it is something too intimate, to put it on the table my own experiences and kinks. May I ask if you don't post it because it's too intimate? Nice poetry, btw.

On the one hand, it certainly has to do with the fact that such writings bring certain thoughts and imaginations to light. For me, desire, lust and eroticism are linked to so much more than just a beautiful body and could never be satisfied only by such; there's more to it.

And this "more" is something I do not want to disclose so freely to everyone, just as I do not want to make deep feelings and thoughts accessible to everyone. True intimacy is a gift not to be shared with everyone.

Another reason is the fact that our language is limited and we can only ever try to translate sensations into it - an endeavor doomed to failure from the start. This insufficiency of language, the errors in translation, the inadequacy that becomes so painfully apparent with each successive word, is something that also bothers me a lot in this field, just as it does in the field of poetry.

But it also has to do with the fact that I - at least here on tumblr - do not have the feeling that many people are capable of looking at such a piece of writing in a detached way and possibly understand it as an invitation to approach me with sexual advances, as that has already happened through one or the other text or image post on my part. In general, I have made the experience that writings of this kind are far too often understood as some kind of invitation and far too rarely as an expression of feelings or art.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons and in the end it will be a mixture of the ones shared above and those that I have not explicitly mentioned.

Thank you for the compliment, by the way.
