Maybe I should embrace the robotgirl vibe and make myself an ordered list of priorities as a decision tree. And then when I am struggling I can look at it and try to use it to decide on a better course of action.
THIS EXACTLY!!! also for sensory stuff too. like are you hiking and absolutely miserable because you hate the way that sweat and dirt feels on your skin? turn off that sensation until you're ready
it's about full and total control. and for me, i think it'd be pretty cool to wrench on myself, too
Sometimes, I want to be a robot girl. Outside of the context of kink, I mean, which is what I largely see on this site. I mean the kinky stuff, too, but just what the ramifications of being a machine could be intrigue me a lot.
Robot girl who can temporarily disable emotions that aren't useful or socially appropriate.
Robot girl who can power off when she's overwhelmed.
Robot girl who can patch her missing knowledge about social situations and rules.
Robot girl who can change her body at will.
Robot girl who shows you her operating system because she wants you to know her. Really, really, know her.
Robot girl connected to a whole network of other robot girls so that she never feels alone.
I just want to be robot girl.
ugh, so true. one of my worst pet peeves is when i go to click on one thing but another appears suddenly and either moves that original button or hides it entirely, via a pop-up. and it's so damn slow that by the time i think the UI is done loading, i go to click something, and lo and behold i have clicked on something else. why is it like this.
One small but extremely annoying effect of Tech Modernization or w/e is how UI contrast is garbage anymore, especially just, like, application windows in general.
"Ooh our scrollbar expands when you mouse over it! Or does it? Only you can know by sitting there like an idiot for 3 seconds waiting for it to expand, only to move your cursor away just as it does so!" or Discord's even more excellent "scrollbar is 2 shades off of the background color and is one (1) pixel wide" fuck OFF
I tried to move a system window around yesterday and had to click 3 times before I got the half of the upper bar that let me drag it. Why are there two separate bars with absolutely nothing to visually differentiate them on that.
"Well if you look closely-" I should not!! have to squint!!! at the screen for a minute straight to detect basic UI elements!! Not mention how ableist this shit is, and for what? ~✨Aesthetic✨~?
and then every website and app imitates this but in different ways so everything is consistently dogshit to try to use but not always in ways you can immediately grok it's!!!! terrible!!!! just put lines on things again I'm begging you!!!!
What's a citizen science project? Basically, it's crowdsourced science. In this case, crowdsourced climate science, that you can help with!
You don't need qualifications or any training besides the slideshow at the start of a project. There are a lot of things that humans can do way better than machines can, even with only minimal training, that are vital to science - especially digitizing records and building searchable databases
Like labeling trees in aerial photos so that scientists have better datasets to use for restoration.
Or counting cells in fossilized plants to track the impacts of climate change.
Or digitizing old atmospheric data to help scientists track the warming effects of El Niño.
Or counting penguins to help scientists better protect them.
Those are all on one of the most prominent citizen science platforms, called Zooniverse, but there are a ton of others, too.
Oh, and btw, you don't have to worry about messing up, because several people see each image. Studies show that if you pool the opinions of however many regular people (different by field), it matches the accuracy rate of a trained scientist in the field.

I spent a lot of time doing this when I was really badly injured and housebound, and it was so good for me to be able to HELP and DO SOMETHING, even when I was in too much pain to leave my bed. So if you are chronically ill/disabled/for whatever reason can't participate or volunteer for things in person, I highly highly recommend.
So, like, universal basic income.
One of the things I’ve heard people say is how, you know, you need income as a motivation to make people work. And I’ve heard some great arguments against that.
But also.
There are a lot of low-paid jobs that actually make the world a crappier place. Like, if we could just pay everyone in the fast fashion industry to stay home and not go to work, the world would be a much better place. If we paid people enough that they didn’t need to work in factories, then large-scale manufacture of crappy stuff wouldn’t be feasible anymore.
Like, we’re basically in a post-scarcity society. We have more than enough food and clothing for everyone. This manic capitalist mindset where we force people to go to jobs they hate to remove value from the world is insane, right?
And maybe if we instituted this we’d lose fast food corporations and stuff. But I bet they’d be replaced by small restaurants run by people who are passionate about what they do.
enough of this "androids who dream of being human" shtick. more androids who love being androids, and are lowkey sorry for humans bc that shit sounds exhausting
deeply amusing to me for some reason
