Evolution Series: A Series Of Sirenians

Buzzfeed has a listicle of 90s scholastic book fair books, and they actually included Animorphs, which is awesome. However, this was their description: “Despite the silly covers, the Animorphs series did teach readers a lot about adolescence: friendship and first crushes; and tougher issues, like losing your parents (and in one case, finding them again).” Mmmm…yeah.

Gonna go ahead and assume that that was written by someone who ONLY read the back cover summaries and not a single book. Because honestly (among all the other reasons that description is bizarrely inaccurate), the books don't actually have much to say about crushes or romance. There are two fairly healthy and well-communicated romances among the main cast, neither of which involves any kind of traditional couples' drama. Even Jake and Cassie's breakup is a long time coming, and their relationship remains mutually respectful afterwards.

i’ve been slacking on my devotion lately but i’ll always love the gods and they’ll always understand. they know that as long as i’m alive, i am living for them.

I often wonder about the nature of daemons. What they really are, whether they are just figments of hyper-imaginative minds, simple tricks of our inner voice, or something entirely esoteric. Whether they are "true" or not, and why some people no matter how hard they try, they end up never having contact with their own. After god knows how many years I've known mine, I rarely end up surprised nor I put his reality to test (since it's pointless and it's only damaging for a healthy relationship with ourselves); but today we caught ourselves in a disagreement over the most mundane thing: he scolded me for washing a pan that he believed was already clean, while I reminded him that it was used at dinner. We stopped for a second. I was the one correcting the voice that -supposedly- had access to all my memories and my knowledge, assuming he's just my imagination talking. Has something like this ever happened to anyone else? How deep is the difference between Agathiel as a person and their daemon? Sometimes I'd like to know the scientific explanation for daemons, something to answer that little worm of doubt that occasionally bites with a "what if you're just indulging in your mental illness", a chemical reaction or brain characteristic or hormones that explains their existence. More often though I prefer believing there's still a bit of unexplained wonder in the world.

at this point, my offerings to Lady Aphrodite have lately been things like

- wearing clothes i feel handsome in

- using terms like “handsome” rather than things like pretty for myself (which for some reason i hadn’t been doing even though it feels so much better and fits me more)

- letting myself cry when i need to

- hanging out with my partner whenever i can

- putting myself first in certain contexts and learning to say no and not just do things because it’ll make other people happy when it would affect me negatively

- take care of my mental health

(not all of this is really Aphrodite-related per se but still i do it for Her because She wants me to and that’s good motivation to actually do this stuff)

I haven’t done most of my usual routine with like my usual prayers and offerings in a while because i have been exhausted. and that’s okay! I’m not going to burn myself out, because that would be way worse in the long run and im doing what’s best for me and that’s okay

any opinions on daemon forms running through families? like obviously they like, for most of the time, Really Don’t, but like. say in a family small mammalian forms are fairly common or every generation’s got that One Cousin who settles as a colourful bird or something and when the newest settled kid in the family turns out to be a lizard or a frog or an insect.

because i like to think to a certain extent that daemon settling will usually occur in such a way that it won’t be detrimental to the livelihood of their daemian (eg someone living deep in the mainland whos entire life is built around that COULD in theory get an aquatic daemon, but the universe is not that cruel and would most likely not fuck up that persons entire life like that) which Back In The Day meant since families settled in a single area/kept up a profession that was passed down that a lot of daemon forms were also passed down?

that wouldn’t really be the case nowadays because of globalisation and whatnot but it would be pretty daunting and isolating to be the kid in the family that’s got a daemon that doesn’t match any one else’s i guess?
