Ok, first time I've done an actual poll here on tumblr, testing it out...
(refer to @legends-of-bennuma for reference)
...when I edit a tiny part of a larger section of writing for something small, but have to re-read over the entire thing several times in a row in order to check for typos; and the nagging feeling that I've missed one remains. This after having already done so many times back when the section was originally posted, and... also when it was originally written out prior to making a blog post for it.
I gotta get me one of these
my heart
Some people seem to think that the world does not yet have enough faux-found-footage fake-umentary style fiction films.
I disagree.
Had this keychain for years, I forget where I got it. Anyway, it sums a lot up in a far more concise way than I ever managed to on my own.
This blog is something of both background and introduction to the (fictional) (fantasy) world of Bennuma, to contain things such as historical notes, facts, legends, fables, myths, or other sorts of stories or longstanding traditional tales, as told from the point of view of people from the world of Bennuma.
Less of an exhaustive compendium and more like a selection of excerpts pulled from various sources and abridged, translated, or otherwise compiled into what is hopefully a beginner-friendly form.
To begin with, and until otherwise noted, this blog is to be written from the point of view of Hadimer, someone who was in many ways one of the most notable scholars in the later ages of a particularly significant Life of the world of Bennuma, writing during what later would be designated as the time of the IceGem.
Also note, Bennuma is what can be called a Phoenix World, which means that it literally is destroyed and remade from time to time and in between these destructions, each is referred to as a different Life of the world, or WorldLife. Some are very different in many ways, though it is the same world and many things will be the same. Some WorldLives are very similar to each other, having very similar things happen at similar points in the Life of the world. Note that these cannot properly be considered to be parallels, because they aren't happening at the same time in different universes (nor can one expect to find parallel versions of the same people, etc.) but it literally is the same planet re-made, in the same place of the same universe, only at a different point in time. (it's not a sci-fi multiverse parallel worlds thing) (nor can one expect individuals to be re-incarnated into parallel versions of themselves or any other form, from one WorldLife to the next... that's a thing for other worlds, not this one. In the rare instances where anyone might come back to life, it won't be via re-incarnation... and even if it looks like an exception where it might be re-incarnation, it technically isn't... unless it is an exception to the exception and really is, but that would be something that would never happen... unless it might if there were one exception to it, but even then, it might not really be that after all.)
Oldschool Fairy Tales from pre-industrial times: "These are cautionary stories for all ages, and also reminders that sometimes life is terrible for no good reason at all, or just makes zero sense."
Fairy Tales from the 1900s: "These are kids' stories where we try to teach that everything in life has meaning and moral lessons, and that if you work hard, believe in yourself, and are basically a good person, then you WILL be successful in life."
Me now: "The oldschool nonsense tales had it right, and basically all the other stuff is a lie."
(To be fair, I do believe that people should work hard, should believe in themselves, and should be basically good people because those are things that make life tolerable... I'm just convinced now that doing those things is no guarantee of success and that "anyone who says differently is selling something"
...also, I think it's weird when people make edits that seem to suggest that statement is in any way inspirational. It's not 'inspiring', it's just realism. It may be comforting sometimes to know that life is terrible for a lot of people out there and even if a person's suffering is unique to them, they're still not the only one suffering... but to act like that's uplifting in some way is weird to me.)
Because @haleywhaley2797 's response was amusing, and so are cosmic rainbow cats. :D
In response to @haleywhaley2797 's comment on the "Read the Fine Print (if you can) writing prompt posted in @voice-of-bennuma wherein it was suggested that when an artist drank an unknown potion and was about to be possessed.... it was a cat that was summoned who desired tuna, tuna art.
"The looming cosmic psychedelic hyperdimensional galactic space kitty has caught you spying. What will you do?"
...maybe someday I might draw a better looming space kitty... this quick doodle doesn't do justice to how it looks in my head, ha.
(mixed media; was pencil sketched and then drawn over with size S pitt artist pen and colored with metallic color permanent marker pens, colored sharpies, and colored pencils (crayola). Slight digital adjustments in color and contrast and cropped photo)
This is how I always want to be.
(oops, so... I accidentally re-blogged this to my other blog, when I meant to send it here... so apologies for me being clumsy but I will try to delete it from the other one so I can keep my wip book blog uncluttered)
