Starry-eyed.

A little something different! Wanted to mess around with pleasing line shaping and silhouette within a constrained square. It’s very loosely my character Innocence/Val, if you squint and use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

In Danish folklore, the valravn is a supernatural bird that can take on the form of a knight or a wolf. They were first mentioned in the 1800s, when it was said that ravens who feasted on the bodies of dead kings or chieftains would become valravne.

Valravne are often described as malevolent creatures, leading people astray and causing harm or even death. Some say they are restless souls who can only free themselves from their animal forms by consuming the blood of a child.

Really enjoyed painting this! I find the Nachtkrapp very fascinating, it's my favorite Austrian folklore creature. Second favorite would probably be Perchta. Speaking of whom, an illustration I painted of her will be published soon by one of my dream publications! Please stay tuned 👀

A legend of the European and the Northern lands, this creature would instill terror in the hearts of the children who would not slip into bed in time. Certain tales claim that it’s terrible form bears holes in the eyes and wings, which would spread ill fortune, disease, and even death to those unlucky enough to stare into them.
