“The soldiers shot me, arrested me, removed my hijab, and subjected me to a strip search. Then I was sentenced to 9 years in prison.”

Arrested in 2015, Freed captive Rawan Abu Ziyada spent more than 8 years in captivity before she was released in captives exchange deal. [source: @ Palestinecapti1 on X. 12/09/23.]
“For years, I did not hug my mother at all, and they only allowed me once during the 9 years of captivity.”

While Rawan’s father was deprived of seeing her throughout her detention, due to the occupation’s refusal to grant him a permit to visit her.

End the occupation, ceasefire permanently, free all Palestinian prisoners, and free Palestine!! The IOF are full of depraved monsters.

clarisse's actress is beautiful and while i do wish she was butch or more masc presenting, in some ways i actually like this better for her overall characterization because it brings more validity to the fact that she desperately wants her fathers love but she is not her father's son and so she'll never be enough for him, because she's not big and strong looking or gruff, she is everything she hates.

Like yes, im sorta sad she wasn't cast plus size and masc like how she was coded in the books. But having her be the antithesis of what Ares would value makes her being a bully and so angry and so desperate to prove herself that much more compelling

shoutout to dior goodjohn's scream of anguish when percy broke clarisse's spear in 1x02. it was so striking from a character who has otherwise been very cold and controlled. she made it instantly clear that the spear was something special to her and the knowledge that it was a gift from her father places a whole new perspective on her bullying. she too, like luke, is pursuing her own form of ruthless glory. and she, like percy, is a child suffering from her father's neglect, desperate for recognition. a tiny moment but very impactful.

canonically the way athena’s kids are born in PJO is literally insane what do you mean athena takes an interest in a smart human and then a child just shows up on their doorstep like annabeth is literally the immaculate conception SHE’S JESUS?! imagine you charm a woman with your insane autistic rizz about a topic bc you’re an Intellectual and the next day you HAVE A CHILD IN A BASKET ON YOUR DOORSTEP?! also that means PJO-verse Athena DECIDES to CREATE A CHILD FROM HER THOUGHTS whose whole life is about to be suffering and may not survive. like she may be the most darksided olympian

It Took The Ocean, The Greater Opponent, To Just Hold Me Under And Say, It’s Really Horrible. And Sons

it took the ocean, the greater opponent, to just hold me under and say, it’s really horrible. and sons have been losing their mothers for thousands and thousands of years, and they will continue to, and you’ve just been initiated into that awareness and into that reality. some illusion has been lifted. you’re in a realer version of the world now, and it’s painful. (—andrew garfield)

Extract from Refaat Alareer's course on English poetry in 2019:

"Of course we always fall into this trap of saying, 'she [Fadwa Tuqan] was arrested for just writing poetry!' We do this a lot, even us believers in literature. [We say] 'Why would Israel arrest somebody or put someone under house arrest, she only wrote a poem?' So we contradict ourselves sometimes; we believe in the power of literature changing lives, as a means of resistance, as a means of fighting back, and then at the end of the day, we say 'She just wrote a poem!' We shouldn't be saying that. Moshe Dayan, an Israeli general, said that 'The poems of Fadwa Tuqan are like facing 20 enemy fighters.' Wow. She didn't throw stones, she didn't shoot at the invading Israeli jeeps, she just wrote poetry. And I'm falling for that again—I said she just wrote poetry.

And the same thing happened to Palestinian poet Dareen Tatour. She wrote poetry, celebrating Palestinians' struggle, encouraging Palestinians to resist, not to give up, to fight back— She was put under house arrest, she was put into prison for years. And therefore, I end here, with a very significant point: Don't forget that Palestine was first and foremost occupied in Zionist literature and Zionist poetry.

When the Zionists thought of going back to Palestine, it wasn't like 'Oh, let's go to Palestine.' It took them years, over 50 years of thinking, of planning, politics, money and everything else. But literature played one of the most crucial roles here.

Palestine in Zionist Jewish literature was presented to Jewish people around the world... [as] Palestine is a land without a people for a people without a land. Palestine flows with milk and honey. There is no one there—so let's go. [but] there were people—there have always been people in Palestine. But this is an example of how poetry can be a very significant part of life." [13:05-14:40]

percy saying "i'm sally jackson's son!" is so........ it squeezes my heart so much. and i get it i get it. imagine your father neglecting you, his son your whole life and going to a camp that he wants to you to go to, being told he's a god, being told everyone in that camp is a demi-god -- and all of those children barely get to talk OR EVEN MEET their parental figure. how do you, how do you, how do you not break down. he's so strong

Annabeth’s got a plan. Percy’s on it. When it’s time, he’s gonna be ready. I know it.

percy making a burnt offering for his mother. clarisse screaming in anguish as percy destroys the only thing her father gave her. annabeth putting on her cap, and saying "a gift from my mom." luke having that hateful lilt in his voice when he said that hermes was his father. chris rodriguez's little "they like the smell of begging." when percy asks about the burnt offerings they have to make for the gods. i am unwell.
