Ok, gonna talk about my Trans experience real quick. Because with second puberty, all of this changes again. So on top of the trauma, I am spending my early 20's actually being a teenager, both mentally and hormonally, while also having a college degree and having like a real person job.

This makes hitting "normal adult" milestones that much harder, and its just been such a struggle.

I’m a teacher of Classical Civilisation that has taught the Odyssey for over a decade and studied pretty much every myth and story with Odysseus in it.. I think

and I’m writing an Interactive Fiction (choose your own path) version of the Odyssey, inspired by the Homeric phrase “he turned his great heart this way and that”, where you are Odysseus, allowing you to follow his decisions or make your own

and it already has 500 sections to it - written to emulate modern translations of the Odyssey, including the literary features of simile, formula, epithet, and the rest - and 21 different ways to die, and quite a lot of period and theme-appropriate alternatives

(and if I get time, the option to be Telemachus or Penelope, although that might have to wait because it’s already a monster)

and I’ve tested what I’ve made so far on my pupils, other Classics teachers, and some of the leading (and best-read) Greek Mythology podcasters and YouTubers, all of whom have universally loved it (yay!)

(EDIT: Oops and I presented on it at the Classical Association conference last year)

I’m trying to finish it this summer, but need a bit of encouragement to do so

For anyone who needs to hear this (myself very much included). You are worth it.

This is your reminder that every breath you take under a system that wants you dead is an act of defiance. If you are a woman, trans, black, brown, indigenous, AAPI, two spirit, Jewish, Muslim, disabled, poor, gay, an immigrant, or any combination of those groups or other marginalized groups I'm forgetting to mention, every piece of joy and peace you find in a country that will not protect you is revolutionary.

Give yourself time and space for your anger, channel it into donating or volunteering or even just supporting vulnerable individuals in your communities. But also give yourself time and space for joy, to take a deep breath. Take care of yourself. Brush your teeth, take a shower, eat, take your meds, check in with yourself. Honor your culture in some way, pray to your ancestors or to your deities, make cultural art, or comfort food. Go get a tattoo, or a piercing, or dye your hair. Find ways to remind yourself of your power, wherever you may draw it from. Turn off the news, at least for an hour or two. Watch a few episodes of a stupid TV show. Watch something that will make you laugh. Read a few chapters in your favorite book. Take a walk. Literally smell some roses. Anything that will give you strength to keep going, anything that will give you any small spark of hope or joy.

Activism is important. Getting in the streets is important. Donating to abortion funds is important. But you will not have the energy to do those things effectively if you do not give yourself grace. If you do not honor your emotions and the time you need to feel them. Constant exposure to stress is not healthy for anyone. Don't burn yourselves out, try to find a balance that works for you.

You are spiting the system by simply keeping yourself alive. So make that your priority first. Get your strength up, get your head straight, if you can. We need you at top condition (whatever that means for you) for what's to come. We need everyone.

Recently, I was over at my aunt n uncle's house, and he was getting rid of a bunch of old clothes. I had just come out at this point, and a lot of my family was struggling with accepting me. But my aunt handed me the basket of things to go to goodwill and told me to take whatever I wanted from it.

I've always admires his style. He's a STEM college professor and always wears the coolest button-downs and blazers. And now I have a Ton of them!

I dont know, but the support meant a lot to me, and means I now have a professional masc-presenting wardrobe.
