used pen instead of pencil today, i liked it. did 1 hour practice and then some 10 minute pics. some pics are bad (mostly the penultimate one) but mostly i am satisfied and had fun.

my friend persuaded me to use a liner instead of pencil this time. it sucked lol, i did everything wrong: starting from bad lines and ending by worrying too much about the lines and no possibility to use eraser i forgot about the line of action and messed up the proportions big time. for the last one he proposed using pen so it would be a bit easier than liner. it was a bit easier and actually enjoyable. i messed up the buttock shading and tried again, but messed up face this time (as well as the shape in general) so after the timer reached the limit i drew shades on her and sent her to a tropical resort just to have a bit fun. i also tried a new way of shading in the liner sketches, doesn't look good yet but i will try more.

i started this little sketch/practice diary with intention to post no matter how bad the pic is, so this is the reason im posting it.

how to post a sketch:

1. draw it

2. take a picture

3. compare to the reference

4. find gajillion mistakes

5. try to fix it

6. unless too fed up with it, return to step 2

7. try to fix it with some details you don't really see on the reference but that would convey the thing

8. take a picture

9. congrats on noticing some parts are weird, fix it and return to step 8 unless it's no fun anymore

10. now you're less satisfied with it than you were before taking the first picture, but it looks a lot better

11. the picture angle is wrong btw or it's blurry, retake (:

14. fix some stuff, take another pic and edit your post

i feel vain doing all that just to post my doodles but it is worth it bc i'm glad i like them and would like to post good clean photos. also it's fun to compare the first and the last version

miller redraw as a treat to myself

pros: easy to understand (i hope so at least) proportions, hence fun to draw

cons: the model looks bad lol, i like mgsv miller design with the new hairstyle and stylish clothes but is that really how some people's stubble grows?

head practice. my skill sucks so far but i enjoyed it and we'll get there. now it's even possible to see the emotions. might or might not do figure drawing practice after this

tried to draw more women, as previously planned. i specifically focused on not drawing tiny feet again and did it anyway :')

still learning to draw faces with acceptable accuracy. not much progress today, some just look bad and others don't resemble the model, but i kind of like how i did the 35 minute lady face.

just to represent the opposite opinion i'll note that i enjoyed vr missions a lot and side missions (except "eliminate gajillion tank chopper units that are almost the same" in pw) are often more fun than main plot missions to me

today's results are bad ngl but i'm glad i did it anyway. got a lot of men pics for the last sketch lately, so today i skipped pics until there was a woman. didn't draw her nice but whatever. both of my common issues - small feet and too long torsos - are present. this is supposed to be a bad art diary to make other people less shy, so here it goes. also i liked the shorter sketches (pics 1 and 2).

the most cringe are the 3-5 minute ones below:

mb i should practice drawing women specifically. although might take a break from drawing - or not, will see how it goes.

this was a fun study. i think i'm finished with this photo, might try different ones in the future. looks a lot less white washed to me (or did look at some point, lol), although he still has the white man stare (one eye at least) and his lips are too full, as well as many other minor mistakes. anyway i improved and i'm glad.

i should do a challenge "draw every time you hear an explosion or anti air defense sounds" while i'm here, lol. wanted to stay at a friend's place overnight but returned home before curfew to do line of action (bc i would have just chatted with him the whole time otherwise), an hour later there was an explosion not far from him. could've witness the action from the front row if i stayed, but parents would know where i am and would worry and it's nothing i haven't seen before anyway, so no regrets. i write stuff like "lol" or "action" but just to be clear - it is not fun and people get hurt and die and lose their possessions such as home, don't be a war victim if you can and definitely don't go and be an occupant in foreign country, you are not welcome and no possible repercussions for draft evasion or defecting are a valid reason to do that.

anyway, noticed that i gave the guy few extra ribs only on shading stage when there were 4 minutes left, decided to not fix it. both proportions and shadings are a bit off today, i should pay more attention next time, but it seems the faces are improving. i try to make sure i draw the face during figure drawing if there's enough time. the last pic is faces only study i did yesterday after figure drawing - most of them are very bad but i liked 3 of them.

i will try to ask my friend to pose for me. tried that with another friend a while ago and the results are nothing to share; i hope now my skill is good enough.

today i joined my friends late (on 5 minute stage) and after they finished did another 1.5 hours by myself (and then spent some more time on the final thing). tried drawing the final guy bigger (since drawing his legs is my best skill so far anyway lol) and focus on the face - and mb for the first time i like how it turned out, everything is more or less where it should be and the drawing even looks like the model! i am glad and post a closer photo of the face alongside the full pic.

almost all the other ones are bad, some that i don't post are even worse than what you see. it's combination of skill issue and being distracted by talking to mom and also explosions. visiting grandma and getting the full odesa experience - while i was drawing these an air raid was going on and apparently some house where people live was hit - i think it was far away from me though bc the sound wasn't loud. will monitor the news tomorrow and donate blood if my blood type is needed - or probably will do it anyway bc just yesterday was another "incident" (as in russian drone) where people got hurt and it's unlikely it will stop soon.
