Sympathy and pity came to Aurora in droves, and if she’d had even half of the arrogant pride that she’d possessed only months before, it would have made her sick. Now she was too tired to care, too knowledgable of how easily it was to lose all of it - all of them. The last time something similar to this had happened to her, Aurora had spent so long cold and dead to then all but explode with vengeance towards Titania, spurred in that direction by Fen’harel and her own bubbling resentment and overwhelming grief. But she wouldn’t allow herself to make that mistake again. When her time to explode came, it would be in a rage directed rightfully to Ayi’ig. She could save it until then, let it fester in her chest as she went absently through the motions of surviving each day.

Robin’s appearance was reminiscent to her of Fen’harel, the other Autumn Chancellor that had come to her in concern for her well-being. How so much had changed. Aurora had been looking out at the Winter fey working on bringing down that ridiculous statue that Laer had encouraged them to put up. She’d probably have them store it in some cave. But now she turned her attention to Robin as she came up the steps and spoke. “Sure,” she replied softly. No joy but no annoyance either. It was inevitable that they spoke. “… Though I know you’re sorry for what happened and I appreciate any concern you might have, I would prefer not to dwell on my state right now. I promise you enough other people are caring.”

...

Aurora’s permission is all she needs to walk to the other’s side and set the basket delicately by her side, occupying her hands on opening the cork. The movement pulls slightly at the new scar that occupies her stomach, but not enough for her to show any sign of pain. It has been long enough that the scar is almost fully healed, long enough that it will soon enough be nothing but a reminder of humanity’s worst. A reminder that trusting humans is a foolish endeavor and to believe on her instincts rather than on her whims. A reminder that as a Chancellor, her own desires do not matter, she must destroy anyone who wants to harm her people before they can attempt to do so.

“You have no idea how much I wish I could use sarcasm the human way right now,” Robin offers flatly as she uncorks the cider and hums a melody to create two glasses, filling them up with it and offering one to Aurora. “Are we not friends? Are we not fellow Chancellors? Do I not have the right to be concerned? Or do you not consider my concern as truthful as you would want because you only see me as Fen’harel’s failure of a replacement, Aurora?” The last question is asked flatly. All she had wanted was to ensure that her friend was alright, and yes, she understands the distress Aurora has suffered is unspeakable, but she has always been confrontational and the sense of betrayal is too fresh, the thought of her weakness too heavy, for her not to default into her old instincts. She regrets the words as soon as they leave her lips, though, and she sighs, a hand raising to rub her eyes tiredly. “Apologies, everyone is on edge right now, including me, but I should not have said that.”

who? @lainxsolus where? near the stage, in a little alcove

"Excellent performance, sweetheart," Robin offers as she tugs at the chain wrapped around Lain's neck, pulling him towards an alcove she had scouted before the play had begun. Once they are hidden from view, she reaches up an places a hand on the back of Lain's neck, pulling him down for a quick kiss before pulling away and sending him a mischievous grin. "Reminds me of William's first production of Hamlet, full of enthusiasm and passion for the craft. Definitively something worth rewarding."

Aurora takes the glass, silently grateful to have something to occupy her hands and to have something to burn her throat. She takes a sip as the other speaks, hesitating only when Fen’harel was mentioned. Her eyes fell. As she took the glass away from her lips, her gaze finally returned to Robin. “Please… I’ve always counted on you to speak your mind. Everyone else is walking on eggshells around me and I-” She sighed. “I understand. But it’s very difficult to try to come back to myself when no one else is doing it.” She ground her teeth nervously, turning away, pacing very slowly. “If it’s any comfort for you, Robin, I don’t think you’re a failure of a replacement. You’ve held your Court together. You’ve managed to despite never being groomed to do it, despite perhaps the worst travesties we have endured as a people in… millennia.”

image

...

“If you want me to speak my mind, then you are going to have to accept my kindness and empathy, neither of which are a weakness, as brief as they are, because ignoring tragedy does not help, and you know this,” Robin says pointedly, the allusion towards her own brothers demise vague enough that most would miss. Not Aurora, though, not when they had known each other for so long and the other was aware of the reason why Robin had become involved with the hunt for the Eye in the first place. “I have managed yes, but managing is not enough when we are facing our current threats. I have to do better, be better, but I lack the training and the person who could have trained me is a traitor and no longer part of the Court. Whatever legacy there is for the Fall Chancellor is one that I have to learn without training.”

Food was always the way to his heart, so Robin was right to suggest it to him. It was incentive enough for Assan to continue attending, that and he liked fantasy and roleplay. It was absolutely not reason for him to organize any of the gatherings though, Assan would leave that to the professional people gatherers. He felt fortunate that Robin never seemed to have much of a problem understanding him, perhaps that was owed in part to her clairvoyance. That seemed to be a trademark among some of the fey. As carefree as Assan came across, it wasn’t all sushi rolls and smiles. Everyone had their struggles, everyone had their conflicts. “Salmon,” came the easy response as if to say that she didn’t need to worry about him.

image

...

“The gods are turning their eyes to this realm, Assan. Worry is not something I can let go lightly,” she reminds her with a sigh. Problems kept pilling up like an abnormally dangerous Jenga tower and pretending that they are not is not something that she is capable of doing. Not when it is clear that the smallest of nudges might bring the entire tower crashing down in a tragic manner. Robin can’t help everyone, can’t protect them all, but she has to try to protect those she cares about. Has to try and protect her court too, before everything else. But if she can, she will protect her best friend too, as best as she can. “But do not take as me not trusting you, I know you can take care of yourself. I just. Well, with everything I cannot help the worry.”

Her presence on the Winter Solstice chiding is not required, but she can read between the lines and knows how highly encouraged it is. The Courts need to believe that there is nothing wrong, they need to believe the Chancellors are calm and carefree. Robin can act the part, but truly, her eyes keep flitting around the crowd, looking out for any attack or any of the sort. Despite her worry, Mery’s presence is more than welcomed. It’s been months, but it is always a relief to see him whole and hearty after Halloween. A smile on her lips, she reaches out with one hand and gives him a half hug before looking down at his drink with curiosity.

“What did you get? I haven’t gotten around to get anything just yet,” she says idly, eyes flickering around the crowd once more before returning to Mery as she grimaces. “Please, don’t say the p-word. I think I am going to pavlov train myself to gag at it by accident. It’s interesting and all but there is so much of it.”

Her Presence On The Winter Solstice Chiding Is Not Required, But She Can Read Between The Lines And Knows

@thegoodfellow

Mery had only recently left the Spring Court for the party, and while he was usually in high spirits, his anxiety was through the roof at the moment. It wasn’t until he spotted a familiar face that some of it relented, and the eladrin weaved his way through the crowd untouched and unseen until he was in front of Robin with a smile on his face. “Cheers? I found a drink finally, and it’s not near as good as what I could make back home, but it’ll do for our mini celebration of your promotion. Enjoy the paperwork. I hear it’s magical but still not that fun.”

Meryasek’s magic was spread throughout the forest. He’d ingrained a bit of his own song into the flowers, into the trees, whispers that would give him news, tell him what was wrong, and that’s exactly what had happened, now. Robin was in trouble, and maybe he was too hyperaware of the fey now – he didn’t think twice about using his magic to transport him across the forest, standing now above Robin. The Fall Chancellor was weak, her blood spilling into the fauna below her, and he kneeled beside her, “You’ll be fine,” he murmured, mostly to make her relax. “Who did this to you?” he asked, his hand coming to rest above hers. Blood seeped between his fingers, but he began his healing song, the wound slowly but surely stitching itself up. She would be weak, still, but no longer in danger. “Tell me.”

...

Meryasek:

“Someone who I thought I could trust,” she gasps out as magic begins filling her, healing her, faster than she would have been able to do alone and panicking. As much as Robin had witnessed combat before, but it had never been as real. Not when no one could get close enough to wound, not when her magic could always protect her. The Autumn Court was meant to be one for guile, for trickery and strategy, they were not warriors, they were mastermind, always counting the grain to ensure they would survive the Winter, and she had grown complacent on that role. But no longer. She needed to learn how to fight beyond her magic. “I will not make that mistake again, but they are too useful to kill just yet.”

Apart from her worries centering around Eric’s lack of immortality, Èdelie’s in a dashing position. Her work life remains the same and she’s encountered several meaningful relationships due to her transition; her overall placement in life seems set. “I’m less confused as a fey versus when I was halfblooded. There’s more of a community which is unfortunate, but the halfbloods are beginning to get their well-deserved recognition day by day,” she replied, sincerely rooting for their success. “I’d have wine to mellow down when I was halfblooded and still do. I’m not heavily dependent on alcohol, though, so whether the tolerance is there or not doesn’t bother me.”

...

Edeliexii:

“That is an excellent view of it, I am glad you are a ‘glass half full’ kind of person. We do need more of those around,” she smiles softly at the new eladrin — Èdelie, was it? — , approving of her behavior. Much had changed for the young woman, and yet she seemed nearly unbothered by it. Of course, it could be that they had just met and she is yet to be privy to her deepest desires, but until she is shown evidence to the contrary, she will just assume the Winter Court has gotten lucky and gotten another functional fey amidst them now. “And I do agree, there is much more of a community than with the halfblooded, and yet I cannot help but hope things continue to improve for them.”

“And I suppose that is a good way to see it, but I admit I do enjoy complaining about not being able to get drunk with human alcohol so you might hear me say a thing or two about that.”

A low whistle leaves Wade, drumming his hands on the table as if it would aid him in formulating any response or retort of comfort. He’s at a loss, he’s not entirely familiar with fey business, never really had to concern himself with them before. Robin had dished out all he needed to know, how they were capricious but relatively harmless at the end of the day and merely, much like everyone, solely out for their own kinds survival. From what Wade had gathered, it seemed the fey simply wanted to be left to their own devices, but he knew such sentiment could not encompass the entirety of the species and that was where betrayal and shit became a dark and slippery slope. “Robin, you ain’t gonna have some target on your back for bein’ forced to take some chick’s job, are you?” Well, a larger target then the one she inherently created considering her own age and ability to meddle. “And how come you didn’t come to me about all that?” Being hunted, it allows him to recall the moment they first met when he’d almost jabbed her with his fucking iron switchblade under the false pretense that she was a demon. How far they’d come since then and though this was no time to condemn her when she appeared so emotionally wounded and fragile, Wade had felt almost offended at the idea that she would have rather faced such problem by herself. He can be a bit thick headed and even through his concern for Robin and his mild offense he still can’t rouse the obvious fact that she was trying to poke at the elephant in the room, his affiliations with a certain group that hunted all supernaturals.

...

Wadecalhoun:

“Wade, dearest, I have had a target on my back for years, my new role has merely increased other parties’ interest,” she begins, voice slow and deliberate as she reaches for the warmth of her drink and raises it to her lips to take a long and silent sip. There is an eternity of legends and stories behind her worries, the fear of the dark that her kind carries woven into her very essence with the knowledge of the drows that will never stop hunting them. Worry circles her chest, weights her tongue as she speaks, even as fondness shines through. Even as she wants to reach and bring him closer, even as she wants to reach out and hope. He is worried, before all, he is concerned. And yet,  Robin knows Wade. Has known him since he attempted to kill her, believing her a demon and nothing else. Dearest as he is to her, she knows him enough of his faults to know that he had not caught her indirect. The desire to reach out, the hope, does not fade, but her loyalty to her people prevails and tentative thoughts turn into tentative words. It’s like walking up to the precipice, the knowledge that if she pushes she might not get an answer that she wants. Robin doesn’t know if she can handle the truth for herself, doesn’t know if she can handle another betrayal. If it were for her and her alone, she would not continue. But the truth is not for her satisfaction, not for her peace of mind: the truth is to protect those she has sworn to defend. “If it’s not the Eye, it’s the drows, shadow creatures wearing the faces of those we once loved. My kind’s very existence is in danger, and I do not know who to trust. I cannot bring anyone I care for into this, I cannot bring you into this Wade, not when my kinds protection is not your cross to bear.”

"Good," Robin purrs, content on the confirmation. Another piece falling into piece, another siren to lure the unwitting sailor down to the depths. A hard job for the wolf before her perhaps, but one that must be done. She, herself, already has second thoughts about the whole matter, but war demands sacrifice, and her desire to destroy the Eye and get revenge for her brother had not diminished through the years. Instead, it had grown stronger, the rage too powerful to be contained the longer it goes unaddressed. "It will be my pleasure to work with you, Miss Titus. I will be keeping in touch, but if you are ever in need of my services, do not hesitate to find me in the Autumn's Field."

“Splendid. I will work on this misdirection on my part too, but please do be subtle. Wade might not be the sharpest tool in the box but he is not an idiot either.” At least not most of the time, and she cannot risk such a fruitful connection into the Eye to be alerted that he is being used. The hunter had made his bed and then believed a mere apology would be enough to brush it all aside when he would never forgive the creature that had destroyed his family. “He has to believe that he has been forgiven, so that he doesn’t suspect anything we do. For that, if you currently have a good relationship with him, you might need to maintain it. Can you do that? Can you lie to him?”

It’s an intimating question as they carried on their affair under a cover of oblivion until the obvious couldn’t be ignored any longer and it fell apart from there. Love had never been involved but it had been a connection of some sort of intimacy and Flora had always been a compassionate, empathetic person so to look someone in the eyes that she cared for and to lead them into the jaws of a trap was a dangerous game but she was with the wolves and the war wouldn’t go away quietly. She had to do horrible things in order to survive and protect her pack. “I’ll do it, whatever it takes. I won’t allow my pack to be snuffed out and to live in metal cages for the rest of their days. It’s for the greater good.”
