Dislike for mortals? A hundred, even a thousand years ago, the notion might’ve made Zahrya chuckle. After all, it made no sense to harbor negative emotions for creatures so far beneath him. Pity sure, but blatant dislike? He could’ve denounced the idea completely once, but truth is fluid and the mouth of his changeling remains open unspeaking for he can tell no lies.

“Until they are reminded of their place, the denizens of this realm should not expect any love from me. Either we can wait for that, or we can remind them ourselves.” When the changeling finally vocalizes Zahrya’s words, it comes out as a gravelly hiss. The vines wrapped around its body sharpen to points unintentionally and the air around him seems to vibrate, signs of the Chancellor’s agitation. “The old ways have gotten us this far. Abandoning them purely because they conflict with the state of this realm would be foolish.”

Though he calms himself as he pilots the changeling closer to Robin’s face. “What I desire most is the safety and longevity of our people. Anything more is a distraction. Duty and desire are one for me, I would gladly give my life to fulfill both.” It may not be what she wants to hear, but it’s his truth. If Titania asked him to fall on his sword right then he would without question. “You raise excellent points, but my knowledge and wisdom can be passed on. Perhaps flesh pleasures can help bring about an heir for my court, but I worry how I’d nurture the blossom properly outside of the maze…”

...

Zahryaofspring:

“Fear is likely not going to remind them of their place, simply plant the seeds of spite on their hearts,” she says slowly, words measured so that he recognizes their weight. If there is anything she has learned on her PhD program is that mortals are petty, no matter how much they deny it. Show something to fear and they will seek to destroy it. The Eye proves to be a great example of that. “Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the old ways meant for us to dazzle mortals with out feats not scare them?”

Robin is not sure, for she has heard her mother’s stories and she understands that at times her kind has done both, but it is worth asking, if merely to attempt to deescalate the situation. They are guests among the Pluto vampire’s, and bringing conflicts to their doors will only bring more trouble. Something the courts truly do not need.

“We are in troubling times, Chancellor. We cannot afford to lose our most powerful defenders and protectors with things as they are, and while it is noble that you would give your life to fulfill your duty, that is not what we need,” she begins, voice deliberate as she faces the Changeling with a mild expression. “We need leaders, and despite being able to pass on your knowledge and wisdom, leadership is a rather different skill, is it not?”

The expedition of Summer had seen great changes among the sands, high above the scorching fields rose pink clouds and spires of gold and silver, imbued with the light of the sun itself. It was a pale shadow when compared to the architecture of his Summer court, but it was a suitable place for his people to frolic while the creatures below meandered about the desert - searching for a hidden oasis while literal paradise loomed above them, eternally out of reach. The Fairy King’s forest had become more accessible as of late, to this end Laer wanted to make sure that the fey and the fey alone were permitted to step foot in his castle.

While Laer’s mind was encumbered, there was nothing that he would not have done to assist a fellow fey - particularly that of a chancellor when they came upon him to ask. Robin was the newest to the title, but not the youngest of the court. She had skills and experience that were an asset, as well as an intricate knowledge of the eye, something that would prove invaluable in the months to come. At least, that was Laer’s assumption. “These sands are as much your home as they are mine,” he hummed a note and made a gesture as some of the clouds descended around them, lifting them to the citadel in the sky where they could be more comfortable. “Tell me,” Laer offered as he sat at the table and gestured for Robin to make herself more comfortable, “what’s troubling you?”

....

Robin takes a second to gather herself, eyes wandering across the Summer’s Court new home, marveling at the delicate pink clouds and the elaborate spires born from them. Similar work had been done with the Autumn Field’s, the cabins and homes of her people hidden amongst the woods with her changeling hiding amidst the foliage to ensure her people’s safety. She had not been the one to organize the fields, however, that job she had delegated to one of the Autumn Court’s architects, and she wonders if she could have done as splendid of a job as the Summer Chancellor did or if she would have failed to fill the shoes Fen’harel had left behind once more.

“I am usually confident on my judgment of allies,” she begins to speak, words deliberate as she keeps her gaze on the view rather than on Laer. It’s less to avoid any sort of responsibilities at her words and more because she is ashamed of her lack of judgment and her stupidity when it had come to Wade. She had trusted him, loved him as the friend that he was, and blinded herself fully to the reality of his role. “But I made a mistake on who I should trust and I need to talk about it with someone, because the betrayal has left behind a enlarging ball of grief on my chest and I am aware I will only get rid of it if I talk about it. Alas, this will make me seem rather stupid, and I accept that fully.”

who? @zahryaofspring where? Laurelin, Audulë  notes: doing the randomize top songs thing and got emperor's new clothes by panic! at the disco

"I admit, it is rather impressive to have named yourself a god of fertility and have your Court accept it without complains," Robin admits idly as she comes to stand next to the Dawn Chancellor. Impressive, but ultimately rather annoying too, to see his delusions reach higher and higher everyday. Alas, they do need his expertise, so she can't help but hope that his delusions solidify into something more solid than his own children. It is all good to see more of his children running around, but they need an overall population boom as well. "I will not be praying to you, but I nonetheless hope that your will manifests in a boom of children in all courts."

"Well, that does complicate things," she admits slowly, yet reluctantly, eyebrows raising until they almost reach her hair. It's a rather scandalous bit of information, frankly, and she is aware that it will draw a great deal of negative attention towards Inan. Yet, for her the matter is simpler. The warder bond it's a great means to monitor a warder and wardee, and she has sensed the worry behind his words: Inan does not mean to betray her, and until that changes, she will not treat him any different. "For you, more than anything. We are both aware that public opinion is a fickle mistress, but I will not forbid you from meeting him if you desire."

"Well, That Does Complicate Things," She Admits Slowly, Yet Reluctantly, Eyebrows Raising Until They

"It's my brother, he's a drow. I think he might be the Court's spymaster: Somniar." Inan had brushed against him only briefly, but the man had not been far from the warder's thoughts since. "We haven't been in contact, save for one brief altercation before the war began, but I couldn't in good conscience continue on without telling you about the association." Many elves knew drow by virtue of their life cycle, but few were connected to those who'd ascended as far as the Court.

Her presence on the Winter Solstice chiding is not required, but she can read between the lines and knows how highly encouraged it is. The Courts need to believe that there is nothing wrong, they need to believe the Chancellors are calm and carefree. Robin can act the part, but truly, her eyes keep flitting around the crowd, looking out for any attack or any of the sort. Despite her worry, Mery’s presence is more than welcomed. It’s been months, but it is always a relief to see him whole and hearty after Halloween. A smile on her lips, she reaches out with one hand and gives him a half hug before looking down at his drink with curiosity.

“What did you get? I haven’t gotten around to get anything just yet,” she says idly, eyes flickering around the crowd once more before returning to Mery as she grimaces. “Please, don’t say the p-word. I think I am going to pavlov train myself to gag at it by accident. It’s interesting and all but there is so much of it.”

Her Presence On The Winter Solstice Chiding Is Not Required, But She Can Read Between The Lines And Knows

@thegoodfellow

Mery had only recently left the Spring Court for the party, and while he was usually in high spirits, his anxiety was through the roof at the moment. It wasn’t until he spotted a familiar face that some of it relented, and the eladrin weaved his way through the crowd untouched and unseen until he was in front of Robin with a smile on his face. “Cheers? I found a drink finally, and it’s not near as good as what I could make back home, but it’ll do for our mini celebration of your promotion. Enjoy the paperwork. I hear it’s magical but still not that fun.”

It’s a troubling situation across the board. Èdelie predicts things will likely become more gruesome as time progresses. While fairly new to all things fey, making the decision to try and destroy the crystal was the right thing to do. The plight she’s beginning to embrace is enough for her to shut down, gnawing at her lesser lip in response to Robin’s recommendation. “I don’t know,” she grumbled under her breath, agitated at the image of her engaging in conflict. “There has to be something we can do where self-defense isn’t necessary. I love… us; I love being a fey, and I’m undoubtedly hurt by what transpired, but this is too much to bear.” And it’s too much to process in such a short amount of time, pondering upon what she can do to help ease the situation. “It’s not my livelihood I have to take into consideration, it’s others I truly care about that need protecting. The question is if doing this is worth it.” Èdelie could promptly evaluation the necessary behavioral decision, imploring the risk factors of it all.

...

Edeliexii:

“I am afraid that it might be impossible to remain in the sidelines,” the words are delivered grimly, lips pressed together into a tight smile as her eyes wander away from the young eladrin. Words form and reform on her mind as the tries to encapsulate the true weight of what they are confronting without scaring the poor dear. Life has never been a fairy tale, and she knows Èdelie is aware of the fact. Robin doesn’t know, however, how well she understands the events on the horizon. Most mortals do not, and she was a mortal a mere months ago. It is heartwarming to see her resolve to help others, her resolve to protect and yet. “Unfortunately dear, it is our livelihood that you should take into consideration. Rome is besieged by enemies, yes, and everyone is at risk, but as an eladrin you are doubly so. Our kind is being hunted as we speak, and while we are setting up our own hunting party to counterattack this, that does not take away the risk for us. “

There is no sign of nervousness as she speaks, even though she would very much like to fidget. Instead, she tilts her head in consideration.

“And truly, Èdelie, we are at the precipice of war with multiple parties, I would dare to say that we are not doing enough, rather than we are doing too much,” the words are grim, but she cannot deny the truth to the young fey,  not when she is struggling to make a vital choice. “So to answer your question, the answer is yes. It is worth it.”

Because Èdelie is aware of the difficulties halfbloods experience trying to navigate life half human, half fey, she seeks to help them as much as possible while developing relationships and practical skills with fellow eladrins. She didn’t want to live a life shunning them, considering her current lifestyle equally as important to what it was before. “There’s a lot more needed around here, particularly inclusivity.” For a community that prides itself in the goodness of their nature, eladrins aren’t omitted from facing scrutiny on behalf of Èdelie. She’s not one to dance around what’s deeply rooted within her, and she didn’t particularly care if any others heard the disapproval hinted in her comment. Proceeding with her words, Èdelie also slipped out, “I don’t think I would’ve been able to successfully transition had it not been for Farenduil, either, so all of what I’ve done is credited to him.” He became more than a mentor at this point, refusing to acknowledge his lineage in her conversation because it’s not what solely defines him as a character.

Nonetheless, the brunette slowly reached forth for a light snack as a form of distraction, generating a few thoughts. “There’ll be no change unless we all work together… that means all feys being a lot kinder, gracious, and welcoming to the halfbloods. Because halfbloods matter, right?” Her lashes batted rapidly while waiting an answer, cheeks reddening to truly know Robin’s stance on the matter. “I think they’d be nice to drink with tonight despite us not getting drunk.

...

Edeliexii:

“Inclusivity does tend to make society better, yes,” she admits in amusement, lips pressing back the grin that is trying to spread through her lips at the young eladrin’s attempt to manipulate her true sentiments out of her with batted lashes and endearing demeanor. Robin doubts such manners would work with many of the more experiences eladrins, but the younger ones? Well, they were all suckers for a pretty face, her included. And truly, it is not as if she has disguised her own feelings about the matter at any point. Lauma’s dead had been tragic, unneeded, and so had been that of his lover and his children. Perhaps she puts her kind before the others, but she does care for other species, as confusing or infuriating she finds them at times. “Farenduil is an excellent friend to have, I agree. Our discussions about the week of the month are always a joy.”

Carefully, she brings her glass to her lips, and allows herself to grin at the attempts of manipulation. Truly, Èdelie is delightful on her attempts. How fun.

“Of course halfblooded matter, and it is rather disheartening that this conversation still continues unto the modern age,” she agrees easily, choosing to indulge the other with her truth. “The issue is convincing the old guard and those who listen to them. We are an old people, and while I am more than willing to share a drink with halfblooded, some would rather stick to their beliefs because caring for something fleeting is a challenge of it’s own.”
