daredevil is the first real tumblr fandom experience i’ve ever had, and it has been so fun! i love talking to people about headcanons and interpretations and everything under the sun, bc i care about and love dd so so much and i love sharing that love with people.
i feel super privileged to have joined right around when born again was in the works, so i’ve gotten to experience the pre born again era as well as the excitement of the new show coming out.
recently however, i’ve seen people being super hostile about other people’s opinions about the show, mostly regarding ships? maybe that’s normal for fandom behavior, but it’s so much less fun in my opinion.
i’m a big proponent for live and let live, ya know? i love seeing everyone be excited about their ships and hcs. i have to believe it’s possible to like something and express that without putting down another thing.
sorry for being complainy on main lol, i’m still getting my footing around here.
we all agree that wasn’t actually frank, right? it has to be one of the cops who idolize him or something. i refuse to believe that’s actually our frank.
andrew minyard character of all time. he's toxic. he doesn't talk to cops. he has an identical twin brother and they hate each other. he made his identical twin brother promise not to have any other friends and then doesn't even talk to him. he might be a misogynist. his only friends are a born-again lesbian who can beat him up, the runaway son of a yakuza-affiliated serial killer, and his therapist. he's a student athlete. he hates sports. he killed his mother. he's a Mean Girl who runs his friend group like a cult. he's a crim major for the bit. he has an eidetic memory. he's petty. he likes to get people gifts. he does coke sometimes but says it doesn't have any effect on him because he has too many mental illnesses. he's the love interest. he doesn't smile. he was right about wwiii. y2k goth. repeatedly risks his life to help people in situations that have absolutely nothing to do with him and says it's out of boredom. when they picked him up from the psych ward he got in the driver's seat and blasted screamo the whole ride back and didn't say a single word to anyone. oh my god he is exactly five feet tall. he's even gay
okay, i’ve rewatched episode one and i thought the bullseye fight was actually pretty good this time.
Matt listening to foggy and karen down on the street was good and karen being terrified to look at who fell off the roof was very well done.
i think i was just caught off guard by my expectations for it to be more like the netflix show, which isn’t entirely fair
daredevil has been a obsession for me for so many years and i’ve gotta give the new series more grace
DDBA SPOILERS!!! (episodes 1-2)
okay i have thoughts and none of them are in order and some aren’t very developed, but here they are so far:
-to start off positive, i like how matt’s blindness is being portrayed, maybe more than in the original. it shows how he is in fact visually impaired and that when he focuses on other things specifically he is affected by his blindness. (for example: episode 2 when he’s focusing on footsteps and almost gets hit by a cab)
-right off the bat, i knew we weren’t gonna get what we had in the original series. the opening shots and dialogue were too bright and clinical in my opinion, as is pretty common with disney.
-the fight with bullseye was not great. it fell pretty flat in my opinion, the way it was shot and played out was not very dynamic or intense. since it was the opening and set up a lot of things to come, it should’ve been more gripping. foggy’s death was not as heartbreaking as it should’ve been and matt trying to kill dex should’ve been a more intense shot.
-while the actors did an amazing job imo, the way it’s being filmed just lacks the grit and depth of the original series.
-that being said; matt crying on the roof did have me crying too, charlie cox is such an incredibly talented actor and even despite the flaws that opening scene had, he managed to pull me in and get me to care.
-there are moments and choices being made that i do like, and i’m sure i’ll enjoy the show even with the disappointing parts
-matt being framed in red light at the end of the first episode and the fight at the end of episode two that resulted with his daredevil yell were the most dynamic and classically daredevil moments and they give me hope
-also i was almost unable to pay attention to a single second of it because of how absolutely soulcrushingly and devastatingly attractive matt murdock is. it’s actually ridiculous.
*TLDR: i found the first two episodes of born again to be disappointing and not living up to the standards that we have come to know and love from daredevil. that being said; through the amazing acting from charlie cox and the maintaining of matt murdock’s character, as well as some promising new characters and arcs, i’m sure it still will be an enjoyable watch.
oh my goodness a hozier fan and a daredevil fan!!
yeah!! something something religious trauma and romanticism!!!
this is also so matt murdock coded
"You're losing blood" no I know exactly where it is. The floor. Don't ever underestimate me.
i'm actually very normal about most characters believe it or not, but when it comes it matt murdock i'm screaming into the void, chewing up the couch, and punching walls. he's so bullied by every single plotline. he's so pathetic. he's defined by so so much tragedy. he's such an asshole. he's plagued by catholic guilt. he is THE character. he's as beautiful as the day I lost him. i love him, your honor.

no canon fact will ever be as funny as ronan saying fuck it and going ham for six days a week, then slinking into church every sunday and apologizing to God for being so cocky, just to do it all over again
making my mom watch daredevil with me, and during the second episode she goes;
“i feel like everyone could be a love interest, he seems like he really gets around”.
she doesn’t know anything about dd but she clocked matt’s whoreishness IMMEDIATELY.
