🔮A Huge Tarot Master-Post🔮

Hello~ I figured I’d make my first master-post about Tarot! This is my interpretation, so I don’t ask that you just go by my word. It’s your path! I’m just here to try to help.

This will be VERY in-depth. So I apologize in advance for the lengthy post, but I hope it will help.

What is “Tarot”?

Personally for myself I see Tarot as a tool. I use it to help myself and others with some guidance with their lives; however, when it comes to Tarot, don’t let it rule over your decisions in your life. It is a tool but that does not mean that you should only go by what it says.

Types of Readings

There are two types of readings when it comes to Tarot: Question readings and Open Readings.

Question Readings

Just as the title says Tarot involves answering questions. Yes or No questions aren’t meant to be answered by Tarot. When it comes to Yes or No questions pendulums are used with their corresponding charts. Like I stated before, you shouldn’t use Tarot to make decisions but to guide you to help you make the decision yourself. The way a question is stated is important for Tarot readers. Here’s a few tips on what you should look out for:

🔮 Keeping your options open: If you already have an answer for your question, then you’re not really letting yourself allow the cards to guide your decision.  Asking how you could encourage your mother-in-law to move out, as opposed to asking how you can get along better with her, is narrowing the scope of the true question by answering it before you even get started.

🔮 Details: Your question should be focused, but not overly detailed. Rather than looking at one particular aspect of a problem, find a way to look more broadly at it. For example, rather than asking how you can make your home life less chaotic, ask how you can better balance work schedules and school schedules. That is a focused question. But do not go so far as to ask how you can coordinate baseball, soccer and karate schedules and still have family time – that’s too detailed. Only include the minimum level of detail needed in order to express what you want to learn from the cards.

🔮 Focus on Yourself: If the reading is for yourself, make sure your question focuses on you rather than on someone else who you think may be the root of your problem. If you’re wanting to help someone, for example, ask about what you can do to help them.

🔮 Stay Neutral: Basically be unbiased. Don’t come off with the notion that your POV is the “right” one. Asking why you’re always the one getting yelled at between you and your parent(s) isn’t neutral; instead, ask how you can prevent future arguments with your parent(s). That’s neutral!

🔮 Be Positive: When it comes to Tarot, and anything really, you’ll want to always try to be positive. Instead of asking why a specific event didn’t happen, ask about what you can do to make that event happen. Positivity is always great!

Open Readings

These are also known as “General” readings. They address the larger aspects of life rather than a question or a specific area. I’ve found that Past, Present, Future readings are very popular since it talks about people’s lives. They’re always eager to see if the cards can truly tell about their life! You can also direct the General readings towards a basic “genre”. Career, Health, Finances, Love, etc.

The Tarot Deck

There are many varieties of Tarot decks, and there is no standard number of cards across all decks. While the types of cards, the suits and their meanings are the same, the illustrations vary greatly. Decks are based on various themes such as nature, animals, fantasy, dragons, etc.

When it comes to finding a deck of your own, don’t just choose one based on the design. Focus on the connection between you and your future tool, your future guide. I have the Tarot Draconis Deck that called to me. It’s a beautiful dragon based deck that has connected with me. The bond we have today is inseparable!

I say “bond” because each deck has it’s own personality. That’s why Tarot readers do interview “spreads” to help them get to know their decks a bit better. I’ll explain spreads more thoroughly later on in this post. When it comes to their personalities, some decks are blunt, some are meant for giving other people readings and others could be laid back.

The Major and Minor Arcana

When you look through a Tarot Deck, there will be two different sets of cards: Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. Let’s look at the Minor Arcana first. You’ll find that like regular playing cards there are four suits; however, instead of hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs there are Wands, Pentacles (Circles), Cups (Chalices), and Swords. Each of these represents an element.

Each suit has meaning regarding a specific approach to life. The cards within these suits are numbered one through 10 and also include the court cards – the king, queen, knight and page (knave). The Minor Arcana cards represent the more minor, practical daily ups and downs in life.

The Major Arcana are not associated with the suits. They include the picture cards that represent principles, concepts and ideals. They are numbered one through 21, with the 22nd card (the “Fool”) marked as zero. The Major Arcana cards represent strong, long-term energy or big events in some area of life.

Minor Arcana and the Four Suits

As I stated before, each of the Suits represents an element. Let’s talk about each one and break down what they mean, as well as the cards within them. Then we’ll move on to the Major Arcana!

When it comes to the different cards, there are negatives and positives. When a card is upside-down, the term being “reversed”, then it represents negative attributes of that card. When it’s upright then it represents positive attributes.

For myself, I don’t read reverse cards. I base it on my intuition. I’ll explain how your intuition is used with tarot later on in this post.

Suit of Pentacles

🌱Also known as Coins, Disks, or Circles.

🌱Represents the element Earth.

🌱Covers material aspects of life including work, business, trade, property, money and other material possessions.

🌱 Pentacles deal with the physical or external level of consciousness and thus mirror the outer situations of your health, finances, work, and creativity. They have to do with what we make of our outer surroundings – how we create it, shape it, transform it and grow it.

🌱 On a more esoteric level, Pentacles are associated with the ego, self-esteem and self-image.

🌱 The positive aspects of the Suit of Pentacles include manifestation, realization, proof and prosperity.

🌱 The negative aspects of the Suit of Pentacles (i.e. when the Pentacles cards appear reversed) include being possessive, greedy and overly materialistic, over-indulging and not exercising, not effectively managing one’s finances, and being overly focused on career to the detriment of other life priorities.

Often what is required to counteract these negative aspects is a return to nature to ground oneself and rediscover what is truly important. In addition, there may be blockages in being able to manifest ideas and plans resulting in a lack of success. Better goal-setting and planning is required.

🌱 When referring to timing in a Tarot reading, the Suit of Pentacles traditionally represents Winter or years.

🌱 In a deck of playing cards, Pentacles corresponds to Diamonds.

🌫️ Action can be both constructive and/or destructive, sometimes resulting in violence.  This suit can also mean hatred, battle, and enemies, and of all the suits, this one is considered to be the most powerful and dangerous.

🌫️ The Suit of Swords deals with the mental level of consciousness that is centred around the mind and the intellect. Swords mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs.

🌫️ Swords themselves are double-edged and in this way the Suit of Swords symbolises the fine balance between intellect and power and how these two elements can be used for good or evil. As such, the Swords must be balanced by spirit (Wands) and feeling (Cups).

🌫️ The negative aspects of the Suit of Swords (i.e. when the Swords cards appear reversed) include anger, guilt, harsh judgement, a lack of compassion and verbal and mental abuse.

Major Arcana

The Major Arcana Tarot cards (also known as the trump cards) form the foundation of the Tarot deck and consists of twenty-one numbered cards and one unnumbered card (the Fool).

Tarot Spreads

Now that we’ve talked about the Minor and Major Arcanas, let’s talk about Tarot spreads! Before any Tarot reader does a reading, they shuffle their cards. This allows them to transfer their energy into the deck.

Once the cards are shuffled and the deck has been cut, the reader lays out the cards in a pattern called the spread. Each position in the spread has a meaning, and there are many different types of spreads, ranging from those that incorporate a single card to spreads that include all 78 cards of the deck. Which spread is used is up to the reader and the specific type of question or reading. Some spreads focus more on a specific type of information. For example, one spread might focus more on emotional matters, while another might bring in more information about the influences of others. One of the most common spreads is the Celtic Cross.

🔮A Huge Tarot Master-Post🔮

Interpreting the Spread:

Once the cards are laid out, their meanings are interpreted based on their positions and their neighboring cards. Let’s look at the Celtic Cross spread:

Begin by looking at the Circle/Cross section. The cards in this position represent what is happening in your life at the time of the reading.

Next, look at the first six cards in pairs. These cards paint a picture of your immediate situation. The cards in position 1 (the central issue) and position 2 (the secondary issue that can either be opposing or reinforcing) will identify the central theme of the reading. The cards in position 3 (the root cause that can be an unconscious influence or deeper meaning) and position 5 (your attitudes and beliefs, a conscious influence, your goal or an alternate future) represent things that are going on within you at different levels. And, the cards in position 4 (your past, a receding influence or something that has been resolved) and position 6 (the future or an approaching influence or unresolved factor) represent how people and events are flowing through your life.

Next, look at the Staff section of the spread, again considering cards in pairs. Looking at the cards in position 7 (as you are, as you could be, as you present yourself and as you see yourself) and position 8 (your outside environment, someone else’s point of view and you as others see you) tells you about your relationship with your environment.

Finally, look at the card in position 10 (the outcome-overall, your inner state, your actions or effects) to see the projected outcome.

Ask yourself how you feel about the projected outcome. What does it say to you?

Go back and review the cards that led up to that outcome, and see if there is a card that stands out as they key to that outcome. Then, look back at card 5 to see if the projected outcome is also shown as an alternate outcome there. Look at the card representing the near future in position 6 to see if it supports or contributes to the projected outcome. Finally, look at the card in position 9 (guidance, key factors, hopes and fears or overlooked factors) to see there is any relevance there.

This is one of many different spreads. You can even make your own spreads! Ultimately, start small and learn as you go. Spreads are very easy once you get the hang of it.

Intuition

Last but certainly not least, we’re going to talk about Intuition!

What is intuition?  A thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.

When it comes to Tarot cards, and giving out readings or doing one for yourself, intuition is key. Witchcraft in general involves intuition 9 times out of 10! For example, when I do my readings for people, I don’t just go by what the cards mean. I trust my intuition about what it means, with my gut feeling. If I feel it’s something to do with family, I go with it. If it has something to do with an important event coming up in the future, I trust it.

You may not get it down right away, and that’s perfectly okay! It’ll take some time to get it down pat. Just don’t forget to listen to your gut!

There you go! I hope this Master Post helps you guys learn a little more about Tarot. I’ll be posting another one later for in-depth descriptions of all the cards!

Brightest blessings!

How to Offer to the Theoi- a guide

How To Offer To The Theoi- A Guide

The Kylix of Apollo, where the god is depicted pouring libations from a phiale onto the ground. (A kylix is a type of phiale, so this is a particularly meta piece) Delphi, Greece, 460BC

The most historical offering to any of the Theoi are  θυμιάειν thymiaein (smoke), σπονδή sponde (libations of alcohol) and νηφάλια nefalia “calm” libations meaning non-alcoholic (such as milk, honey, water, etc).

How do I do smoke offerings?

There’s three ways, generally speaking. The gods take the smoke of any offering, so this could be:

A actual burnt offering, such as a piece of paper you wrote a poem on, burnt herbs (which this is where we get the English word THYME from because this was a popular herb to burn for incense), or food as it was cooking, because the smell of the cooking fire rises. It’s not mandatory today that you do burnt offerings because our houses are not built like the ancient’s were; fully ventilated.

The smoke of incense Historically this would have been done in a special incense burner called a thymiateria which are still used today in the Greek Orthodox church, but today any incense burner will do!

The steam from your food. The gods allow us to eat the physical food, and they take the non-physical aromas and steams, which is why aromatic spices are so important in ritual.

It’s important to wash your hands before offering; this is the god’s food, don’t make it germy please.

How do I do sponde and nefalia?

As before, you should have clean hands before you come to worship.

Pour your liquid out of its original container into a bowl. The container was historically called an oenokheo  οἰνοχόη “I pour wine”, and what you would pour it into was called a fiale or phiale φιάλη which we still have today in the archaic word for a vial, a phial.

Either before or after you pour, say a prayer, poem, hymn, or just greet your deity. Here’s a short example I’ll do now for Artemis Tykhe: Khaire oh great Tykhe! I pour this water for you, oh goddess of luck and fortune. Watch over us at this rite.

If you like, you can pour a cup of drink for yourself, but pour the one for the god(s) first. If you are worshipping multiple gods at the same time for the ritual, you only need one phiale.

When your ritual is done, you can say something to conclude; I use γένοιτό Genoito (pronounced Yen-ee-tu) meaning “may it be” or “it is so”, but conclude however you like. If I’m leading a rite in English I will say something like, “and this rite is ended.”

You may now drink from your cup if you poured yourself one, and dispose of the offerings in the phiale as you see fit. Its up to you and your god(s) whether you drink their share or not; some worshippers do, some don’t. A lot of people, including me, do sponde at the dinner table before they eat.

What’s the difference between sponde and nefalia? What’s the purpose?

Sponde is alcoholic usually, while nefalia never is! Nefalia is conducted the exact same way, but certain festivals and gods strictly forbid wine at their ceremony; Demeter’s mysteries is probably the best known example, but there’s many others.

Some historical options for Nefalia are water, honey, and milk, but if you can pour it, you can offer it!

What do I do for a Khthonic god?

Because Kthnonic (literally “of/below the earth”) gods are below ground, incense is useless to them. Smoke rises, and doesn’t reach them below the earth. Physical Kthonic offerings should be buried in a hole called a bothros  βόθρος (literally “pit”), or they should be burnt to cinders and the ash spread on the soil. I’ve seen some worshippers compost Kthonic offerings, which I think is a really cool idea.

If you offer food or drinks to the Khthonic gods, they don’t share! They get the entire sum of whatever you offer. Zeus will share a glass of wine with you, Pluton wants the entire glass.

Kthonic gods and heroes get a special type of libation called χεῦμα Khoe, “that which is poured.” Unlike sponde and nefalia, you absolutely do NOT drink this. It’s poured on the ground. Khoe is usually milk, honey, water, or sometimes very dark red wine.

How To Offer To The Theoi- A Guide

a bothros to Demeter  at the Temple to Demeter in the Valle dei Templi near Agrigento, off the coast of Italy

How do I know which gods are Ouranic or Kthonic?

Generally speaking if they’re not agricultural, related to death and disease, sleep, blood, or the soil itself, they’re seen as Ouranic or “heavenly”.

This distinction isn’t always black and white; because there are many among the Theoi that straddle the line and have aspects of both; Apollo for example is related to every criterion for a Khthonic god, but the majority of his worship is Ouranic. In cases like this, it comes down to the epithet (aspect or title) of the god that you’re worshipping. Apollo Soranus, a Roman underworld god, is Khthonic, but Paean Apollo the healer is Ouranic. You’ll have to do research on your own for what to do because there are thousands of epithets. Also note that Pluton (H@des) is often referred to with epithets like Zeus Below, Zeus Euboleus etc because it’s unlucky to speak his name outloud, so special care should be taken for research for either Zeus or Pluton.  With time you’ll have a pretty good sense of what to do, but to avoid overwhelming yourself, pick one or two gods and do research on one or two epithets and how they were worshipped.

it got a bit long but I think this about covers it, holler at me if you have questions, happy worshipping!

Ways the Gods Can Contact You

This is one of the most frequent questions I receive. Otherwise, I would not make this post. Worship is incredibly personal, and Gods usually contact you in ways that you don’t expect, or ways you didn’t realize until you look back on the past.

These methods listed are common ones that I often hear from others. Do not limit your communication to these steps.

You feel a very close connection with Them, even without legitimate reason. Some people feel a connection to Their area of rule (i.e. sea god for feeling close to the ocean). If you’re like me, you’ve felt drawn to a God and you don’t even know why. This could be the Gods trying to reach out to you.

A God sends you strong gut feelings. Before I devoteed to Hades, I gave Him offerings during every Sabbat. I can’t tell you why; I just felt like I needed to. One day, I thought of making an altar for Hades, and I immediately put aside all other thoughts and responsibilities, determined to create that altar. If you’ve experience similar gut feelings, that may be a God speaking to you.

Your favorites overlap. It sounds silly, but it’s an experience I’ve heard about from a lot of people. For example, if you’ve always felt connected to dogs, and feel drawn towards Aries, you might look up the correspondence of dogs and realize that Aries has a close relationship with dogs. A quick disclaimer: This doesn’t always happen, and it’s possible to feel attracted to a God you have little connectivity with.

Your environment responds to you when you speak with the Gods. During my first ever Wiccan ritual, the God spoke to me by raising the candle flame higher than any I’ve ever seen. I’ve felt the wind shift when I spoke to the Gods about change in my life. Changes like these could be signs of response, especially during a prayer or ritual.

You feel a response, similar to the last one, but more esoteric. Examples may include feeling a warm blanket on your shoulders, feeling yourself relax while speaking to the Gods, touching hands, or even smelling a certain scent from no obvious source.

You hear a response. In some cases you may actually hear a voice in your head when a God speaks to you.

The Gods come through divination, such as automatic writing, scrying, tarot, pendulum or omens. Certain signs or repeated animal sightings may also be a method of contact.

The Gods communicate through dreams, visions, meditation or hedge crossing.

Anything I missed? Please add on. And remember that these are simply examples. Listen to your instinct, and you’ll know. It may take some time.

I wish you a fun and rewarding path, lovelies! .+(´^ω^`)+.

Why water is not a "lazy" offering

Water was a requested topic and there was plenty of ways to tackle the topic. I’ve chosen this angle of approach because I know I’ve seen some people struggle with the idea. So let’s talk about it and give some context: if you’ve grown up with the luxury of always having had access to clean water, it’s something you take for granted. I urge you to think of the last time the water was shut off in your house for any reason and how it impacted your comfort.

Water in Ancient Greek life The Ancient Greeks did not have running water directly in their homes. In Athens, the first hydraulic project is dated between 546 and 527 BC. The city was supplied in water: they had functional lavatories, functional aqueducs and water pumps but those were public commodities, not private ones. In fact, Plutarch tells us that Solon, an Athenian statesman between the 7th and 6th century BC, encouraged individuals to build their own wells if they lived in an area that was not sufficiently supplied and had the right to ask their neighbor for about 40 liters of water a day and make provisions in case of need (Plutarch, Solon, 23).  Water safety was a legitimate concern, as it depended on the clemency of weather and could be jeopardized in emergency situations like wars.

The philosophy of water by Thales of Miletus (626/3-548/5 BC) Without going into the details of Thales’ thought, he theorized the idea that water was the fundation of matter and thus, is the first principle. It is through Aristotle that we know of this hypothesis. While a lot of the theory is scientifically wrong, I think the theory serves its role in showing us how much water mattered as a substance essential to life.

On a religious level Spring water is potable. It is its greatest difference with sea water, which while abundant, is not drinkable. Poseidon, as the master of seas and Zeus as the bringer of rains play an essential part in the natural cycle of water. Lack of water has catastrophic consequences on living things, and the Ancients knew that they relied on Zeus’ rains for their crops to grow, for their springs to be filled, for their cattle to feed and drink.

So when the Ancient brought water to the altar as an offering, they brought something precious. They sacrificed a substance that they relied on for their own survival. They knew that water supplies were not infinite and that the rains bestowed by Zeus allowed for their well to stay full.

Considering water as a “lazy” offering is just the epitome of privilege. The privilege of not having to worry about your access to water, the privilege of not having to wonder if the water coming from your tap is clean or not. All while forgetting that access to potable water is still a problem today for many. If what you see when you think of offering water is the easiness of turning on your tap and tossing a glass on your altar, then you’ve forgotten what your offering means.

hello! I'm new to the hellenic polytheist religion and I was wondering, how do I start prayers with my deity? I feel stuck because I'm not sure if I introduce myself and pray or just start talking to them casually? /gen I also love your blog!! its helped a lot and thank you!!!

Khaire (hello), Nonny! Thanks for the ask!

When it comes to prayers, I'm sure everyone does it a little differently from each other. It all depends on what you're personally comfortable with.

Some people start their prayers with something called "epithets" which are basically surnames that follow a God's name and call on a specific aspect of that God. So, if you were praying to Hermes for cheering you up, for example, you might start your prayer with "Hermes Giver of Joy" or "Hermes Kharidotes".

Personally, I start my prayers like this: "Dear Lord Hermes, it's me, Kas," then I talk about whatever it is I'm wanting to talk about. Sometimes I use epithets, but most times I don't.

You can be as casual or as formal as you want with prayers; there's no need to put pressure on yourself to conform to any on style of praying. Play around a bit with it and see what feels right to you! Maybe even mention in your prayers that you're still getting used to prayer and figuring out what's comfortable, that way, if your prayer style changes, it won't catch your deities off guard.

There is also no one way to position yourself during prayer. Personally, I like to close my eyes and put my hands out in front of me, palm up. Oftentimes, it feels like my deities will grab and even hold my hands as I pray! But you don't have to pray this way, if it's uncomfortable. You can keep your hands together, raise them towards the sky, face then towards the ground (for chthonic deities), or even hold them up to your mouth - whatever feels comfortable! You also don't have to pray aloud, if you don't want to. I personally pray aloud when I can because it feels more direct, but I pray in my head, too.

Hope this helps! Thank you for all the kind words, and I hope you take care of yourself. Best of luck to you! And feel free to ask more questions, if you're confused at all! ☺️🧡

Thanking the Theoi (in Ancient Greek)

ever since I learned how to say “thank you” in ancient greek it’s felt so much more FUN and natural to thank the Theoi. In everyday life, in prayer, etc.

From my pieced together knowledge (thank you @piristephes ):

χάριν / χᾰ́ρῐτᾰς - (trans.: KA-rihn pl.: KA-ri-tas)

“Thank you”

χάριν σοι ἔχω / χάριν ὑμῖν ἔχω - (KA-rrihn (Soy / Umin) Eh-hyo)

“I hold  (you / you all ) in thanks”

μεγάλην χάριν σοι έχω - (Meh-GA-lehn Ka-rrihn So-ih Eh-hyo)

Deity Work

DISCLAIMER

If you are prone to hallucinations, psychosis, or anything similar please make sure you are stable before trying to do deity work, or maybe reconsider doing it at all.

Deities will not and should not ask you to do harm. They will not ask you to hurt yourself, they will not ask you to hurt others. If you are experiencing this type of interaction with a deity please consult a medical or psychological professional as it may be an underlying illness.

If this has been ruled out then please cut contact with whatever is telling you to do negative things as it may not be a deity, and if it is, it is not one worth working with.

Onto the post

Deity Work

(photo credit: Andrew Seaman)

Deity work, as well as most spiritual and witchy things, is a very personal and individual practice. So anything I talk about here are suggestions and common ways I have seen deity work be done, as well as my own experiences sprinkled in.

There is no one way to work with deities, but hopefully this post will help you find a starting place so that you can move forward on your own and learn, experience, and grow with deity work as an individual.

What is Deity Work?

Essentially deity work is exactly what it sounds like, you are working with deities. It is the act of initiating and then cultivating a relationship with a deity.

Why say "Deity" and Not “God” or “Goddess”?

This is for a few reasons, at least in my mind; One, not every deity is a male or female therefore the gendered terms of God and Goddess don’t apply to them. Two, because some deities don’t fit into the transcendent idea of gods and goddesses. In many cultures the deities are more like spirits or elements, so calling them by god or goddess.

How Do You Do It?

That’s a loaded question, actually! There are so many ways you can practice working with a deity. First let’s talk about the difference between deity worship and deity work.

Deity Worship

You worship the deity, give them offerings, praise them, pray to them, but you don’t really expect responses or feedback from them. This is a great option for those who are hesitant to work directly with a deity.

Deity Work

Working with a deity is different because of the dynamic between you and your chosen deity. There is a lot more getting to know each other and relationship building involved in this. This involves speaking with the deity, which can mean speaking through ways of divination, like tarot, pendulums, runes, etc., or you can try and speak with them through meditation.

Working with Deities

First let me say that you do not need to choose one or even a few deities to work with. You can be like my sibling (and many other witches) and work with deities in a casual way.

This means that you do not work with specific deities, you work with whatever deity you need help or support from with whatever magic you’re doing.

You can also follow a specific deity (or a few specific deities) and still causally interact with other deities. Very rarely will you find a deity that bans you from speaking with other spirits and gods and such. If you do find that your deity doesn’t want you speaking to any others, ask them why. Maybe you’re not ready to speak to this other deity you had in mind, or maybe you need to set some boundaries with the deity you’re speaking to.

Regardless, always, always do research on a deity before working with them. This whole blog is about researching witchcraft and magic and asking you to do so as well. Research is key in any path in life that you decide to take. So please make sure you look into a deity before working with them.

How to tell if a Deity is Reaching Out

Honestly, if you ask yourself this, you’ll find the answer pretty quickly. Do you feel like a deity is reaching out to you? If so, then maybe they are! Of course, some of us have anxiety or imposter syndrome and think that there is no way a deity could be reaching out to us; I say this from experience.

Often the deities won’t show themselves to you right away, not many are that blunt (some are though!) but they will still try to show themself to you through other means.

If you think a deity is reaching out to you, or if you’re not sure, here are a few ways you can try to discern if it’s a deity or not.

Synchronicity, are there a lot of instances where you are faced with the same symbol or sign? Does it happen to the point of it being far too uncanny to be a coincidence?

Dreams, are you often having dreams about the same signs, animals, or objects?

Divination, are you pulling the same cards or tossing the same runes all the time?

If you said yes to any of these, check to see if it correlates to a deity.

It may also be a sign or omen from another source, if that’s the case then don’t be disheartened, it’s still something you need to know, so pay attention!

The best way that I have personally found to see if I am being contacted is to ask a form of divination in which I am the strongest at. In my case I am really connected to my tarot cards, so I will ask them. There are deity identification and communication spreads that you can find online, but be sure a deity is what you’re talking to before doing these so that things don’t get muddled.

If you want to be really sure you can try asking them to send you a specific sign. I usually ask for something uncommon but not difficult.

Example: you could ask to be sent a yellow heart three times or maybe a picture of a purple snake randomly.

How to Reach Out to a Deity

It’s ok if a deity isn’t reaching out to you and sending you signs, this could be because you hadn’t opened yourself up to the opportunity yet.

If you would like to work with a certain deity it is okay to reach out to them first. Do research on them, ask other people who work with that deity about them, see what they like, and maybe start with worship.

If you feel like you have started feeling a stronger connection, see if they are willing to work with you. You can do this by asking forms of divination like tarot cards, runes, or focused meditation; or you could ask for a specific sign as mentioned earlier.

Example: If you’re willing to work with me, please send me a (insert chosen sign here).

Contracts

You don’t need to make a contract with a deity if you don’t want to. Honestly, I don’t know of many witches that actually make a formal contract with any deity or spirit or anything of the like.

With that being said, if you would like to make a contract of some sort with the deity you interact with then please feel free to do so.

Regardless of if you do a contract or not, I suggest you let the prospective deity know of your boundaries and ask them about theirs. This goes with any relationship, really.

Altars

You don’t have to have an altar for any specific deity, or even have one at all. If you have the space, however, and you feel moved to create one then go ahead! Decorate this space with things that you have found that the deity likes, maybe they like fire so you put matches and candles on it. Perhaps they like water so you put a shell or stone you found in a river on the altar, and so on.

If you’re curious as to what I put on my altars, here are a few ideas:

Cup, bowl, or other container for liquid offerings

Candle

Incense holder

Herbs and rocks associated with the deity

Artwork you’ve created for the deity

Offerings

There are many types of offerings that you could do

Herbs, rocks, and other things from nature (make sure it’s ok to take these items if you’re gathering them from nature!)

Beverages, especially alcoholic beverages for some deities (Lugh seems to like Cider in my experience and The Morrigan like red wine)

Food

Artwork, even better if you made it yourself!

Sing or play a song that reminds you of them

Devotional act, what you do here really depends on what deity you’re devoting the act to.

Honestly if you can, ask the deity what they would like to be offered. The two I follow don’t really like receiving a lot of physical gifts, they prefer to see me get stuff done and better myself.

~~~
This is a pretty basic deity work post, so if you have anything to add please do so. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me!
When you step into sunlight, you honor Apollo. When you admire the moon, you honor Artemis. When you admire cloud shapes, you honor Hera. When you smell petrichor, you honor Zeus. When you laugh at a joke, you honor Hermes. When your body twitches to dance at a particularly upbeat music, you honor Dinoysus. When you enjoy the first bite of your breakfast, you honor Demeter. When you choose your peace over any conflict, you honor Athena. When you warm yourself up by sheltering yourself in blanket, you honor Hestia. When you listen to Ocean sounds, you honor Poseidon. When you smell flowers, you honor Persephone. When you admire the coolness of first day of Autumn, you honor Hades. When you wear your favourite jewellery, you honor Hephaestus. When you smile, you honor Aphrodite. When you exercise, you honor Ares. When you light a torch in a dark room, you honor Hekate.
Your body is a shrine to Gods, your being an act of devotion for them. You, by yourself, are enough for them.
Tips For Depressed, Chronically Ill, & Disabled Littles
Tips For Depressed, Chronically Ill, & Disabled Littles
Tips For Depressed, Chronically Ill, & Disabled Littles
tips for depressed, chronically ill, & disabled littles
it can sometimes be hard to feel little when you spend a lot of time in pain, bedridden, dealing with scary big thoughts, or any of the other things that can accompany mental or physical disabilities so these are things i do to feel small with little effort
ᯓ★ keep soft blankets + stuffies near you
literally what’s smaller than having your soft little comfort plushes with you? this is probably the easiest thing i do that always makes me feel at least a little smaller
ᯓ★ download mobile games for kids
if you aren’t someone who can get up and down off the floor or if you’re in a lot of pain, or if its just a rough day and you want to stay in bed little kid games are good for feeling tiny
ᯓ★ play baby music or soft lullabies
if you’re not feeling up to playing at all and just need to rest lullabies and nursery rhymes are rlly good for helping you rest and helping you feel tiny
ᯓ★ age regression fanfic
this might sound silly by at a little with chronic pain something that genuinely helps me is mood boards, one shots, etc. about my favorite fictional cgs
ᯓ★ think of your ‘lazy’ clothes as baby clothes
toddlers and babies are almost always dressed in comfy soft clothes so if you’re always in your soft sweatpants or cozy pjs to alleviate discomfort it’s just like little kids getting dressed in their soft little clothes
ᯓ★ middle regression is always an option
if you’re worried about regressing because you have to take care of yourself (ex. handle a walking aid, medicine, etc.) middle regression is super accessible because you can be regressed and do a lot of the things big you can already do
middle regression can also entail less rambunctious/active play (videos games, reading, coloring, etc.)
ᯓ★ audio books
if you look up ‘audio kids books’ or some form of that on youtube you can find kids stories read aloud! its something super fun that can make you feel small and you can do it anywhere at anytime.
ᯓ★ calming kids activities
there are a whole bunch of websites that have ‘calm down’ activities for when kids are winding down from rambunctious play and i use those a lot (playing with play dough, sensory toys, singing abcs/nursery rhyme games)
ᯓ★ remember not all regression looks the same
you don’t have to do anything to be small or to be valid as a regressor, regression looks different for everyone. there are ppl who regress and watch horror movies or ppl who regress while doing big kid things like going to the store or to school. your disability, no matter what form it comes in, does not invalidate your regression.
these are some of the things that i do, feel free to add more if you’re a little with disabilities, ily!!!!
