I’ve been asked to post my process since forever and I finally got around to recording it this time. I don’t think I’ll ever film myself painting because I get very self conscious doing it (it feels like someone is watching me, ew) but I was curious to see the overall process myself. This is not a step by step procedure and I’m generally speaking a very messy worker but it gets the job done lol. and ps, i won’t be answering questions regarding my art process/know-hows after this post i think it speaks for itself.

Imagine Percy meeting the Mighty Nein. Yes, there’s a trigger-happy goblin and an adorable tiefling and a woman that he should really introduce to Grog, but then he meets
- The one who made a pact he didn’t quite understand with a powerful evil entity that threatens to harm him if he doesn’t do its bidding
- The one who lost his family in one tragic night and was driven mad so now he spends his time trying to make things right
- The one who grew up with a big family until a dark magic tainted his home and now he just wants to be with his siblings again
- The one who’s smart but standoffish and her self-assured attitude isn’t doing her any favors (not to mention she wears blue and is secretly motivated by a need to prove she can exceed her father’s expectations)
“…No no no no, this won’t do. You’re all coming with me. Have you ever had snow mead? Whitestone has some of the best honey in all of Tal’Dorei. Vex’ahlia! Vex’ahlia darling, go tell the children they have four new siblings!”
A member of Züchterkreis für den Retromops- the breeding community for the retro pug in Germany- just shared some really amazing pug pictures. Retromops, or old style pugs, are an attempt to make pugs better. Retromops don’t have the same breathing problems; while they still are a brachycephalic breed, they actually DO have some muzzle, as well as better nostrils. (I’d personally like to see more nostril, but they’re still a work in progress.)
Hallmarks of the retropug include nostrils that can actually be used for breathing…
eyes that don’t pop out of the head…
enough muzzle to actually function…
and tails that aren’t a health hazard like screw tails are. In addition, retromops are tested for the gene that causes Pug Dog Encephalitis; only dogs without the gene are bred (so no carriers). But the most amazing thing to me? Seeing one of these dogs in action.

Beloved poet Mary Oliver has died at 83. Lynn Neary’s lovely remembrance is here.
And here’s her poem “When Death Comes”
When Death Comes
When death comes like the hungry bear in autumn; when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse
to buy me, and snaps the purse shut; when death comes like the measle-pox;
when death comes like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,
I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering: what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?
And therefore I look upon everything as a brotherhood and a sisterhood, and I look upon time as no more than an idea, and I consider eternity as another possibility,
and I think of each life as a flower, as common as a field daisy, and as singular,
and each name a comfortable music in the mouth, tending, as all music does, toward silence,
and each body a lion of courage, and something precious to the earth.
When it’s over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it’s over, I don’t want to wonder if I have made of my life something particular, and real. I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened, or full of argument.
I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.
She will be sorely missed
– Petra
UPDATE: I’ve addressed this several times, but rather than reply to everyone who thinks I’m disrespecting the 9th Doctor - am I also disrespecting Doctors 1-8 too? I love the 9th Doctor, as I think you’ll find from my art. I love all the Doctors, which is why I included as many notable items from each, like the 9th Doctor’s coat with a rose on it. But I was only able to include three reflections. I tried four, but it didn’t work visually as well as three. And the last three regenerations are the most logical. It’s really not that hard.
Spent several weeks on this one. I’m not typically one for a lot of details, but that’s how it unfolded. It started off on the thought: How does the Doctor deal with self-image? I wonder what goes through the Doctor’s mind when he/she sees a reflection. It can’t be the same psychological experience of self-awareness that humans feel when they see their reflection. Does (s)he recognize past selves in the same way I always see my 10 year old self in the mirror, even though I am clearly much older and rough around the edges?
These are rhetorical of course. I’m not looking for debate. It’s just a thought that started this digital painting.
