I always thought that the Gravity Falls fandom was a brilliant and awesome fandom; full of genius people who work together to make amazing AUs and figure out the secrets of Gravity Falls. Unfortunately, today, I think I was proved wrong. I, myself, enjoy just about any ship. I will happily read most pairings, and don't mind at all when the writers sway more towards a ship in each episode. I could be rooting for Billdip one second, and happily wander over to read a Dipcifica fanfiction right after. I will support Mabifica, or even Wendip. I greatly enjoy the dynamics of just about any pairing. SO when I saw the newest episode, I was pleased to see the beginning and end of Candip. It was a perfect portrayal of 12 year old children; crushes that come and go faster than the speed of light. It was good character development for both Candy and Dipper, and their friendship is closer because of it. However, this morning I decided to have a poke around the Dipcifica tag, and I was shocked to see the amount of hate being thrown around. People hating on Candy because she developed a CRUSH?? I'm sorry, but how is that unrealistic? Or a threat to your ships? It was a short plot point that was meant to show how Dipper is more understanding of other human beings, and that he is more comfortable around girls. There wasn't a single mention of Dipcifica being destroyed, nor that there is even any Dipcifica. I'll admit that ship is probably the closest to canon right now, but Alex could just as easily turn around and toss Pacifica with Mabel. WE DON'T KNOW! So everyone just needs to relax and stop hating on each other's ships; Alex will be the decider, and he'll make the right choice. He may break some hearts and sink some ships, but that's the story of fandom life.
After finally watching Amphibia I have so many thoughts, not on how each girl embodies the characteristic of their respective gem (mind, heart, strength), but how each has another characteristic as their secondary strength, and the third as their greatest weakness.
As related to the image above, it's pretty well established that:
> Heart = Anne
> Mind = Marcy
> Strength = Sasha
But their characters aren't so one-dimensional that they simply fit those archetypes. After all, each character has been amazingly well fleshed out and have complex issues of morality and beliefs that they cannot be shoehorned. I know this will get long so I'll put it under the cut.
For example, Anne is known as the Heart by virtue of being able to empathise with almost anyone; her connections with others are shown to be her greatest strength throughout the show. However, it is easy to see that her greatest weakness is Mind. Not just from an intellectual point of view as the show already delved into in contrast to Marcy, but also her ability for manipulation and long-plan conception of consequences or even planning. Any of her 'calculating' attempts at manipulating her way out of situations only succeed in instances where she understands the other person, like with the Plantar family, but fall wayside with strangers because she has yet to understand their heart.
However, Anne's been shown to be incredibly athletic and stubborn to a fault, indicating that Strength is her secondary characteristic in relation to the Calamity Box.
By understanding this, we can see that Sasha's frankly overpowering physical strength and perseverance is supported by her calculating Mind. Without her raw social intellect, Sasha would never be able to subjugate others like she so successfully does within the show. Unfortunately, her inability to empathise and understand the emotional consequences of her actions have also been explored, indicating her failings at Heart.
Lastly, Marcy is incredibly intellectually intelligent and quick to understand and learn from her mistakes, making her the easiest to place as her characteristic, which is Mind. She is also shown to be kind and excited to make friends, as well as capable of understanding others and their motivations, even if she is prone to being a bit short-sighted when it comes to getting caught up in her interests, which makes Heart her secondary. While it can be argued she was physically weak back on Earth, her captaincy and expertise with rogue-like abilities show she is strong in a physical since coming to Amphibia. So why would her weakest aspect be Strength?
Well, Marcy's instance of running away from home and her problems to a fantasy world shows her inability to stand strong against personal conflicts which she has no control over. She is capable of admitting her mistakes, yes, but she struggles to confront her problems in the first place, instead choosing to run from her parents and even continuing to try to drag the girls further into other worlds to avoid her looming future.
It's just amazing how much thought has been put into balancing these girls' characteristics; not just against each other, but also within themselves. I hope in the future these weaknesses will be explored and overcome in various ways!
So I had a lot of feelings about the bubble changing Mabel, especially after reading this and of course this awesome post here, and then I began to wonder how it would fit in TAU. Also @marypsue helped too!
————
Mabel coming out of that bubble changed and Bill made a big mistake, using her mind to fuel his apocalypse. Mabel who is chaos personified, Mabel and Dipper who thought the reality warping would stop once they were out of the bubble but it…doesn’t look like it? Eek. But then there are more important things going on to worry about; that Mabel’s eyes are still glowing white, flowers that smell of macaroni and cheese follow in her footsteps, that there’s a herd of kittencorns springing into existence just at her mention-that all can wait.
Here the Transcendence happens in the wake of Weirdmageddon, and the tear is repaired and the damage undone but nothing will ever be the same again and there is no hiding magic anymore. Here Bill still gets the shit beat out of him, still he tries to possess Dipper as he dies, still Dipper fights him and wins.
And yet as Mabel watches, Dipper’s chest falls still, stops moving. She runs to him and puts her head on his chest, but there’s no beat, no sound. He’s dead, her twin is dead and no, no no.
Mabel, eyes so bright white looking at them is like looking at the sun and encased in a bubble that swirls with a million colors. Mabel who tears reality apart, ripping into the very fabric of existence, shattering and reforming reality so that Dipper lives.
The demon thing is kind of unexpected, she admits to herself afterwards, but at least Dipper is alive, is still with them, and that’s what counts.
After pulling that stunt Mabel returns to normal, her power spent in keeping Dipper alive, in helping him transcend. Or at least, that’s what it seems.
Because Dipper can’t see any trace of power left on his sister, doesn’t see anything out of the norm in her aura, in her soul, and yet sometimes it rains when she cries and one day snadgers are just, suddenly a Thing. Like, been around for all of human knowledge, in the history and science textbooks, yes of course snakes and badgers can make snadgers just like mules, duh. He has no idea what Mabel can do or how he does it and it terrifies him a bit (if he’s not the smart guy, then who is he?)
Dipper who still possesses Mabel to do Mystery Twin cult-bashing shenanigans but he doesn’t peek into her Mindscape any more, not after the last time left him on the floor staring at the ceiling dazedly and wondering what the fucking fuck he just saw. Dipper who eons from now will have the might to destroy the world (he knows this, feels it in his bones), but he looks at his sister and knows with that same bone deep certainty that if she wanted to, Mabel could destroy it all now without a second thought. Because he is still bound by rules and deals and wards but there is nothing constraining Mabel, nothing that can hold her back other than herself. Dipper and the day he realizes he holds not just Bill’s power within him, but Mabel’s as well and then he goes and stares at the wall for a bit.
(He laughs when people call him the Lord of Chaos. He’s no ruler, only its servant and subject. Mabel, though. Mabel is the Empress of Chaos, the embodiment of madness and sheer possibility.)
Mabel doesn’t tell Henry at first because honestly, it’s almost never a big deal or issue and she isn’t sure how to explain and there’s the whole “my brother is a demon” thing and dating moves to getting married and it never comes up. Then Mabel gets pregnant and suddenly everything is going haywire. All the cartons of ice cream at the supermarket turn to pickle flavor, she cries and it rains frogs and kittens and bowties. And one day Mabel leans up to kiss Henry and burps madness bubbles in his face on complete accident oh my god. Henry gets a bubble full in the face and afterwards coughs up some fur and feathers and just Looks at Mabel. They end up on the couch, Mabel curled up in his lap, and murmuring into his shirt because she’s so scared and she fucked up and she doesn’t know where to start or how to explain and and-
Henry just gives her a gentle hug, and “It’s okay, you told me now, that’s the most important thing.” Then he looks at her stomach and asks “Um, are the babies going to do that burping thing?” and she laughs because everything is okay again.
(She makes him feel like the hero of all his favorite stories, the books where the brave adventurer stumbles into a world stranger and vaster and far more magical than their own. When they kiss sometimes his mind explodes into a riot of color and sound, madness on her lips. She’s disorder and bedlam incarnate and the kindest, sweetest woman he knew and every day he felt so privileged to be loved by one such as her.)
Dipper telling the kids bedtime stories about how Mom saved the world; he just did the cleaning up afterwards. Willow looks at her mother and Mabel in Willow’s eyes are the swirling colors of madness bubbles, a thousand flashing swirling maelstrom of color. It should hurt her eyes, hurt her brain but it doesn’t because, well, it’s Mom (and if Mabel is Chaos, then the triplets are the children of Chaos. There’s a bit of madness in all three of them.) Triplets and the shenanigans they get into because like attracts like, and weird attracts weird.
Willow still almost drowns when she’s fourteen, and Henry still becomes the Woodsman, but the difference here is that when they call Mabel, they don’t get thirty seconds into the call before there’s a feeling of plib and Mabel spilling out on the floor of the living room, the thousands of miles from Australia to Gravity Falls nothing to her will. Dipper can see the tear in reality his sister made mending itself. (He can see what would have happened if it had been him and her that rescued Willow. Sees eyes glow a cleansing, horrifying white and a pink haze rise around her. Sees her raise a hand and clench it into a fist and every soul in the room is obliterated, gone completely from the cycle of reincarnation, completely and utterly dead and gone in a way that no demon, no god, not even him can do. His sister glows and blazes before his eyes and she is utterly terrifying.)
It’s easier, in this timeline, for Henry to accept the Woodsman. How can he not, when he looks at his wife and there’s something beyond human comprehension hiding in her skin, sometimes he holds her at night and the world goes mad around him and he loses all sense of time and place and self. But she’s more than that, she’s love and sweetness and distractability and maybe there’s something a little (a lot) Wyrd about her but that’s not all of who she is, just like the Woodsman is not all of who he is. And maybe he’s not quite human any more, but neither is she, and together they make a perfect pair.
Just.
Literal Goddess of Chaos and Destruction Mabel Pines.
I made the mistake of rereading the masterpiece of 'You don't know me' by the angst master @Ferisae Decided I would draw the sweet, suffering summer child in celebration of my own pain.
Brennan, creating a series based on NY that is both a homage and a critique to the city and its symbol as The American Dream: I’m sure all my cast members who lived here are gonna love the in-jokes and history I’m referencing :))))
Siobhan, a New Yorker who is willing to dunk on the city she spent many years being real fucking poor and playing the occasional hostess to Brennan: fuck NY, fuck those fuckers in Westchester, fuck The American Dream, fuck Capitalism, I’ll come for you Brennan if you even think about romanticising the city even once god damn I hate the greed in that fucker
Everyone talks about how much Emily, Ally and Lou heckle Brennan on a daily basis, but we don’t talk enough about how it’s Siobhan immediately pick up the instigators thread and fuxking bolting. 69% of Bullying Brennan sessions are someone starting shit and the other 31% is siobhan gleefully taking the chance to roast the man who once took over a room in her shitty NY apartment that fuck
the famous ass-eating monologue??? And it’s constant repeats through the seasons?? She just wants reddit to eat Brennan’s ass like he deserves
Please don't. I don't need those mental images.

*hearing the soothing voice of tiilei say “I’m here for you”*
Me, tearing up: m-mx kaner you give me life and serotonin free of charge. I would die for you
Hey so is anyone gonna talk about the fact that most of the paladins (bar Keith with his dimensional trip on a whale) have been gone from earth for roughly 5 years, but it’s only been less than 2 for them. Their families have been mourning them for 5 whole years, imagining them dead or, more likely, imagining missing 5 years of their lives and their children returning as adults in their early 20s. Like it’s such a throwaway line when Lance sees his family, but when he tells the youngest ones that they’ve gotten so big, they respond with “you’re exactly the same”. It’s even more noticeable with the main Garrison cadets being fully grown adults trusted with being leading pilots in experimental crafts. What a shock it must have been for the Garrison to be expecting cadets like these only more hardened with experience to come home, men and women growing up in a galactic war, only to be met with the same young faces that left all those years ago. How hard would it have been to sit and discuss war council with the legendary Voltron, while looking into a fifteen year old girls face knowing you were sending her out to possibly die. I think about it a lot. And it’s horrifying. The next question is: who is gonna write the fic where the garrison is trying to prepare for the final battle, and has to simultaneously wrap their heads around the fact that they are sending kids to fight their war? The higher ups will dismiss them despite their reputation because they see them laughing and goofing off in spare time, only to confront them with reprimands to reveal that the paladins, particularly Lance, joke to stay positive in the face of the horrors they’ve met. (And it’s obvious that these kids may be young but they have gone through more than anyone can comprehend, as Pidge offers a plan based on the horrific night of going solo against Sendak in the Castle of Lions, or Hunk absently mentioning the hallucinations they experienced prior to earth via a monstorous being and how he was going to sacrifice himself, or even Lance letting slip that he LITERALLY DIED. What can you say to these horrors?)
Izuku: This poor boy is so head over heels for boys and girls it's almost ridiculous. To him it's terrifying to talk to girls cause they're just so...,,,.nice? So sweet and pretty and it's so intimidating to look them in the eyes when they smile like that!! He has it easier with boys as the few friends he had when he was younger were guys, and thus he at least knows how to kind of talk to them. But guys are just so cool??? They are so strong and leave him flabbergasted and flustered every time they say something nice to him. Just save this bi boy before he has a heart attack. Uraraka: Hell yeah this girl will date any gender. She has a preference for girls as they're adorable and she loves holding soft hands and playing with long hair, but she also loves m a n l y s t u f f. She love them all and she loves that she does. Iida: The boy isn't too interested in relationships in all truth. He has some people that he has crushes on, but in truth while he may find girls and boys attractive, he's pretty sure he's asexual and is perfectly happy with that. It doesn't mean he doesn't want a relationship, but he has no desire to engage in intimate physical stuff. Todoroki: This boy is..,..,.so gay?? Like the thought of females rarely crosses his mind he's that gay. He never really questioned his preferences due to his repressing childhood, but he may or may not have a gay awakening at some point (I don't make the rules but Izuku fucking shook Todoroki to his core and the boy was so impressed by this intense and crazy boy that he just went......'oh no he's too hot') Bakugou: He will deny liking anyone. He fucking hates people why would ever have a crush that's dumb you're dumb. But seriously this boy is demi as hell because it takes a lot of effort for him to even tolerate a person, and that's only partially because he has no feelings except anger in general. Good luck with this one if he ever does like you. Kirishima: Only the MANLIEST of men can like both genders. Honestly everyone had him penned as gay as anything because of how much he rants about loving manly things, but he does like girls, they're so soft but so strong to him, but he just prefers guys. Cause. You know. They're so MANLY. Kaminari: This smooth criminal is pan and will crack every joke under the sun just to remind you. He's more lowkey about being poly, but he just has so much love that it can't be contained to just one person according to him. People are just so cool and hot and he loves so many people God give this boy some love. Ashido: She comes off straight when you first meet her due to her insistent flirting, but that's just her personality. She, in fact, loves girls. Would die for girls. They're amazing and she's so in love. Sero: He is the token heterosexual of his friend group he swears. He deals with so much gay on his life and he's just happy to sit there and be straight as fuck. Let him rest please. Tsuyu: She gay. A happy gay frog. She loves all types of girls and she will tell anyone who listens straight up. She's so gay please love the smol gay frog. Jirou: Honestly prefers girls, but she's been known to date some guys here and there. Honesty announced her presence in each room with "here, queer and ready to leer" with the most deadpan face. Momo: If you can get it out of the shy lass she'll tell you that she loves girls, but she's still uncertain as to what extend that love is. Thinks she might be on the ace spectrum. Still questioning the sweet girl. Kouda: The good boy is aromantic. He's happy with his friendships and desires nothing more. Aoyama: He's the flamboyant gay and proud of it. Could you not tell by looking at him? Ojiro: A calm heterosexual in a sea of crazy gay. Happily hetero. Hagakure: Another heterosexual who delights in the chaotic gayness of her classmates. Tries to set everyone up and thrives on the drama. Shouji: Real quiet when comes to talks about sexuality, but eventually reveals his demisexuality directed only to boys. He's not a huge fusser of sexuality honestly. Tokoyami: A gay birb. He loves the boys. Strong boys especially. He so loves boys. Satou: Yet another heterosexual who shakes his head at the crazy gay shenanigans around him. He supports his friends tho and loves to help set them up with their preferred gender. Mineta: His crusty ass is straight how could you not know this by now???
Everyone in Orario: “You can’t associate with people of other familias, let alone be friends! That just isn’t how familias work, you’re going to start wars!”
*Bell, 14 years old and a oblivious dumbass, grabbing Lilli, Welf, Mikoto and Sanjono* “I’m going to make these people part of my familia now try and stop me :)))))”
