Something that really bothers me is that there are people who, to defend Gwen i guess, exaggerate or even lie with super ugly things that have nothing to do with what we are talking about. Lately I've read every crazy thing that makes me say: Bro, tf you talking about, you're already going a bit too far, this is not a saga for adults, this is not Deadpool, or Peacemaker, or Joker, etc, it doesn't make sense saying unlikeable things that are false about Gwen's story, seriously, we have to take care in what we write, and what we publish.
Sleep paralysis, a unimaginable pressure in his shoulders, schizophrenia (dude...), anxiety and panic attacks (if I don't forget something else), i think Miles said: "Ok i'm going to brake the record as the most dark and tragic character in the entire saga" 💀💀💀
I'm sure in that part she said in a affectionate way or jokingly (Otherwise that wouldn't be very healthy for their relationship tbh) because when Miles talks about his maturity beyond the age he is during the tower scene watch, she laughs and keeps telling him how lovely it is to be with him. For the rest of the movie, he treats him in a normal way.
Gwen said "I used to play with these when I was younger, too" like she was 15 years older than Miles, not 15 months 😂
Not only is there everything that he had to go through in ITSV (Horrible things and feelings that accumulated and that yes or yes they are going to explode in BTSV and they are going to blame their friends), but he had a lonely life for a year and a half, with anxieties and panic attacks, wanting to dedicate his entire future to seeing his friends again, only to feel stabbed in the back by them and feeling painfully betrayed.
And I really can't imagine what Miles's head is like inside after ATSV and in BTSV, the amount of traumas (Some that come from ITSV) and serious psychological problems he's going to have because of his friends that he didn't even care about when they met him except for Gwen. If you think about it, this trilogy is the story of a wonderful boy, who has no malice whatsoever, who never did anything wrong, who never hurt anyone, and even so, he ended up completely broken by things that He was getting out of hand and now he has no problem seeing his friends as his enemies and confronting them.
And as if that weren't tragic enough, after that, literally his entire WORLD, the thing that gave his life SENSE, collapsed, fell apart, in just a few minutes because of a lunatic who doesn't want anyone in the multiverse is happy just because he couldn't be.
Peter popsicle 💔
You can tell she's like, "SHOOT, I think she already figured me out."
Gwen's face after Rio said "don't take him from me" is killing me cuz she looks like she's thinking about doing just that like she's saying "look I can't promise anything, Rio, if I decide to steal your son I will. I'm pretty sure he's already mine"
Because when Gwen was actively forced into homelessness in front of him, he literally didn't help at all. And then it gets framed on JESS.
Gwen asks for help. And Peter says this:
Jess asks him to stop talking.
And from this moment forward, Peter makes no effort whatsoever to help Gwen.
Mind you. This is AFTER Miles' escape. After the whole 'shocked Peter' gif. Peter knows Miguel is willing to get violent.
But that line is his only attempt to help.
Even as he watches Gwen be fully restrained and physically forced into the machine. He stands there and watches.
He doesn't try to web her. He doesn't try to stop the machine or talk to Miguel. He stands there in silence. Watching Gwen get sent home to a universe he knows she is homeless in.
And the movie just lets him. Despite the fact he's known Gwen longer than anybody in this room.
Instead, Jess is the only mentor at fault. We're told to blame her.
During this scene we never pan to Peter, standing there literally motionless as Gwen gets dragged away. He's not panicking, or trying to talk Miguel out of it. We're just expected to absolve him of blame.
It's Jess' fault. Jess is her 'failed mentor' - despite the fact that Peter has known Gwen longer, is shown to have a better relationship with her, and we're given no reason as to why he wasn't her mentor to begin with.
Jess says this, and we're supposed to judge her for it. While Peter said nothing at all. At most he made a joke and then shut up when he was told.
Jess might've believed she couldn't help Gwen - but what was Peter's excuse? Standing there and watching this happen? He doesn't feel the need to do anything, say anything, or even leave the room.
For him, watching this is fine. And Gwen NEVER confronts him about it.
We're not supposed to blame Peter for letting Miles and Gwen down, repeatedly.
Even when Gwen is being physically forced into homelessness in front of him.
We're told to blame the black woman when the white man who has known Gwen longer literally stands beside Jess motionless.
He watched her get sent home, said nothing, then went home to his wife and kid to ponder whether or not he was a bad mentor.
Not if Gwen was okay. Or whether he should go check on her????
That's NOT OKAY???!!!! THAT'S TERRIBLE!!!!!!! And this is the man we're supposed to be routing for? This, the dude who shows NO signs he was even gonna go and check on Gwen? The dude who lets child abuse go down in front of him TWICE and he just stands there blinking? That's our Peter Parker?
And I'm supposed to be thrilled to have him on the team??? Despite the fact Gwen had to come TO HIM. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND???? Gwen doesn't see a problem with that?????
I'm supposed to be happy he's here? Forreal???
Oh joy. Thank you so much, Humbling Reality Spider-man. We love you.
I hate Peter B. ALL MY HOBIES HATE PETER B. (Not a typo)
It's interesting but let's keep in mind that the phrase "Death loves Gwen Stacy doesn't exist in the movies due to the fact that they completely replaced that phrase with "In every other universe Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man and that doesn't end well", implying that they separate and/or take different paths (Examples: Spectacular, Raimi saga, 90's series, etc. ) and in very specific cases Gwen dies (Like in TASM2), besides, we are talking about a different Spider-Gwen than the comic versión and that comics phrase it is something too heavy for a movie which isn't for adults like it's in the comics most of the time.
Still, it is highly unlikely that Gwen was affected by seeing multiple Peters in Spider-Society since she wasn't affected at all knowing Peter B in the first film. The canon event that appears there is likely to have been the case, but until now the name "Ghost Spider" has never been used or made a single reference. So, in the Spider-Verse movies, Gwen's canon hero name is "Spider-Woman", for now.
I honestly think Gwen Stacy has one of the coolest spider names, being ghost spider because it has so much meaning behind it in both the comics and the movie. Even though she hasn't been called ghost spider yet in the movies.
Something that is said a lot in the comics is that "death loves Gwen Stacy" because in most universes she is dead or loses everything. This also appears to be true in spider verse. The reason I love the name ghost spider is because it was her embracing that, a way of honoring the other gwens who's graves she visits, because to most other peters she is a ghost to them. Imagine her showing up to the spider society and seeing hundreds of people with your dead best friends face, only to realize that dispite him being the ghost back home it is really you who's the ghost it's you who was dead in most other universes.
Another really cool thing that also adds to the ghost spider names actually was shown in spider verse, when looking at the Canon events every one is looking at something different, Peter B looking at his wedding, Hobie looking at himself giving up on being spiderman, Jess looking at her freeing herself from the ruble, but gwens was different, the Canon event shown for Gwen was kravens last hunt.
The image shown is a picture from the kravens last hunt redrawn from the comics from Gwen instead of Peter because this hasn't happened in gwens comics. In kravens last hunt kraven shoots and burys spiderman, they were buried for 2 weeks before digging themselves out of their grave. The image is of Gwen digging herself out of her grave and since it's the same suit from the first movie it means it's already happened. I think it's kinda symbolic that she digs herself from her grave, given the theme of the spider verse movies is changing your fate. Gwen being afraid to fall in love because she knows she will die if she does, they could change it together proving Canon events wrong.
I still remember that when I went to see ITSV in January 2019, in the scene where Gwen and Miles say goodbye, the whole theatre got more excited than usual and they started to encourage them to kiss saying "KISS, KISS, KISS" 😭🫶
I WANT TO SCREAM. FINALLY GOT ITSV ARTBOOK AND I JUST DYING FROM HOW GORGEOUS IT IS.
I can't stop flipping through pages and just adore every word and artwork in it 😭❤️🔥
