She literally said: “H E. I S. M I N E.”
The One and Only Spider-Man and Sonic being compared by people for being alike? YES. ALWAYS PLEASE.
live and learn
Lately I have read and heard that "Gwen has depression in ATSV just like Peter B in ITSV" and while I understand that she went through a bad period of loneliness, sadness and, yes, frustration, after Peter's death (And in fact, the colors of her universe represent that, at least until the events of ITSV and her arrival in Spider-Society), to say that she went through something very delicate and heavy such as depression is pretty exaggerated.
Not only it's the fact that she was able to turn the page from that bad period with the arrival of Miles and her insersion into the Spider-Society, but that, taking into account that something like that was rudely seen with Peter B in ITSV, the creators had no intention of implying something like that, even more so considering that this film was not even rated PG-13
Besides, this is linked to something that the film wants to demystify, and that is that not everything is black or white, but there are grays, the intermediate points such as Gwen's internal struggle of whether to side with Miles or Miguel, when that was something in between. Same with the "Gwen betrayed Miles" phrase. Saying that "she betrayed him" are big words, since some people, instead of reaching an long but reasonable conclusion appropriate to the situation, prefer to reach a short but extreme and, of course, harsh conclusion.
However, the theme of the color palette representing her internal struggles linked to she missing Miles and the Peter thing is something that can only be applicable until the end of the ATSV prologue, since when she sees her father again after several months, the context is different in that case (Except by the Miles thing)
And through what she says on her date with Miles, when she joined the Spider-Society she was able to start a new stage in her life, being much better and much more happy than the previous stage (Even though she avoided her problems), and that would not have been possible if it had not been for her new and old friendships, her mentor, and of course, none of that would have been possible if it weren't for Miles, otherwise, his development in the first film and in this film would have lost weight and relevance.
I also take this opportunity to complain about the fact that the use of said word has been normalized to the point that it is called "having depression" with feeling bad or going through a bad stage, obviously temporary and that would eventually be reversed, which was precisely the case of Gwen entering the spider society and reversing that.
In conclusion, no, I don't think she suffered from anything like that even during the prologue, mainly because she, unlike other characters, is a very strong girl who, no matter what, gets up and keeps going, and she always finds motivation for this (Miles, her friends, her dad).
Well, a storyboard has just been published where Gwen, at the beginning of ATSV, was going to see Miles' image, while she changed into her Peter at times, and I honestly don't know what the hell to think about this.
I mean, the first thing that crossed my mind is that, for Gwen, in this version of the storyboard, Miles is nothing more than a replacement for her Peter (Which in itself is contradictory because it is not known if Gwen even liked a little Peter), and if that were not enough, there was also the "Miguel calling" scene of the building where Gwen and Miles were originally going to say goodbye before he followed her to Pav's universe in a totally bitter way (And not exactly because of Miles).
Look, I trust that Lord and Miller are going to give us the most satisfying ending to the relationship between Gwen and Miles, but seeing as they have TOO MUCH to resolve in Beyond The Spider-Verse, along with this that was published, the thing in the next movie can turn out excellently well, or terribly badly, since they have to be very careful not to give the wrong message.
For example, I am one of those who thinks that in the BTSV epilogue, do not have Gwen go with Miles to her prom wearing the same outfit and at the same school, precisely for the same reason I just said. They can be much more creative and original than that, they can make them, for example, do a concert, or be at a meeting on the roof of Miles' house, etc.
Anyway, I want to know what you think, I really didn't like this and like the storyboard of "Miguel calling", it made me wonder what in the earth they were thinking when they did that scene.
You know, i've been thinking about something, "Why does Gwen have such a drastic personality change in ATSV?" 🤔
I mean, it is known that in ITSV the super cool personality that we see there is just a mask, and in ATSV she reveals her true personality.
We see a very akward, pathetic gwen and in her cringefail era (I love her sm), i mean yea, Miles was the cause of this, obviously, but what pushed Gwen to expose this? What pushed Gwen to take off that "super cool girl" mask and show her true personality in all that year and exposing all her flaws?
This.
Yes, the therapy is the most likely option for this change to happen.
Remember when in the ATSV prologue one of the girls in Gwen's band told her that if she didn't talk about her problems with someone she was going to explode? I'm pretty sure she took that advice and, taking advantage of the fact that there was a therapy office at the Spider-Society, she took a lot of sessions to get better, in addition to the help she received from her friends, of course.
I'm pretty sure that they didn't put on the therapy gag just to make a "funny" scene tbh.
We have to talk seriously about this because it reminds me a lot of Gordon Freeman being seen by the Half-Life fandom for many years as a mega badass character when he was always someone very different from that, when he was always a very traumatized man with much more depth.
Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, WE ALL NEED BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE, dude, if ATSV was perfect and revolutionary in every way, imagine how the last film in the trilogy will be.
Basically that E-42 Ganke is literally Nine while in that same universe there is Miles G/The Prowler being literally Shadow The Hedgehog and Miles Morales/Spider-Man on the other hand being literally Sonic The Hedgehog traveling between dimensions like in prime?
Thinking thoughts again guys.
Thinking about Ganke (42)
More SPECIFICALLY thinking about Ganke as Doc Oct. Or at least, a variant.
I MEAN COME ON!!! TRYING TO GET ACROSS DIMENSIONS?? STUDYING THAT SHIT? That may be more of a 1610 Miles thing but I like to think that both Ganke"s are REALLY interested in it too. Or at least 42 is.
I feel like with the way their world is too, 42 Ganke is more likely to get a position at Alchemax. At the very LEAST for their science and tech and ease of access to stuff for his own projects.
But like. Come on. Look at him.
I just wanted to show that picture...
Assuming we know nothing(or little) about this Ganke's parents, is it too daring to think that, perhamps, his mother is Doc Oct? Or father, if we're being different. Just A PARENT in general?
And maybe I just like projecting onto them, but also maybe like... do you see what I'm getting at. Her ass probably hates kids. And isn't easily impressed. So imagine having a kid you probably don't even want (for science? Maybe.... more angst potential..) and he grows up absolutely DESPERATE to please you and get told that you're proud of him and that he's enough. And then he gets to an age where he no longer has to rely on you (or other people, her ass did nothing to raise him), and he starts thinking for himself, and since you're all bad and evil and stuff you realize something.
This whole entire time, the past thirteen long, dreadful years of your life, you haven't been using your full potential.
You have a pawn right at your fingertips.
A young mind full of turmoil and the overwhelming need to please you.
Someone who can be easily molded.
Manipulated.
Shaped.
Formed.
You have a tool.
Just sitting on the couch right in front of you. An entire person of just wasted potential. One who was sat on his ass for his entire life and done nothing (in her opinion)
And if you're all evil and bad, what are you gonna do with that information?
You're going to use it.
"Hey son I know I haven't really talked to you since your birthday three years ago but how would you like an opportunity to get close to the very grand and very loving mother that I suddenly am?"
He's going to say yes. That's like giving a mouse a cookie.
The chance to be with his mom some more? To finally get the chance to prove to her that he is worth loving? The answer might as well be a flashing neon green sign. Capital letters. Y-E-S. Because why wouldn't he
So she starts training him, in small ways at first, going easy on him since he's still just a boy, really, but gradually working him up with harder and harder tasks and missions until he's finally earned himself a pair of his own robotic octopus arms (that he had to engineer and build himself)
And FINALLY for ONCE in his fucking LIFE he is making his mom PROUD OF HIM. He finally gets the love, the praise, the appreciation he's craved ever since he was a toddler.
Ooh, and he's doing such a good job hacking into top secret shit and files and such a good job stealing and doing his mother's dirty work and-- what's this?
There's this new kid on the block.
Apparently, the old Prowler's retired. His alliance fell through. And the new Prowler? His loyalty has completely flipped. Motives, too.
Instead of aiding them in raids and taking out enemies, he's now actively ATTACKING them and foiling their missions.
Instead of being a villain like the rest of them, he's suddenly trying to get RID of the villains?
The fuck is this guy's problem.
Who does he think he IS suddenly poking his nose into shit he DOESNT belong in?? SCREWING UP GANKE'S CHANCE WITH HIS MOM!!! The chance he's been waiting SIXTEEN YEARS FOR! Oh, he's pissed.
He overhears hears his mom talking at a meeting about a plan to try and lure and trap this kid to get him off their asses (he's a master at sneaking and eavesdropping at this point.. even just to hear his mother's voice and think up ways he can make her like him) and he decided that this is his moment. His calling. His purpose.
That very night, he decides to make the Prowler (junior, as they're calling him) his very own personal mortal enemy.
But little does he know
The guy he's constantly trying to kill every night?
His roommate.
Yeah, The Prowler Junior(™️) is his high school roommate and (soon to be) certified best friend.
Blah blah blah they fight all the time oh but now they're chill and- I just blinked why are you guys kissing and holy hell your mother found out and tells you that you don't deserve your last name and will never live up to your potential (which, she claims she knew this, which is why she gave him his father's last name and not her own. Lee.) and you're fighting with Miles again and yet oh God now you've been disowned and have to go to him for help Oh No That's Bad What.
:3
Do you see the appeal. I need to draw him. And make more of this AU. What should I call it? I'll be thinking.. also open to suggestions I'm Bad at naming stuff......
OKAY BYE
It is literally the best way to show that for Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales is not only someone PERFECT, UNIQUE and INCOMPARABLE, but that he is without a doubt THE LOVE OF HER LIFE.
In a society full of Peters...
She's a Miles<3
They are the best of friends.
